Just found out that a spinoff to motherland is in the works. I'm sooo excited! One of my favourite shows ever. It's going to be based around Amanda's character, following her life after divorce.

I enjoyed the first episode. I won't say more until you've seen it but it was funny and sad

It's natural to think that, but let's give it a fair shot!

But they have Anne. They could have had all the kids going to a new secondary school and making new friends

did love the eco car alwwys being plugged in

So, there's another thread on this, but it looks more spoilery? Can we keep this thread to TV pace?

Once been shown on tv it’s fair game to discuss imo

Watched the first few episodes and I like it.

It’s getting excellent reviews.

Laughed out loud when Amanda told Georgie and Manus to “go find your people” at the new school. Georgie heads to the alternative, goth kids all dressed in black and she’s shouting “No! Not those people!”. 😂

The character Della makes me feel nervous for some reason.

Enjoyed the first episode but I did really miss Liz and Kevin! Maybe even missed Julia and her uncomfortable fake smiles!!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 07/02/2025 06:01

I didn’t love it have to say. Seems to be missing the other characters. Hopefully it will find its feet. Doesn’t really explain why Anne has moved to the same area either unless I missed it.

Anne was already living in the area, then Amanda turns up because she can’t afford to live in her old area. I guess it’s in keeping with Amanda’s air of confidence while deep down she lacks direction and follows others.

It gets better, episode 4 is really funny.

I didn’t mind it. It just felt that there were characters missing. You need more of a range, there needs to be someone you can identify with. In Motherland you could identify with different aspects of each character. There is nothing likeable about Amanda, and Ann is annoying.

Also, that’s not how charging electric cars works.

BakeOffRewatch · 07/02/2025 17:34

Oh I did a no spoilers tv pace thread a la @Blondeshavemorefun , a poster kindly pointed out “Another thread?” 😆 So I’ve found you here. Will check in on both threads. I’m watching it tv pace too. The first episode was great. www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/5268532-amandaland-series-1-tv-pace-no-spoilers

I think this is it. I can see a bit of myself in both liz and Julia at times. And even Ann in some of the motherland episodes. It helps if you can identify which characters are like people you meet at school. But I don’t think I could say that about any of the amandaland characters. Although I was ok, I will still watch the whole series

Boxerdor · 07/02/2025 18:30

I started off very unsure and not too impressed on episodes one and two but really enjoyed it by the end, especially the last few episodes.

unsure where Anne’s little kids are though?!

Puygo · 07/02/2025 18:59

I think Amanda’s mum is my favourite character

Ah bless you

Freespirit44 · 07/02/2025 22:08

I've seen the first episode and enjoyed it. It's never going to be on par with motherland but it's good enough in it's own right. The only thing missing for me is Kevin. He was my favourite character.
Lucy punch does a good job of making you dislike and feel sorry for her at the same time and at just the right amount.
The actress who plays Anne is incredibly beautiful imo

Will see how the rest of the episodes go.

I enjoyed it but Anna MM is it for me, Motherlandwise. The repressed rage! The desperate juggling of a professional career! The useless lump of a husband who did just enough to not divorce him and his useless coffin-dodging parents! Such an amazing actress and actually, incredible physical performance.

Amandaland was OK, but I most enjoyed the excuse for a rewatch.

I like Amanda and Joanna Lumley is perfect as her mum, Anne is brilliant too but I am finding it hard to warm to the new characters.

Anyotherdude · 08/02/2025 09:53

I’m looking forward to watching it - I’ve loved Lucy Punch ever since she played Sally Peep in The 10th Kingdom (which is definitely worth a watch and I can’t understand why it isn’t ever mentioned!)

RabbitsRock · 08/02/2025 10:02

Lucy Punch & Joanna Lumley look so alike.

I think Amanda’s mum is my favourite character

Her one liners are brilliant let me in darling. It smells like bus out here.

sunbum · 08/02/2025 10:11

i just watched it all and thought it was brilliant. The balancing between dislike and feeling sorry for her they nailed. It was also v funny and well observed.esp the helping secondary kids with maths!

I also liked how they showed that despute her vanity and silliness she is actually a good mother and wants to do the right thing for the kids. That didnt really.come through on Motherland for me and is generally true of even the most pretentious school parents.

I think i actually may have enjoyed it more than Motherland.

Where were Anne's husband and loads of kids apart drom Darius though?

MonkeyTennis34 · 08/02/2025 11:53

Loving this new series!

The one liners are brilliant...Mummy, she's not your PA, she's your carer.

All the cast are fantastic.

BrenFurlong · 08/02/2025 12:21

I thought this was going to be disappointing as Motherland was so brilliant, so I watched it with some intrepidation, and was relieved that it was funny and familiar but fresh at the same time. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

duc748 · 08/02/2025 15:10

Did any of you guys watch Bloods? Lucy Punch was great in that. I don't think it got a lot of love, but I thought it was pretty funny. And I love Jane Horrocks.
