Amandaland to replace motherland!

Just found out that a spinoff to motherland is in the works. I'm sooo excited! One of my favourite shows ever. It's going to be based around Amanda's character, following her life after divorce.

I love motherland. But this sounds like a mistake.

I think it sounds like a mistake too - Motherland works well because of the variety of characters and how they play off each other. A series with just any one of them does not sound great.

I'm really disappointed they're not carrying on with Motherland. I thought it was successful and would have another series or two still.

I too am disappointed that they’ve not recommissioned Motherland. I loved the variety of characters. A whole programme of Amanda may be a bit much, but I will give it a go.

I thought Amanda was a very exaggerated character, more a caricature really. Not sure I could watch a whole show about her unless they reign her in a bit.

Nooo I think it’ll be too dark or one dimensional. The depressing episodes were not why I watched. I mean ok it might still be good in its way, but it won’t be the fun of motherland.

I love her character! I really really hope Joanna Lumley is in it as her mother, that was comedy gold.

I will definitely watch it but would have loved more of the whole range of characters

Amanda and Kevin were my favourite characters so I'll be watching it. I love how she made you hate and feel sorry for her at the same time. Anne and Joanna Lumley will be in it. Hope Kevin is too!

I loved Motherland but think it ended at the right time. I think Amandaland is a really really bad idea.

They are trying to go it alone without Graham Linehan, by the looks of it. Rookie error. He's such a skillful writer.

OTOH, I think he's well off out of it, with his new career and phase of life.

Sharon Horgan says there’ll be new parents featured, so maybe it’ll be a bit ‘motherland-y’ rather than being the Amanda show, which would get very tedious quite quickly.

Ha Amandaland exists in the real world doesn’t it? Chiswick felt like Amandaland to me when I lived there years ago.

Oh good, her mother was awful to her. They can mine deep for material there.

I'm sceptical of spin-offs, but Sharon Horgan and Joanna Lumley being involved means I'm looking forward to it.

Multi dimensional Amanda could be goood! We've only seen one side of her in motherland, I'd give it a chance for sure,

I'm not sure about how funny it would be as personally I always found the Amanda character very sad. She obviously had very low self esteem caused by her awful mother, not a common thick seam of mirth.

I love Amanda and Anne but would be gutted to lose Kevin and Liz. Can take or leave Julia and Meg.
