Had to google Martin

i had forgotten he was a bad urn. I remember his killing Jamie who was Sonja bf at the time

When Pauline announced that she was pregnant, this infuriated her mother, Lou Beale, as she felt that Arthur and Pauline already had enough children (Mark and Martin's older sister, Michelle) and since Arthur was constantly unemployed, how were they going to support another child?

The troublemaking Lou ordered Pauline to have an abortion, give the baby up for adoption, or the family would be evicted. The eviction threat was a often go-to tactic that Lou would throw at her daughter, in order for her to get her own way. However, this time, the defiant Pauline stood her ground and Martin was born.

Lou, despite her continual bluster and her token disapproval, was secretly pleased, because she saw the new baby as another Fowler she could boss around. What made it easier for her was she won over by a family trip to Clacton with Michelle, and she was then even MORE won over when they christened him, Martin Albert Fowler. The Albert comes from his maternal grandfather, Albert Beale.

At first Martin's life was like any other ordinary kid, except he was in the middle of rows between his folks, especially after his father was caught in an adulterous affair with alcoholic divorcee, Christine Hewitt.
As a result of said affair, Pauline banned Arthur from seeing Martin, (besides slamming him in the head with a frying pan!) but they would reconcile.

His life would take a terrible turn for the worse though, when his father died when he was ten, due to an injury he suffered while he was in prison. He would get hooked up with a gang from his school and he would become quite the tearaway.

He would commit vandalism, petty theft and burglaries, which led him to being arrested. He would later be put under the supervision of a social worker.

His life of crime would come to a screeching end after the death of Jamie Mitchell, whom he ran down with a car. He then had sex with Sonia Jackson and she would give birth to their daughter, Chloe, now known as Bex.

I stand corrected then I thought Vicky was older!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/02/2025 11:27

Martin would be involved in a harrowing disaster when a double-decker bus would crash into the viaduct, and would be wedged, which would damage the street market and injure Martin

Tho wasn’t martin fine the next Episode 😂

I think James Alexandrou played a young Martin well. James Bye plays the older Martin well.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/02/2025 11:56

Yes. New head martin has been in it for 10/11yrs

He was oddly fine the next episode!

It was a bit like Phil's 2 weeks crack habit.

excelledyourself · 18/02/2025 13:20

I want to know who Phil's four letters were for, since he's got kids coming out of his ears.

It did make me teary when he told Linda he was proud of her.

Well, four kids. But I'd have expected him to write at least write to Lexi too, as well as maybe Sharon.

Cattery · 18/02/2025 13:27

I found the episode a bit messy. Why did Cindy have to make the day of the wedding all about her? Why do those closest to him keep saying Phil is fine when we can see he clearly isn’t. Why did he order the pint and take one sip? Completely unrealistic. Loved Priya in the cafe though. Good for her. No idea who hit Cindy over the head but it’s getting boring now

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 18/02/2025 13:38

Why did Sharon give Honey her last letter from her mother Angie? Sharon and Honey have no connection at all so to suddenly give her/lend her something so personal and precious was quite ridiculous, they barely say hello to each other.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 18/02/2025 13:41

Talking of Sharon, did her and Ian ever become friends again after she tried to kill him? I don’t think I’ve seen them together since and considering they are originals it jars that they are not reminiscing considering it’s the 40th anniversary. It really annoyed me that the scriptwriters destroyed that relationship.

Cattery · 18/02/2025 13:48

Yes they go way back but as if Sharon would’ve married him in the first place. The letter from Angie read by Sharon to Honey was bizarre. It was almost like they had to shoehorn Angie in but messed it up. A flashback would’ve been better. I’ve got a feeling they’re going to get this 40 Anniversary week all wrong by trying too hard. It’s all disjointed and who cares about Honey and Billy’s wedding. They’ve been married before ffs.

Redcrayons · 18/02/2025 14:01

The letter from Angie was very odd. Wouldn’t it be one of her most treasured items? And it was about how to get over being dumped. Why would it mean anything to Honey, she never met her?

Really enjoyed the 40th documentary. Forgot how much of a crush I had on Grant back in the day.

Cattery · 18/02/2025 14:08

It wouldn’t have meant anything to Honey. It was a stupid waste of air time. It was a complete irrelevancy

Then we had Linda passing comment on 'Angie Watts'

That seemed odd and downright rude.

gingercat02 · 18/02/2025 14:22

I think Phil was going to have a last pint before he killed himself but was interrupted by the 3 musketeers (Shaz, Grant and Nige)

The two women didn’t even know each other!!

It was the 'borrowed' item though, so presumably meant to be given back 🤞😄

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2025 15:59

The likes of Honey and Linda have probably heard a lot about the previous owners of the Vic and Honey has been in the soap a long time now. Sharon has been there since the start , so they have also heard the gossip from her over the years too. They get a pass from me for being sentimental this week though ! They are forty

AlteredStater · 18/02/2025 16:38

I'm wondering whether it's Kathy holding the locket, possibly not because she is guilty but because she's worried Ian did it and was looking for it herself.

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2025 16:41

I'm convinced that Peter was looking for the locket and said it was for photos instead
