Following on from the last thread, that started in late April 2024.

Joel's the baddie, and Lauren is still missing
Roy's a free man, and Carla and Swain are close to kissing
Will Bethany quit moaning, she does it all the time!
Sarah is still hot, but needs to slow down on the wine

Leanne's missing too, has that cult bloke kidnapped her then?
And where are the quads, does anyone ever see them?
Paul's still alive, hanging on and on in there
Cop Kit's a bit tasty but a bit annoying and hard to bear

Not much with the Platts or the Barlows or The Rovers
Carla's pub money being stolen by Jenny and Daisy has been glossed over
Adam still has his wacky hair that's a bit greasy
Daniel's still boring, yet the cutest girls to him come easy

The school bully storyline has eased off a bit
So Maria can chill - and Sarah can get off with Kit
I hope it's OK for me to start this new thread my friends
I wonder where we'll be at when this thread ends? Smile

I missed those scenes with the penalty notice, I must have been out of the room (or I zoned out!)

One of the things I am finding most annoying is the lack of staff in the Rovers. Supposedly Glenda is running the place single handed, she's the only person you see behind the bar now. She said Jenny was out and Daisy had a migraine? Where's Sean? (not that I mind his absence) and doesn't Gemma still supposedly work there?

We haven't seen Jenny in ages.

DerekFaker · 25/06/2024 09:57

Also where did Ryan go?

Shellingbynight · 25/06/2024 10:09

He hasn't been around for a while either has he? I've lost track of what he actually does now, does he work (invisibly) behind the bar?

eggandonion · 24/06/2024 22:22

I assume he owns a chain of shoeshops extending into nice places in Cheshire.

That particular one is in Altrincham. A tram ride away for Gemma to go shopping!

And surely Asha’s old shoes wouldn’t be much better for the little girls feet!

AmusedMaker · 25/06/2024 10:59

Haven’t seen Daisy much lately either.
I think most of the cast only get paid by the scene these days so they limit them ( a lot! )

AuntieMaud · 25/06/2024 12:00

Thanks to those who cleared up my query re Gemma and the car. I was probably having a wee and missed a bit ( not taking my own advice and pausing the screen for a minute🙄😃)

AuntieMaud · 25/06/2024 12:06

Glenda can probably run the pub single handed as it's gone back to only a handful of customers.

If it's true the cast only get paid if in scenes then they must have other incomes as half of them are missing in action.

Unlike the pro footballers. That's another thread for another day 🤐😈

BirthdayRainbow · 25/06/2024 17:20

It was in the media a few days ago that Jenny has been given a few weeks off.

eggandonion · 25/06/2024 17:27

Im sure there was something about filming people in 6 week chunks. So Eileen vanished and now Jenny isnt around.
Dr Badass needs a big story. Her and Swain and Carla gossiping madly.
Ryans scar had healed really well.

Shellingbynight · 25/06/2024 18:16

'Eileen' is on stage in Sister Act so she's been missing for ages (supposedly in Thailand with Our Jason).

Some of the cast do get paid by the number of scenes/days they work, although I believe the older cast like Ken, Rita, Gail still get a salary regardless (?I think).

There are some characters you can't dump because of block filming - like the landlady of the Rovers. She should be a mainstay, and be in most episodes.

Glenda can probably run the pub single handed as it's gone back to only a handful of customers.

Sadly true. The whole storyline with the pub failing, then miraculously suddenly being profitable for no apparent reason (and no customers) was ridiculous.

JellyBeanFactory · 25/06/2024 18:36

Have to say I thought the new young girl that popped up towards the end and goaded Joel, was a really promising actress. She had me hooked straightaway!

eggandonion · 25/06/2024 20:04

I hope it is the beginning of the end for Joel. And Deedee finds a nice boyfriend with no evil side.

PiggieWig · 25/06/2024 21:11

My latest fascination is the serving hatch in Kevin and Abi’s house. Where does it go? It doesn’t lead to the kitchen because it’s on the opposite wall, and the dining table is in front of it.

Does it have history? I feel a serving hatch may have been a storyline in times gone by.

suburburban · 25/06/2024 22:14

I'm sure it went into the sitting room and you used to see Kev and Sally sitting in there

Yes, Kevin and Sally had a front room like Ken’s house. I think Eileen still has a front room too.

Shellingbynight · 26/06/2024 08:32

I couldn't remember which house Kev and Abi lived in, we rarely see them actually going in and out nowadays. It is Kev and Sally's old house, which was originally Hilda and Stan's house - it was them who did the serving hatch (there's a photo on the link)

https://coronationstreet.fandom.com/wiki/13_Coronation_Street

They do have a front parlour/downstairs bedroom.

In Classic when Kev and Sally live there it looks much brighter. Nowadays it looks pretty grim. They film from different angles I suppose.

TwoThousandAcresofBlueSkyThinking · 26/06/2024 09:42

I've missed a fair bit of Corrie over the last few weeks. The last I saw of the Lauren story line was that Roy was still in prison and Lauren's dad's(?) friend was trying to lure him to the library. Roy is home now. Please, can anyone tell me why he was let go and do they know for sure what has happened to Lauren?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 26/06/2024 11:18

@TwoThousandAcresofBlueSkyThinking this explains it better than I could.

Nathan was the man imprisoned for abusing Bethany/ controlling other girls/ abusing them and he was out on licence.

Coronation Street confirms Roy Cropper's fate after murder attempt

The killer is finally unmasked.

Thank you very much @Allthehorsesintheworld , that's a good explanation.

Does anyone else wonder if Sabrina's friend could be Swain's daughter?

Oooh - great call! I'd say you could be spot on there.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 28/06/2024 07:08

Chesney, Gemma and tribe would get a fortune in benefits. Couple over 25 plus housing element, five child elements, five child benefits plus their wages. I can’t see wages making a huge deduction to the UC amount.
The housing element payment would likely covers their rent as it’s only a two bedroom house.
I would work it but I’ve not slept.

abouttoturn50 · 28/06/2024 07:32

@Thequeenofwishfulthinking benefits have been capped to 2 kids for a few years now so not as much as you'd think plus they work so they wouldn't get full benefits.

The 2 child limit doesn't apply if your second pregnancy is multiples.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 28/06/2024 08:11

@abouttoturn50 they would get over £600 in respect of the child element alone. . I think a few people have mentioned the multiple birth exemption.
They work but would get an amount theu can earn before deductions and then it would be tapered.
They would also be able to claim DLA for the quad who is deaf which would also increase their UC. I’m guessing they would bring home over £3500 a month but obviously we don’t know how much they earn.
They will be on minimum wage I suspect.

ruby1957 · 28/06/2024 08:39

They would also get 5 times Child Benefit unless they as a household earn over £50k (or is it now £60K?)
There is no child limit on that benefit!

It is silly that the whole thing is not more realistic as it could have been an important story line to show how some people are falling through the cracks when legitimately claiming benefits to which they are entitled.

A mouthy character like Gemma plus her mum would be on to the DWP like a shot for the £s
The story line should use a more sympathetic character/family to show what can happen to those 'left behind' by the system.
