Season four is about to hit our screens. If you haven’t watched it, I thoroughly recommend it. Gary Oldman is superb.

Have to say I feel the lost momentum of weekly episodes doesnt really work for this show. It needs to be devoured in a rush.

Totally agree. But I haven't got the willpower to wait until every episode has aired!

I feel the opposite! I savour the pile-up of tension over a week, the cliffhangers, picking over what we saw and heard and what different people said and did, guessing at what people are really playing at and what's going to happen next. Bingeing would spoil half my fun.

Madcats · 26/09/2024 16:49

LighhtandBreezy DH devoured the main series of books (I've just read a couple) and doesn't seem to consider that "knowing what's going to happen" is too much of an issue.

Off the back of a recommendation from a fellow bookclub member I picked up The Drop, The List and Dolphin Junction secondhand. They are short, but nevertheless they went down well.

Over the Summer they were filming Down Cemetery Road (one of his Zoe Boehm series). I enjoyed that particular book (possibly because Zoe isn't really in it), but struggled with the second in the series.

Agreed

Watching episode 1 of season 4 now.

youngestisapsycho · 02/10/2024 14:12

Is anyone watching this… is there another thread I’ve missed?

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 02/10/2024 14:21

Don’t know about any other threads. I can’t watch today’s episode until later.

LightandBreezy · 02/10/2024 14:27

Don't think there's another thread. I've just watched ep5, utterly failed to delay watching again 😅It feels like there's a hell of a lot to wrap up in the final episode of the season but it's still amping up the tension and utterly gripping. Only about 162 hours for me to wait now 😂

I've only seen up to and including 4, but agree it seems like there's been a lot of episodes and a lot still to happen...
This may be controversial, but I'm not quite loving this season like the others... I think it's at least partly because River has largely been in France and there's been minimal interaction between him and the rest of the horses/him and his grandfather. I loved the sequence where Louise thinks he's going to ask her out 😄and would like more of that kind of thing.

readingmakesmehappy · 02/10/2024 21:10

Was this the season finale? The other series were all 6 episodes but there's definitely more to happen (I've read the books)

I'm not watching S4 till we get back from holiday but the wiki page says 6 episodes with the last on oct 9

LightandBreezy · 02/10/2024 21:44

Season finale is next week. @MarkWithaC interesting you've not enjoyed this season as much. I've really enjoyed it but am struggling to specify why exactly - Jonathan Pryce's performance has been fabulous, KST and Gary O have continued to be excellent. River and New Head dog very convincing in E5. Really like Moira too. I've not been too sad there's not been a lot of Shirley and Marcus. I think my least favourite series was 3 when it all got a bit gun crazy in the finale, and was essentially a very sad plotline. It still had many excellent moments of course, and it's the only one I haven't now rewatched so I may find more to enjoy when I do ( as was the case with S1 and 2)

CarolynMartens · 03/10/2024 17:55

I was racking my brains as to who the guy on First Desk was! Bridget Jones, that’s it. I don’t know why I didn’t Google tbh. He has aged well.

Shirley is the most un-Shirley-like Shirley there has ever been.

KillingMeDeftIy · 03/10/2024 18:26

I was thinking the same! And how many 30something Shirleys have you ever met?

CarolynMartens · 03/10/2024 20:21

I know! Is there any explanation as to her name in the books?

I agree. I thought I was having a senior moment trying to remember the ins and outs.

EternallyDelighted · 03/10/2024 21:58

I thought this book was the best of the lot but somehow it's not gripping me on TV in the same way, the plot threads aren't hanging together as well. Still very good though.

wildfellhall · 03/10/2024 22:25

OMG!

How can they leave us hanging like that those APPLETV BASTARDS

wildfellhall · 03/10/2024 22:30

So good!

IWantedThereThereButItsGone · 04/10/2024 16:28

OMG!

That ending. Think I’m going to be sick. And I’ve read the book! That was just terrifying.

The end credits … Shock

wildfellhall · 04/10/2024 22:33

Shirley 💕💕 has a tiny part in Wokf Hall, such a surprise to see her!

wildfellhall · 04/10/2024 22:33

Wolf

Merrilydancing · 06/10/2024 00:24

Ooft, loving this! Roll on Wednesday to see the conclusion and see if my theory is correct.
Gary Oldman and KST have been excellent as always.

TempersFuggit · 07/10/2024 11:54

I have read all of the Slough House books, and have reheard the audio books countless time - they are excellent by the way. I am enjoying this series, but it's nearly finished and so much has been left out. There have been some new bits that aren't in the book which are very well done, but its too rushed. Surely six episodes isn't enough. We have to wade through eight episodes of American dramas, but only six for this seems too short.

I am particularly enjoying River in this series, and Ho, I think the script-writers have done an excellent job.
