Following on from the last thread, that started in late April 2024.

Joel's the baddie, and Lauren is still missing
Roy's a free man, and Carla and Swain are close to kissing
Will Bethany quit moaning, she does it all the time!
Sarah is still hot, but needs to slow down on the wine

Leanne's missing too, has that cult bloke kidnapped her then?
And where are the quads, does anyone ever see them?
Paul's still alive, hanging on and on in there
Cop Kit's a bit tasty but a bit annoying and hard to bear

Not much with the Platts or the Barlows or The Rovers
Carla's pub money being stolen by Jenny and Daisy has been glossed over
Adam still has his wacky hair that's a bit greasy
Daniel's still boring, yet the cutest girls to him come easy

The school bully storyline has eased off a bit
So Maria can chill - and Sarah can get off with Kit
I hope it's OK for me to start this new thread my friends
I wonder where we'll be at when this thread ends? Smile

I'm very close to turning it off. I can't bear it.

I agree. I found it really unpalatable. Do I really want to see a teenager menaced and manipulated by a sadistic self-pitying lawyer? No, I don't. I think they have made a mistake with this storyline.

I also have no idea why Lauren let Roy loiter in jail for months yet saw a tiktok video and rushed to his side.

strugglingwithlife · 09/07/2024 21:48

They never seem to have CCTV in soaps 🙄

Shellingbynight · 09/07/2024 22:01

I was watching on +1 so just saw the ending - it makes me really uncomfortable the way they are showing Lauren as such a victim and apparently without any brain cells. Goading her aggressor while shut in a room with him. Then off she goes again, so she can disappear until needed for plot reasons.

Good acting, but terrible storyline. (You might have gathered I hated it! 😄)

PiggieWig · 09/07/2024 22:16

As there’s only two taxi drivers in Weatherfield - Steve and Tim, I do t think Lauren will get very far. I can’t believe no-one at the hospital recognised her, with all the publicity.

I thought her acting was really good though.

Clawdy · 09/07/2024 22:29

Good acting, deeply unpleasant story. I kept thinking Joel was going to punch her in the stomach to damage the baby, very grim viewing.

PiggieWig · 09/07/2024 22:33

Yeah, it was grim alright. He’s a nasty piece of work isn’t he? He needs his comeuppance.

VoteHappy · 09/07/2024 22:51

Holy shit that was a difficult watch but Joel actor is very good.
Portraying a true Narc, one minute menacing the next a pathetic little boy.
I see now why the showed his parents the way they did, pandering and overprotective and they have produced a vile, entitled rapist.

The way he is prepared to go to any lengths to get what he wants and is using Dee-Dee to.prop up his image
Classic Narc

He won't want Lauren to have the baby, it's proof of what he's doneSad

QueenofHebdenBridge · 09/07/2024 23:00

Brilliant episode tonight. I like Callum Lill playing Joel & was hoping that he wouldn't turn out to be all bad but that's not happening now Confused

Did the set tour a few weeks ago & they had the front of the hospital set up as they said they were filming lots of hospital scenes, now I know why!

Watching Classic Corrie too - 20 years ago it was Charlie Stubbs, now we have Joel ....

HurdyGurdy19 · 09/07/2024 20:45

That was a very clever way of relaying the story, with Joel's voice telling his lies, over the visual of what actually happened.

The two actors are playing their parts SO well (but I can't help wondering what Joel's actor's grandmother will be thinking 😅- that's a TikTok to look forward to)

I agree, him crying and saying he went for help while we see him popping out for a suitcase to stuff her body in, very well done. I didn't think the Joel actor was very good up until now but he and Lauren were both terrific in those scenes.
Can't wait to see the actor with his nan!

Clawdy · 10/07/2024 17:48

A bit odd that with all the coverage of Lauren's disappearance, nobody remembered a distraught bleeding blonde girl asking for money then sitting on a bus!

ArabellaFishwife · 10/07/2024 18:22

That struck me as very odd too, @Clawdy. Most people would check on a stranger having a heavy nosebleed in a confined space like a coach, never mind a traumatised young girl with gory locks.

WiddlinDiddlin · 10/07/2024 18:41

Yeah its rather odd that she managed to do a bunk without ANYONE seeing her at all, in broad daylight, covered in blood...

I do hope Weatherfield CID eat their words on the 'this is enough blood to indicate someone definitely died here...' statement... assuming Lauren actually presents herself to someone who is a/awake and b/not likely to try and off her a second time.

plimbow · 10/07/2024 19:13

That's some tough old skull Lauren's got. She not only survived but managed to escape on a coach.

AmusedMaker · 10/07/2024 19:17

It must just be me but I think Joel is a terrible actor.

Roryhon · 10/07/2024 21:41

There must have been a surprisingly little amount of blood - Sean was the first person to notice when he viewed the flat, if I remember correctly. And it wasn’t that much.

eggandonion · 10/07/2024 23:41

Tough skull and big coat. She was invisible.

Optimist1 · 11/07/2024 06:54

Tough skull and big coat. She was invisible.

One of the first rules of Corrie : a hood will render the wearer invisible!

It's not just you. I was surprised at the plaudits he was getting on here. Admittedly the lines he had to say were awful, but Lauren actress much better imo.

Shellingbynight · 11/07/2024 08:48

I am not sure how good an actor Joel is, I would have said it would be far more effective if he 'did less' rather than constantly chewing the scenery. But the storylining is so off key, it's really hard to judge what would help tbh. Putting two new characters in a high drama storyline and expecting us to care when we barely know either of them is an odd choice.

plimbow · 11/07/2024 09:49

I caught a bit of Classic Corrie the other day.

Charlie Stubbs was quietly terrifying, great acting, Joel not so much!

Deadringer · 11/07/2024 18:36

I don't rate him as an actor, but thought he was good in those scenes. Can't believe we have to wait until Monday to watch.

VoteHappy · 11/07/2024 18:44

I thought he was good
Mr Average, nice guy when with Dee-Dee and then the Narc moving into rage and pathetic child when his world is about to crash down.
I've known a lot of men like this ( proffesional capacity) and he got it spot on.
He was so bland and teeny mouthed that none of us suspected until the necklace/ jewellery receipt

Personally I prefer that to Stephen and his panto villain act with super hearing lurking about

PiggieWig · 11/07/2024 19:52

I wondered if he’d been taking acting lessons from Max at some points, that sneers, slow way of talking.

NCTDN · 12/07/2024 21:47

I thought it was a really good episode. Such a relief to not have all the institute stuff!

NCTDN · 15/07/2024 20:08

Is amy really gullible or do you think she's trying to suss them out ?
