Anybody watching? I have questions!

  • Why are they so cool about Liv getting married, she can't be older than 20?
  • Surely her brother would have come back for the wedding?
  • When Rose said she was missing 'the girls' I thought she meant children, but it sounds like they haven't had any yet?

Anyone know where the outfit or similar is from

marshmallowbum · 05/01/2025 20:29

Do you think they will make another series?

Can anyone tell me where Valentino’s beautiful burnt orange outfit is from or anything similar x thanks

It’s lovely, isn’t it.

Edited to add that the details are further down the photo.

Thought this was awful … so so cringe in so many places they should’ve billed it as a feature-length special (90 minutes) and cut a third of the content because there were so many pointless shots and sequences that were repetitive, meaningless, hollow and just boring … and how does Nina’s boyfriend qualify as a “disinterested party” to serve court papers to the man she’s been hired to sue for divorce?? Just so many inexplicably lazy and cliched plot points and ideas … I can’t remember the last time I had to keep skipping forward through scenes in a tv drama …

I'm just finishing watching it and I can't wait for it to finish, it's terrible. It's so silly and like a really bad room com full of clichéd speeches and cringey moments in an attempt to fill the gaping plot holes. Total waste of my life watching it.

How is it possible to legally move a wedding from a church to a beach at no notice? Couldn’t do it in the UK, doubt it’s possible in Spain either.

You could do that in Scotland - it’s the person that’s registered, not the location

I loved it. Despite all the plot holes particularly as you would definitely need a Spanish lawyer

It’s actually pretty common for people/companies with a go-to lawyer to use them in all jurisdictions and just use a local lawyer to rubber stamp the agreement at the end, so I didn’t think this was that unrealistic especially given that Hannah would want control where Liv is concerned.

ETA I also loved it despite its many shortcomings! Total comfort TV but a few steps up from reality trash 😀

I think you could also add the contrivance of the wedding being held at the last minute on a beach officiated by Anglican vicar! But i guess there were enough lawyers present to attest if it was legal or not.

They maybe didn’t actually want it to be legal because I don’t think they signed the prenup? Gael’s mum wasn’t about to forget about that!

sellotape12 · 06/01/2025 20:39

Not sure if I’m enjoying it or not. And I was a super fan of the series. The high drama seems to be happening in very quick succession and some of it’s just not believable. Massive life-changing events occur and then are washed over within about 12 seconds! But oh, the costumes are beautiful And where’s Christie!? ❤️‍🩹

Has Nina ever showed lesbian tendancies before? The moment to two of them met, they were over eye acting.

Hannah navy dress - though stunning - looked out of place with her sisters wearing floral.

Does Nina have a child? Who is the father?

Nina had a baby in S2 or S3. Baby daddy was her divorce client, the stand up comedian who went back to his wife.

I spent the first ten minutes of ep 1 muttering: “Hannah, you’re in hot Spain, take that bloody blazer off!”

Same here!!

Why were the streets of Barcelona so empty

And the beach?

I think they might have been in sitges , down the coast from Barcelona

He was an IT student from Argentina in S3!

Glad you confirmed that as I was sure he was from a South American country! Didn't Liv meet him when she was out there on a gap year or something?

I am probably thinking too deeply here but I have now noticed that all the uncool, not part of the beautiful people, not like us are male and BAME - Rosie's first husband, the vicar who she is with now, and Nina's new boyfriend in this special. All of them set up to be ridiculous characters and ridiculed.

To be fair, all the characters were utterly ridiculous.

No. A UK marriage would definitely need a Spanish lawyer as they were both Spanish nationals getting divorced

macap · 08/01/2025 00:20

I can't believe her own brother and sister didn't go to their own sisters wedding! That bit was unbelievable..

Would love for another series to be made, feel like they left lots of bits open for that. 👀

sellotape12 · 11/01/2025 19:11

You know what I couldn’t finish this. Such a shame because I loved the series. Far too saccharine, unrealistic and soap opera like. Surely it wasn’t the same writer ? Even the youngest sister who I usually like was so churlish with her husband on the trip that I thought she was being a bit of a twerp.

mazylou · 11/01/2025 22:33

Just watched it. Very soapy.

However, the clothes are lovely - anyone got a clue about Nicola's dressing gown?

GertrudeJekyllAndHyde · 12/01/2025 11:05

I'd never watched The Split, but a friend recommended it. Having now binged it, I agree with ariadneefron's summary.

I've seen since an interview with the writer, in which she concedes this 'isn't Ibsen' and one with Nicola Walker in which she says the cast would like to do more 'specials'. I'm imagining the family travelling around the world, always to luxury locations, where they encounter high net worth individuals who need a divorce to be drawn up within 24 hours by lawyers not licensed to work in the jurisdiction ...

wizzbitt · 17/01/2025 22:14

soupsong · 30/12/2024 09:10

Maybe it's because I binge watched but I found Nicola Walker's overacting increasingly annoying. The looooong pauses between her lips moving and actually speaking!

You've described her perfectly. It's so annoying and it's all I focus on now.
Spain looked beautiful but the programme was shite! Absolute nonsense.
PP Character descriptions so accurate too! Shame as I loved the previous series's

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/02/2025 22:33

I feel aahamed of myself for actually sitting through this terrible drivel. Steven Mangan's character is hateful. Archie is like some sort of 1970s Roger Moore throw back, I wouldn't have been surprised to see him sporting a cravat and smoking one of those little cigarette sized cigars. The dancing, laughing, having fun scenes - eeeek so painful and sooooooooo drawn out (including slomo ffs). The wedding on the beach - we said to each other at least twice "surely this has got to end soon, please make it stop". Hannah's speech about her Mum bod and feeling nervous - that obviously all stemmed from Abi Morgan's reality, it absolutely did not ring true for Hannah at all. 2 out of 10.

Joyous25 · 22/04/2025 14:58

When the men at the stags night were talking about their wives or previous wives, didn't Ronnie say his dead wife was Ann? All the way through it's been "poor June". ? Did I hear it wrong.

TheBrickViewer · 07/06/2025 08:53

This Barcelona thing was rubbish. Agree with lots of the reviews. Enjoyed the first 3 series, with Hannah as the super cheating wife. She had the hots for Christie when she became re acquainted, cut Nathan off and he strayed. Wot did you expect lady!! For a sequel, I wanted her to get back together with philandering Christie to get a taste of what it's like! He cheats on her and she leaves to becomes a single miserable old women, forever regretting ruining a good marriage, You made your own bed Hannah. You can write that as another sequel, Abbie.
