Anyone else watching? I'm genuinely not sure what I think about what I've just watched 🤷🏻‍♀️ Would love to chew it over with others

Time is one of the most precious things we have.

If someone was so dismissive of my precious time and was continually late/left me waiting?

He’d be out on his arse.

It isn’t ok to do it again and again then sweep it away with a gesture or grand apology.

Just don’t do it in the first place.

Teentrauma · 01/06/2024 11:22

I was originally shocked at the 17 year old's parents letting him go to India, no way would I let a child of mine do that, I'd be worried sick! However, I guess it's a bit different given that he was accompanied by a Channel 4 camera crew so not completely alone. I wonder if they got paid to take part? Very uncomfortable viewing all the same.

Oh my God what did I just watch? A 26-year-old woman and her entire family GROOMING a 17-year-old boy! That was horrific to watch. Can you imagine Channel 4 broadcasting the same thing, but with a 17-year-old girl and a 26-year-old man from abroad???? FFS!

Agree, I'd be worried If I was his Mum, it's too much too young In my opinion. When he got a McDonald's 😆 I can't see any of the couples working sadly.

I agree with the grooming comment about Jay. The woman is too old for him and he was under a lot of pressure from her and her family about getting married. It was cringy and quite unsettling to watch. I hope he sees sense with the support of his parents. I'd be extremely worried if it were my son. I can't see any of the couples lasting unfortunately.

ladybirdsanchez · 01/06/2024 15:23

Just watched episode 3. I'm really glad Jay refused to be drawn on the whole marriage issue and basically kicked it into the long grass and said they needed to meet several more times first. I wonder if he'd been speaking to his parents and they'd managed to talk some sense into him?

As for Sarah and Jgoy - well he seemed less lecherous this time at least.

Dumebi needs to grow a spine and tell Mazi to bugger off. I find it really hard watching things where women behave like doormats. Have some self-respect!

secondspring · 01/06/2024 15:24

I have a 17 year old boy and it's not uncommon for them to spend a lot of time in their room . I would be concerned if mine was chatting to an older woman and no way would he be jetting off to the other side of the world. What were his parents thinking.

The C4 blurb said she was a catering assistant who lost her job during the pandemic.

I haven't and wouldn't be maliciously rude about Sarah. My comments are just reiteration of what has been featured on the program/said by Sarah herself (in reply to another poster who raised the challenge in finding a 'decent' date).

This is a forum where people chat candidly about TV, it's well moderated by forum administrators (they'll decide if any posts are rude).

So she should sue them for making a script which she read from? And she didn't consent to be filmed? What is the fake footage? I can't really understand what you're saying happened.

Did things with Jgoy work out for her?

Twonewcats · 01/06/2024 23:57

Re Jay and Veena, I'm surprised at how much he appeared to like her by the end of the week. She seemed to be so full-on that she was pushing him away completely (if only!)
She is just coming across as hugely desperate. He seems pretty mature for a schoolboy, but this relationship is just so so wrong.
I never ever complain officially about these things, but I'm definitely contacting ofcom on this one. Painting it as some sort of amazing love story is so irresponsible.

Twonewcats · 02/06/2024 00:13

Was just reading OK magazine's article on this. And...

The Nevermets Channel 4
SloaneStreetVandal · 02/06/2024 00:46

Lucy Mangan has penned a brief review in the guardian. It's typically tone deaf, she describes Veena as 'absolutely charming' 🙄 and makes NO reference to the immoral and controlling behaviour of Veena and her family (indeed the article veers towards taking the piss out of Jay's juvenility, and HIS family!). Mangan is condescending about his Mum, whom I thought came across as reasonable and respectful of her son - both Jay's parents seemed lovely.

When I was watching the program I kept noticing Veena's sad looking dog 😟 Sad I imagine because it seems to live its life tethered on a very short lead to their dining table (it was thus in every scene in her house). It felt somewhat symbolic.

In what way?

I witnessed something. I still do not even know what!!

I hope not. He seemed very lecherous and controlling. He made me feel very uncomfortable and sad for Sarah. I hope she is well and happy now.

Truetoself · 02/06/2024 13:35

Crazy programmer.

The 17 year old was amazingly nore mature than most me Veena's age I would say. But how ridiculous it is that the whole family were lressuring someone who is in the middle of his AL to marry? Very strange and not what I know of Indian culture. Maybe she is after entry to UK

WallaceinAnderland · 03/06/2024 15:20

I think Jay genuinely likes and gets on with Veena but she seems to be just pushing for marriage and a visa.

Under UK law Jay would need to be earning about 38k by next year to secure a marriage visa. So even if he wanted to, they couldn't get married for probably at least 5 years.

I suspect her family has plenty of money to allow them to meet the threshold, or they would push for him to move there.

WallaceinAnderland · 03/06/2024 19:25

It's not that simple @ShiftySandDune

They don't just show a bank balance, they have to prove a combined minimum income of 29k this year, rising to 38k next year.

TaraRhu · 03/06/2024 19:53

I think Veena is in for a big shock if she is only after a visa! Her family are clearly wealthy, probably more so than Jay's. Imagine going from a huge house to his bedroom in Bridgewater! What is she expecting!

That poor boy is just way too young. Anyone read seventeen by Joe Gibson? About 17 year old to married his teacher. Very sad.

I actually don't find jgoy that bad. His story about his mum made sense.

The Dubai guy is a complete player.

determinedtomakethiswork · 03/06/2024 23:24

No, her family wasn't wealthy. They live in her house. She said she owns the house.

I can't understand why she would be interested in him once she met him and she could see quite how young he was.
