Anyone else watching? I'm genuinely not sure what I think about what I've just watched 🤷🏻‍♀️ Would love to chew it over with others

Odd. The Indian girl seemed lovely but at 17 he is going to be so out of his depth with all the cultural family expectations.
The other lady and the guy from the Philippines is sad. She clearly just wants love and he seems like a creep who wants a visa and a shag.
It's hard to judge from the outside but neither seem particularly compatible.

Lilacdew · 24/05/2024 23:37

Only watched the first episode but they seem destined to fail. If Veena and Jay had met without all the family pressure, and if they were closer in age, I think they might get on well, but any 17 year old kid is going to run scared from a massive family expecting him to get engaged the first time he meets someone. That's just too huge a cultural shift.

The other couple just seem odd. Who talks on the phone all day with anyone? While they shower or go to the loo? Neither of them seems to have any mature understanding of what a real relationship will be like. She's 38 and acting like a teen. Very strange.

crenellations · 24/05/2024 23:42

I missed the very start - Sarah is 38? God. That guy seems creepy. I can at least understand why Veena and Jay have things in common but he hasn't had a chance to grow up and be himself yet. He's possibly more mature than he is acting for the cameras, but he is still so young, they will all mother him!

jlox · 24/05/2024 23:59

Ive just finished the first episode and starting the second. I like it so far but yeah, both couples have no chance 😐

80smercedes · 25/05/2024 00:50

I agree, neither couple seem well-suited. Jay and Veena seem to have lots in common but a 10 year age gap when he is only 16 is huge. They seem to really like eachother but the family expectations of engagement, marriage etc were massive. And Sarah and Jgoy - I hope I am wrong but he seemed desperate to impregnate her with the plan of getting a UK visa. Going to watch episode 2 in the hope that things get better ...

2nd ep is very interesting!! Come back when you've watched!

Pixiesgirl · 25/05/2024 02:10

I turned off when one of them said they got together when they were 15, gross.

rachisamumtobe · 25/05/2024 08:39

I'm quite liking this show. I met my husband online but he was London and I was in Shropshire! We were 17 and 18. Going across the world to India when you're 17 to meet someone wow.. tbh when you meet someone you click with it's such a comfort but I'm not sure about the other couple

icelollycraving · 25/05/2024 13:30

I watched both episodes that are on 4od. He still looks so young because he is! He was 15 and she was 26 when they started speaking which is grim. I’m surprised his family supported him pursuing it because I’d do everything I could to stop it.

ladybirdsanchez · 25/05/2024 19:54

Oh my God what did I just watch? A 26-year-old woman and her entire family GROOMING a 17-year-old boy! That was horrific to watch. Can you imagine Channel 4 broadcasting the same thing, but with a 17-year-old girl and a 26-year-old man from abroad???? FFS!

ladybirdsanchez · 25/05/2024 20:06

As for Sarah - she is old enough to know better and her partner is a disgusting, immature, controlling creep. I really hope in episode 3 she goes and stays in a hotel sees how vulnerable she made herself by flying halfway round the world to stay in the house of a man she's never met and really knows nothing about. Honestly, some people just shouldn't be allowed out - they're not safe!

userxz · 26/05/2024 00:32

Just watched both episodes

Sarah really annoyed me because she was so moody and grumpy the whole time she got there and I feel like she’s known for 2 years that the guy is desperate and weird but chose to ignore it and instead spend thousands to fly out there. She even agreed to have sex with him prior to meeting!

As for jay and veena- he was 15 and she was 26?? That’s absolutely wrong he was a child I have no idea how his parents are ok with that I find it so weird. How are they even ok broadcasting that on tv? Makes me wonder why she wanted a 15 year old across the other side of the world ? Im sure there was someone closer in age and distance in India who would have married her much sooner.

I look forward to the next episode but I definitely think the guy from Nigeria is showing a fake lifestyle , I mean why are they meeting in Dubai and not his home town? Tinder swindler vibes

deeahgwitch · 26/05/2024 08:56

I recorded it and watched Episode 1.
A 17 year old boy flying off to meet a 26 year old woman 😮🙄
The 38 year woman flying off to meet the guy in the Philippines.
It's not my thing tv wise.
I thought it would be more "normal" couples finally meeting up.
The usual dumbing down Channel 4 does.
They ruined MAFS UK for the racier Australian type show
I'm going to cancel the recording of the rest of the series

icelolly12 · 26/05/2024 09:09

Dubai guy is definitely faking his lifestyle and is probably after easy sex or a UK visa or both.

The cultural differences are far too vast for the seventeen year old kiddo bless him. He seems very naive for his age. I do like Veena, and hope she can put his best interests first- he needs to experience life. Her family are so overwhelming! No wonder she needs to escape from that household. She probably has in her mind's eye a romantic image of her running away with an Englishman- they met on a fantasy site which says it all. Neither of them are rooted in reality, it's all escapism.

The 38 year old should have seen it for what it was - a bit of flirting online because she was lonely. Although how she wasn't repulsed with him sat on the toilet chatting shit I don't know. Seems like her eyes have finally been opened with the visit. Him and his friends seem sex obsessed, like thirteen year old schoolboys giggling in the playground.

Got to say, the first two episodes had me hooked! Do I need to wait until Friday for more?

accentdusoleil · 26/05/2024 09:22

I presume it's part of the show , but why don't they stay in hotels together ? It seemed so overwhelming for Jay to be staying with the Indian family (although I did like the fishmongers and pasta combo) and for Sarah to be in his Philippino house. Would have been easier in a hotel but less exciting for TV maybe

Dubai guy is going to be so icky.

ladybirdsanchez · 26/05/2024 10:40

I presume it's part of the show , but why don't they stay in hotels together ?

Because that would be inappropriate and culturally insensitive and also maybe they can't afford it? None of them seem to have much money, apart from Veena, who appears to have a well-paid job. And her boyfriend is underage!!

As for Mr Dubai - well who knows? I suspect it's all smoke and mirrors and he's probably got a wife.

wizzywig · 26/05/2024 10:45

I haven't watched it. Is it like 90 day fiancé?

MarjorieStuartBaxter · 26/05/2024 10:53

Wow I can't get over the 17 year olds parents not strongly advising him not to go he's technically still a minor and I can't see how a 27 year old woman wants to be with a child!! And her family encouraging that shit, the other woman who went to the phillapines obviously created a fantasy in her own head and reality was far from what she hoped!
I did actually feel a bit bad for the guy she was being so off with him she's a bit strange tbh.

ladybirdsanchez · 26/05/2024 11:13

Wow I can't get over the 17 year olds parents not strongly advising him not to go he's technically still a minor

His DM said something about how until he started messaging Veena he was always in his bedroom and that being with her had made him happy/come out of himself, etc and if it didn't work out she'd be worried for his mental health. But no way would my 17-year-old be jumping on a flight to India on his own to go and visit a 26-year-old woman whose family is hell-bent on forcing him to marry her asap. I can't think that's going to help his mental health very much!!

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2024 15:07

I think Veena and Jay became friends first. But she should have kept it as just friends. Her family were awful and overbearing. Jay is so young and naive. That relationship is going nowhere.

Sarah just had a rather abrupt introduction to reality. She's like every other woman you hear about who falls in love with a man they've never met. It's an age old story. I never understand how they fall for these fake romances. I guess it's just a fantasy life that they enjoy and she should have kept it as just that. A fantasy. That's going nowhere as well. She said he kept touching her body when she was sleeping. Red flags all over this one.

Dubai guy is an obvious catfish. Probably married. Or unmarried but lots of 'baby mamas'.

Rekall · 26/05/2024 15:10

When veena found out jay had lied about his age when they were just friends how long did they stop talking for? And how long did they start talking again before they got together? I’m not sure it was mentioned?

Re The 17 y/o young man…..had that been a 17 y/o young woman going to visit a much older man, the other side of the world and being pressured to marry, then there would be an uproar.
this is essentially grooming a child.
its just awful
why is this ok?

Completely agree!

Pixilicious1 · 26/05/2024 17:24

Watching Jay and Veena made me very uncomfortable, he’s 17 and not mature enough to deal with that pressure from her and her family alone thousands of miles away from home. She seems to think marriage is on the cards - have they spoken about this I wonder?
Sarah looked absolutely crestfallen with Jgoy. And that’s another weird situation ‘I’m going for a shower, do you want to watch?’ All very creepy. And he and his friends were awful, like pathetic teenagers.

TheresNoFudgeHere · 27/05/2024 01:25

Watching it now - have to say the Veena and Jay pairing is very odd - the poor boy looked so out of place. He really does look so young too.
