Anybody watching? I have questions!

  • Why are they so cool about Liv getting married, she can't be older than 20?
  • Surely her brother would have come back for the wedding?
  • When Rose said she was missing 'the girls' I thought she meant children, but it sounds like they haven't had any yet?

I didn’t mind it as a bit of escapism, but it was all rather predictable and schmaltzy.

And another here who has missed the reasons why Hannah is so irresistible to men. I’m all for championing older women & not fixating on perfect bodies or physical beauty - but c’mon there needs to be SOMETHING that’s making these men so obsessed with her??

With Christie she was the one that got away. He loved her when they were hormonal students - perhaps not a first love but the first deep love and I don't think that ever goes.
Nathan was her husband for decades. That love doesn't just vanish immediately either.
And Archie and Hannah are both super successful lawyers in their 50s, in decent nick, enjoying fun flirty dates. They're a good and very balanced match.
I don't think it's particularly surprising that these three men would all be into her.

Fofftwenty21 · 30/12/2024 22:33

I thought it was weird that no-one had a problem with Gael just taking off like that the day he was supposed to be getting married.

I agree the last scene would have been better if Hannah had spoken about her emotional vulnerability as opposed to physical.

This is the photo of Hannah in her dress. I don’t think they are the same now I look again.

I agree, I’m not sure it’s the same as hers isn’t sparkly…. Thankyou tho x

rockingbird · 30/12/2024 23:01

I loved it, so good to see them all again and had a little 🥹

VaddaABeetch · 30/12/2024 23:10

Escapism but the men in that are not like the men I know. Written from a romantic woman’s pint of view

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2024 23:14

Was so shit

So was the last series though. The cases were the interesting part, not this naval gazing bunch of twats

Nicola Walker is wasted on this shit.

Where were the facilities on the beach 😂

That's what I kept thinking! They've been there for hours, but where's the toilets 🤣

MabelMora · 30/12/2024 23:36

My thoughts: Nathan is such a bloody drip! Can't stand him. Valentina was fabulous - could understand men falling at her feet.
Ruth's arch, overdramatic delivery of the simplest of lines drives me potty and Toby Stephens is the double of his mother.
And yes, Nicola Walker is the same in every role. Liked her best in Last Tango in Halifax and the men there are all obsessed with her as well.

PeachyKeane · 30/12/2024 23:36

That rock Gael was sitting on supposedly all night and day gazing into the water is the most uncomfortable type of rock known to man. It's impossible to sit on without a wad of towels.....

Well, you go behind a bush or in a bucket obviously 😉

Supergirl1958 · 31/12/2024 00:11

caught up after being out. Yet again, we are left thinking of Hannah wouldn’t have cheated with Christie it would have meant her staying with Nate. Honestly feel sad they arent a thing. They worked really well together for liv! I cried when he told her ‘you aren’t my someone anymore’.

also I thought overall a good watch!

WGACA · 31/12/2024 00:33

The empty beach was extremely unrealistic. I agree about them all being navel gazers and all the girly giggling and hugs was irritating. It was ok but the actual series have been so much better.

I was saving this as a guilty pleasure for when DH goes back to work. Reading the comments here though has put me off and I'm not sure I'm going to bother now.

A lone voice here. I really liked it.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 31/12/2024 06:28

It was escapism for me. I’d have loved Hannah and Nathan to get back together. He clearly still loves her. Talking about when they got Married at the table, it was his marriage to her, not Kate he spoke about. I can see her with Archie. Valentina 🥰🥰🥰 great character.

kerstina · 31/12/2024 07:50

The bit where he was saying that about not being each others person anymore really got to me too . It was the only scene that felt really genuine and emotional . Why I used to like the few episodes of the split that I saw .Most of these two episodes made me cringe I am afraid.

suburburban · 31/12/2024 07:57

@martha4clark

Sea wee perhaps or a cave

Would worry after the paella and all the drinks

suburburban · 31/12/2024 07:59

Also Hannah's son was missing. May have been another daughter as well

Liv would want her sibling there

Bixterret · 31/12/2024 08:00

Yes there were 2 daughters and a son. The younger siblings were travelling, in Thailand. It was mentioned.

BeethovenNinth · 31/12/2024 08:15

It was good fun. It felt rushed and so there wasn’t the time for the more gentle moments that made the main series IMHO

also loathed the physical worries of Hannah at the end - we haven’t seen that in her before!

enjoyed the nonsense and laughs and it’s so well cast. Stephen Mangan is always my favourite. More of him please!

AreYouShittingMe · 31/12/2024 08:22

I enjoyed it, despite its silliness and plot holes. Hannah had two people she fell for when she was a student, and after years of being married to Nathan, Christie came back as I imagine she had lots of 'what ifs...' about choosing Nathan.
We've ways known family is very important to Hannah, and it was lovely to see here. It was a better story IMHO that she met someone new, who also values family, rather than end up back with Nathan. Her and Nathen will always have their family and shared life, which came across well in the programme. Although it was hard to gauge if Nathan was genuinely happy with his new family. Loved the 'I'm not your person anymore speech' and Hannah's vulnerability at the end.
Good between Christmas and New Year non- taxing viewing (but I would be less impressed at a different time of year 😆)

MissyB1 · 31/12/2024 08:23

Cora was there at the airport when they first arrived, I’m certain there was a pushchair! Then she disappeared!

As for the sudden lesbian session, that felt like ridiculous box ticking.

Didn’t envy the sound of Nathan’s life now, two kids under two at his age?! 😱 No wonder he fancies going back to his old life!

lolly792 · 31/12/2024 09:20

Nowhere near as good as the actual series. It just didn't work without all the legal cases, and the time to build more nuanced relationships and scenarios.

I agree with pp that men flocking around Hannah didn't ring true at all. She's always scowling, ruminating on something and generally just unhappy! I also think the Rose/ vicar relationship is unrealistic. She's so unpleasant and disrespectful to him, dismissive of his faith and his whole job it seems; also she's very much portrayed as a bit of a ditzy airhead without the intellectual and professional calibre of her sisters, whereas the vicar has a brain. Of the sisters, I actually found Nina's situation the most convincing. She totally would hook up with a multi millionaire; she's also had a series of totally unsuitable liaisons in the past (an affair with the boss's partner etc) Also I think something came up in the earlier series about her having flings with women as well as men. Ruth and Ronnie make a convincing couple too I think.

Overall, an easy watch but lots of ridiculous plot holes and silliness

Normalrulesdontapply · 31/12/2024 11:19

A very easy watch for a cold rainy day. I thought it was like a strange ‘The Split’ version of Mama Mia 🤣

MabelMora · 31/12/2024 12:31

I don't know why Hannah was so worried about Archie seeing her in the buff when she'd shagged Christie senseless not that long ago and he was a God amongst men.

He so was, anyone got his address? I'm the same age as Hannah and honestly could not give a shit about what men my age think about my body 🙃
