Also from Cwickham <applauds a poster after my own heart>

Tom was 10th of 15, which is the same leaderboard position from which Chizzy was first boot in 2017 (I believe the highest leaderboard position from which anyone has been first boot under the current set-up). Lee Ryan hit the dance-off from 7th of 15 a year later but survived that week.

Dance-offs where the lower-scoring dance in the main show won the D/O

  • Tom Dean (20) vs Toyah Willcox (18)
  • AJ Odudu (30) vs Dan Walker (31)
  • Sara Davies (32) vs Tilly Ramsay (29)
  • Jamie Laing (24) vs Ranvir Singh (26)
  • David James (10) vs James Cracknell (13)
  • Katie Derham (31) vs Anita Rani (32)
  • Jamelia (31) vs Peter Andre (29)
  • Daniel O'Donnell (23) vs Kirsty Gallacher (21)
  • Colin Salmon (27) vs Richard Arnold (17)
  • Richard Arnold (19) vs Johnny Ball (20)
  • Martina Hingis (24) vs Rav Wilding (22)
  • Cherie Lunghi (32) vs Lisa Snowdon (30)
  • Heather Small (23) vs Don Warrington (25)
  • Don Warrington (19) vs Phil Daniels (20)
  • John Barnes (24) vs Dominic Littlewood (25)
  • Stephanie Beacham (24) vs Letitia Dean (23)

Gotta love a spreadsheet/deep dive <3 <3 <3
Also, am still not over Jimjams elimination! Grin #justice4Jamelia

I'm disappointed with the result as I do think Tom has more potential than Toyah, which us why I used one of my votes on him rather than her. I suppose he doesn't really have a fan base and his dance was rather forgettable.

Toyah's dance, on the other hand was rememberable for all the wrong reasons. There was a glaring lack of jive steps- kick ball chain, drunken sailor etc in her dance. What does did was energetic but messy amd the bit at the end just made her look daft.

I don't want to blame Neil, but having seen two consecutive dances where she looks naff, then maybe the partnership is simply not working and he's not bothered about whether they go out early or not?

Rant over.

I'm sad for Tom that he's gone! It must be a big knock to his confidence that he got voted out first.

I think that he's relitively unknown compared to others and maybe that's why people hadn't got behind him 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was excited when I saw him sign up so feel disappointed to learn he's gone already!

I do think that the professionals popularity have a huge influence on the celebs. When I watch the pairing shows I'm excited to see who my fave professional has, not the other way round 🙈 I'm not sure that Nadia is all that popular.... maybe I'm wrong!

I no longer know - I used to believe

  • the Fantons could keep Tony Beak in a few more weeks
  • that Gio's squad would see him through
  • that the number of followers on Insta could have bearing on the voting patterns
  • and once a pro's popularity seemed to wain (e.g. the Jordans whose departures followed First Boots) they became dispensable

However
I don't think the outcomes back it up and you still had... Kai going out early with Kaye, Gio's popularity pre-furore not surviving a warthog suit, putting the baad into Pumbaa. Both pros were beating peers with twitter numbers and insta followers.
That said, Nadiya has only reached later stages with Dan and Davood and Neil is beyond marmite across all fora.
I think YouTube views are probably the most reliable source. Even then, there'll be tactical voters like me until after Halloween.
My actual favourites last night based on dance/music and costume were Shayne, Wynne and Sarah although I was pleasantly surprised by Jamie.
Week one I liked Sam and Montell with sympathy vote for being able to make anything out of Vindaloo to Karen.
None of these got my vote last night. I won't be the only one.

Many thanks for bringing the stats @BehindTheSequinsandStilettos

Not me today Reise, Cwickham on Digital Spy Star

EvilRingahBitch · 29/09/2024 13:30

I think if the pro vote was a thing then Anton wouldn't have been first boot twice, and Kai wouldn't have been first boot last year. If you look at Pointless rounds on the subject the name recognition of all the pros except Anton is virtually nil.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/09/2024 13:33

Oh I don't go on DS, I meant thanks for bringing them across!!

EvilRingahBitch · 29/09/2024 13:37

My betting for the final 4 is Chris, Montell, Sarah and Tasha, with Wynne as an outside bet instead of Sarah. I reckon JB for a Shock Boot.
If someone drops out and it's only 3 in the final then Tasha, Sarah and Montell. Chris is highly unlikely to survive a 4 person semi-final where he's the most popular contestant but the worst dancer, but might escape from a 5 person semi-final, especially if there are ties on the leaderboard.

Again Wynne as a dark horse, he's showing well in the polls atm, but that might be down to the beautiful traditional waltz this week rather than his marmite comedy persona - next week will be interesting.

EsmaCannonball · 29/09/2024 13:46

Some of those dance-off results still have the power to make me angry. Jamelia going over Peter bloody Andre, Ranvir going over Jamie bleedin' Laing, but, most of all, Kirsty effin' Gallacher being saved over Daniel O'Donnell. Most fun-sucking decision ever.

Lentilweaver · 29/09/2024 13:51

I hope they don't put a comedy wig on JB ( like they did on Aston and Tyler).

Tyler's Halloween cha cha was amazing though and it was in keeping with the movie it came from. (I loved Tyler I thought he was eliminated too early)

I think Tom suffered from 1. Not being well known 2. Not having a strong personality 3. Not considered to be undermarked.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/09/2024 16:04

I wonder if Toyah has been found to be challenging by production and it was a production decision to pacify her by keeping her in, instead of risking bad press

She doesn't seem to like Neil or be enjoying herself.

It is odd that 9th place left over 15th

I do think that Toyah has been enjoying the dancing (but it can't be nice being bottom of the leaderboard)

And the dance off is based on the second dance and Tom only scored two more points than Toyah this week. Craig and Shirley scored them the same so it looks like Motsi changed her mind based on the dance off performance. (Apparently the decisions were Craig, Motsi and Shirley saved Toyah and Anton would have saved Tom according to Digital Spy)

virgocatlover · 29/09/2024 16:09

Tom must have really messed up the dance off

Sam 45
Tom 43

Toyah 30

Not my stats, but doing it myself, I can see why Cwickham has said Tom was 10th (see combined after show 1 and 2 above). This excludes the fact that two tied scores. You can say he's eighth if you count ties - either way, the one above him, Sam, has Nikita's and Lakita's fanbase and the ones below have:
injury porn votes (+Parklife)
pirate porn votes Wink
undermarking votes
Arsenal votes (+Vindaloo)
Neil (both those who feel sorry for her and those who feel sorry for him)

Tom had no pity points coming, did two adequate dances (I watched his chacha back three times, it's very stiff with no hip action but he has more steps than Toyah) and if you look at the above, he's lacking a USP (being young and an Olympian seemingly not cutting it).

The DO was a fair result though. I was surprised.

KnottedTwine · 05/10/2024 22:43

So who do we think is going tonight? Really hoping Toyah or paul

EvilRingahBitch · 05/10/2024 22:45

Settling in for the Spoiler arrival. With all the ties on the leader board it could be a shocker.

If Entertainment Odds poll is an accurate guide to the public vote then it would be Paul vs Toyah: so far so predictable. But they've been underestimating Paul's public vote - if you take him out of the running then the person granted the privilege of knocking out Toyah is JB. And even Shayne wouldn't look completely safe.
(ETA: when I say "not safe" obviously anyone in the DO with Toyah is safe as houses, because she's going home regardless, but it would be a shocking leaderboard plummet).

JB is very dull.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 05/10/2024 23:04

Surely Toyah to go tonight. Mind you I thought that last week!
