Anyone watching this? Started tonight. I'd never heard of Emma Sidi before, I think she's funny..

I think there have still been good tasks but it's the contestants that can make them seem not so good.

The memory test this week was quite lame. I think the 2nd part needed more of a twist. I like the idea of playing a joker, but the hot dog costume was a bit basic.

The doorbell task was wasted on this bunch. I think Rosie's was the best, but it wasn't that good. Ed Gamble on his podcast suggested that the doorbell task could have been influenced by the Inside no 9 episode.

So disappointed with last night's show. Hardly cracked a smile. And ridiculous to partner Rosie with Jack.

Again all the games geared to Rosie and rather dull.

Why is it ridiculous to put Jack and Rosie together? Sometimes the teams are just down to when people are free.

And by "all the games geared to Rosie" do you mean they're being inclusive? Would you prefer more games where she just has to sit on the sidelines?

banivani · 20/09/2024 21:18

Well, my opinion is that taskmaster sadly jumped the shark a long time ago, the freshness is gone and the editing has somehow felt off for many seasons. (I still watch, obv.) What makes this show is studio banter, not the tasks (because it’s in the studio we get to know the contestants, and without knowing them you stop caring about the tasks). How do I know? Because I’m in Sweden and have watched the Swedish version ;) They seem to be cutting studio talk a lot so it feels more disjointed. Possibly studio chat isn’t as good, maybe Greg is less unpredictable nowadays? But first episode of this season we laughed out loud several times, less on this episode. Too bad Jack Dee is being a bit ”persona”. Agree completely about the doorbell task, very flat on the whole! But it could have been lifted by good studio chat. There was none!

As a disabled person, this really rings true to me. Yes, there may be physical tasks that she would possibly struggle with. So in order for her to participate, some adjustments might have been made. The law actually states that reasonable adjustments should be made for disabled people. The amount of people on here who don't like her (or even worse, won't watch because she's on) just goes to reinforce my own experience of peoples views of disabled people.

It's fine not to like someone, sure. But I've been on these threads and watched Taskmaster from the start. Never have I seen so much negativity towards a contestant.

Samcro · 20/09/2024 21:48

@RainbowZebraWarrior thank you for posting that. I admit to be touchy about this subject as my adult dc has CP .
even if I don’t find everything she says funny, I am really pleased she is on the show.

FrippEnos · 20/09/2024 21:53

I think that people forget that they don't own the show.
Anyone that knew who the contestants were going into this season would know that adjustments would have to be made.

I know that its early days yet but the show as of ep 2 for me is just flat, and that is down to all of the selected contestants.

ClaudineMallory · 20/09/2024 22:00

Yes, good points @Samcro and @RainbowZebraWarrior . I think it's been a bit dull because of the tasks, really. For the doorbell task, Rosie's was the best I thought, because it was funny. They're all likable, so maybe it'll get better.

My dislike of Rosie is because of her awful comments about Greta when she was still a child. I have admired her acting skills in the past but am still angry about her comments and lack of apology or remorse.

Jack works best when he can be grumpy and rude and he's too kind to be like that with Rosie. Similarly with Greg, it is verging on patronising.

I'm a wheelchair user with very limited mobility myself which is why I feel the tasks are geared towards Rosie because I could do them. That doesn't necessarily make for great entertainment.

I don't think the group are a good mix as a whole which is sad because I have been longing to see Jack in it.

Samcro · 20/09/2024 23:13

Do we cancel all comedians because we don’t like something they have said?
i don’t think what she said was right or funny. But i still am glad to see a person with CP on a mainstream programme.

ClaudineMallory · 21/09/2024 07:31

That's such a good point, @Samcro . Rosie is visible. She's funny and enjoying herself. I think she's naturally a very sharp person and will devise ways to complete the tasks. I like the pairing with her and Jack, I think they're clever enough to do well.

I was prepared to hate Frankie Boyle because of his comments about Katie Price and Harvey (can't say I'm a huge fan of her either) but warmed to him while he was on TM. I don't particularly usually find Rosie Jones funny, but I'm warming to her here as well, lovely enthusiasm and self deprecating confidence.. I do have difficulty understanding her sometimes (I'm autistic) so I watched the first episode with subtitles, which ruined every single punchline, so I've pinged those off. I'll try harder.
I don't think it will be the best series, but that's OK, I'm still here for it.

ClaudineMallory · 21/09/2024 07:49

I agree with you, @Snapespeare - I thought Frankie Boyle was great and loved his partnership with Ivo Graham!

OP posts:
CwmYoy · 21/09/2024 09:24

Frankie gave up drinking and has often said he has regrets about things he said in the past. I warmed to him and Ivo.

Rosie has expressed no regrets about what she said.

Samcro · 21/09/2024 10:02

i do wish people would realise what CP is.

I think most people know what it is. Although older people often use the old and ugly word for it.

BridgetRandomfuck · 21/09/2024 11:32

I’ve been neutral about Rosie Jones in the past, never found her particularly funny, but I’ve warmed to her on this! I think she brings a good energy, especially as some of the other contestants don’t seem to work as well. I’m not sure Babatunde is a good fit, he seems bemused by most of it, and I wasn’t familiar with Andy Zaltzman and don’t feel inclined to seek him out further. I think he has been very creative in some of the tasks though. I love Jack Dee and was really looking forward to seeing him on TM, but not sure if this is the right group to be playing off. But it often does take some time to warm up and I think ther could be potential here. I’ll keep watching regardless 😁

The rocket task was a bit better. More ingenuity.

These 3D artworks are quite fun and quite funny! This week is better so far

ClaudineMallory · 26/09/2024 21:32

Also the art recreation! Emma's was brilliant, it really looked like Klimt!

OP posts:
Runningupthecurtains · 26/09/2024 22:13

The art task was brilliant - they were all fantastic and I was able to identify them all before the real artist was shown (and I'm not an art buff).

Umanresources · 27/09/2024 00:37

I enjoyed this week’s episode more than the others, loved the art one. I thought all of them did really well in that one. I even liked the rocket one along with the quiz one, which was very silly.

CwmYoy · 27/09/2024 10:13

Enjoyed the art test. Brilliant all round.

BuzzieLittleBee · 27/09/2024 13:35

I thought last night's episode was brilliant! Loved the art task (although it was a cop out scoring them all the same). The quiz task was a bit random, but still very enjoyable. The studio task was bonkers!

BlossomToLeaves · 27/09/2024 13:44

the quiz one would have been funnier if someone other than Alex was the quiz host I think - seeing if they could fool someone else who didn't know that they were trying to cheat. I did like how Alex was trying not to crack up at the kiss on the cheek - though he didn't stop that, as I guess it wasn't really cheating on the actual quiz
