Season four is about to hit our screens. If you haven’t watched it, I thoroughly recommend it. Gary Oldman is superb.

Filming on season five ended this week.

Thank god we don't have to wait too long! I actually thought this was one of the best series- especially the last episode. Jonathan Pryce just broke my heart. As did Jackson Lamb when he tried t stop Shirley seeing the body. And when the new very odd member staff said 'He loved you and wanted you to love yourself'. (Shirley reminds me a lot of me when I was younger)
And when River said 'Don't fucking 'Son' me!'.
And Roddie is so wonderfully obnoxious- i love that theres no attempt to give him any saving graces at all. Like when they were told of River's death' and he went 'In other news I have a girlfriend!'.

wildfellhall · 21/10/2024 13:25

I agree, I think the TV show works best for some who haven't read the books?

Prriorayingly · 01/12/2024 22:46

I love the characters so much. Lamb, of course but also all the women in it, especially Standish. She’s just brilliant!

It always shocks me when I see Saskia Reeves on a red carpet. They really age her to play Standish.

Even in her cardi and hairclip you can tell she’s a beauty!

She's 63, the same as me - tbh as Standish she looks like many 'real women' of our age.

Agreed. She looks so much older than 63. She looks 15 years younger on the red carpet

Puppupandaway · 02/12/2024 19:58

She's never 63, omg!!! She looked amazing when she was on gogglebox stand up to cancer. I'd have put her in her fifties, not 63. Wow.

Saskia at the Emmys a few months ago.

Saskia Reeves strikes me as the most unassuming person in the whole of the entertainment industry.

Puppupandaway · 04/12/2024 17:06

I watched her in a bbc drama series a few years ago. Not sure what it was called, but she had split with her husband (Tom Hollander) and they were having a summer touring Europe as a final family holiday. I didn't really like her in that but I've been blown away by her in Slow Horses. But I had to Google her as I couldn't believe it was the same actress.

diddl · 17/12/2024 11:06

I've just watched this.

I really disliked David.

Arrogant bloke who turned out to be as bad as all the others he derided.

Couldn't quite make sense of the daughter thing.

She went of her own free will?

Was she vulnerable somehow?

Always hated her dad for getting her out of the situation?

Seems odd that.

And she gave up River-why?

Has it all been explained & I missed it?

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 17/12/2024 11:12

You probably need to read the novel, @diddl. It’ll make more sense then!

Haven’t read the books myself (in my VERY long “To Read” list!)

My assumptions are:

David is meant to be unlikeable - showing us that it’s not all black and white/ good guys or bad guys.

Daughter had poor relationship with her father and was targeted/groomed because of who her father was.

Probably was vulnerable in terms of mental health and suggested substance abuse issues.

As for giving up River, that would play into the above.

Hallo, I just got a new iPhone, and three months free Apple TV with it. I've never cared for spy or secret agent stories, but heard SH was good, and what a cast list. We've binged on all four series over the past week, every night. Phew! Absolutely loved it, what brilliant characters. Just got book one to read, can't believe I'm reading MI5 fiction!
must admit the plot,of series 4 was a bit hard to follow, it did seem a bit rushed. Feeling a bit bereft now, what shall I watch that is half as good.
anyone know when series five will be aired?

Madcats · 23/02/2025 22:12

I have memories of binging The Wire when DD was a toddler, so I can sympathise.

We've just paused our sub.

I liked Bad Sisters (DH was a late adopter) and coped with Shrinking.

Ted Lasso was fun.

tennissquare · 23/02/2025 22:34

@FizzingAda , you can Google series 5 release date and predications are summer of 2025 as it's already been filmed.

The next best thing on Apple TV is Series 1 of Bad Sisters.

5foot5 · 23/02/2025 22:58

DH and I had a few days in London recently and, after a bit of googling, found the bench where Jackson Lamb meets Diana Taverner. So yes we have got a photo of DH sitting there!

Though we did have to hang about a bit to wait for the two young women who were sat on it to leave.
