Didn't they do a spin off show with Phil when he was young to do with a robbery with Billy as well quite recently

They did a spin off Mitchel flash back a while ago. That was because of Keeble and her getting revenge for her dad dying.

I found it a very uncomfortable watch, but it was fantastic acting from Phil and I felt for him, whereas I think from the outside, from the point of view of the other characters, it's very difficult to have sympathy for him because he is so unresponsive and angry. I also watched the first episode, 40 years ago and remember thinking then how kind of 'gritty' it was compared to any other soaps on the television at the time.

I'm another old codger one who has grown up with Ian and Sharon. I'm really loving the reminiscing and the brief (very in some cases) cameos by the old cast.
I really thought last night was very well done. It makes Phils depression/psychosis more understandable.

I was thinking of the man in the game show that they showed in The Vic. I watched for a few years back when Peggy ran the Vic but I have no idea who that guy was.

Me too actually! In fact I must have been younger because my mum caught me acting out a scene with my soft toys where one wasn't sure which of two men was the father of her baby 😳

Bianca storyline is bonkers even by Eastenders standards. So she's been held captive for about 3 months without managing to break free but suddenly manages it in the nick of time to come and whack Reiss over the head...

Great acting from Steve McFadden though it's taken him about 25 years to show us what he can do.

Denise and Ravi is just boring now. No way would they be a couple. Nice to see Chelsea standing up to her mum and pointing out she's hooking up with a murderer again!

I feel they just wanted the ' jump scare' of Bianca turning up to hit him
Which was ridiculous really considering she has been holed up for months

Another old-timer here who’s looking forward to the 40th Anniversary week.
Thought the scene with Phil and Jay was brilliant. Talking about all the things he’s done to destroy his body but it was Lola who died. Jay is so nice but I wish he’d have kissed Phil before he left. Aaah lovely Nigel bringing Grant to see if he can help him. Xx

It really was. It showed how he truly knows himself

I know that Jay was there , but he became irrelevant as Phil led us into his thoughts.
Whoever wrote that script was very good but it was the delivery that set me off. It was so well done.
Phil isn't always nice or pleasant , but he has to be one of soaps more interesting characters and has many shades of good and bad.

Indeed. I’d like to know why he’s giving his assets away. Do you think it’s because he doesn’t think he’s good enough or doesn’t deserve them or just wants to distance himself from being anything like his father

The bit they showed on the roof : I did wonder if he is thinking of ending it all?
Maybe he'll become a better person ?
Maybe grant will take him away for a while to rest up ? Or just be left open ended ?

I don’t think Ross Kemp will stay long. Maybe Grant will take Phil back to Portugal with him?
