Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

Absolutely loved it. Yes it's very silly but it's all part of the charm. Have watched all 4 episodes since 10pm last night 😂

I thought Lord Devling was lovely. I think it gave a glimpse into how difficult the "marriage mart" must have been for more sensitive men. Also loving the Francesca storyline (despite knowing how it all ends with John!) Just lovely representation of romance from an introverts perspective. When I realised DH and I fancied each other - he is autistic and socially awkward, I am less so but not an alpha personality by a long chalk - the most exciting moment was when we were playing rounders with some friends and he stopped at my base (2nd) and just said, "Hi." My heart was beating so fast. Ah, young love ❤️

I was so looking forward to this, and I haven't loved it as much as I'd hoped. There's something about Polin that isn't fully working for me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it's to do with the level of humiliation that poor Penelope undergoes. I found it excruciating, and the way it happened felt kind of far-fetched at times. Like the grass spiel - I was cringing at first, and then Lord Debling's reaction was hard to believe.

Elsewhere, I don't love the Lady Arnold romance (I'm a BIG Benedict/Luke T fan), and because I was so fixated on the love story developing I didn't give the Mondriches and Featheringtons enough of a chance, although they were great subplots. I did like Francesca and Lord Stirling - I thought their silence was moving. I like a less petulant Eloise, and the Cressida development is great. There is a lot going on, isn't there?

I remember not loving season 2 instantly and having similar feelings about the far fetchedness of some situations and also feeling almost too sorry for Kate at times. It then grew massively on me, so I will definitely rewatch and look forward to the second part. I think that there's something it's saying about a woman of that time enduring reversals but forging ahead to try and reclaim some happiness and shape her destiny, that is worth sticking at it for. I'm hoping for Lady W's sharpness and astuteness showing through in Pen a bit more.

virgocatlover · 18/05/2024 08:48

I'm not getting the love for Lord Debling. He wanted to go swanning around the world for years and years leaving his wife to run the estate alone, but he expects her to remain completely faithful without companionship while he does so. I think he targeted Pen because she was a wallflower so would be happy with even an absent marriage rather than nothing. He even admitted he didn't have any space in his life to love. He wanted a wife to run his estate for free and pop out an heir, while he goes searching for birds.

Apparently Lord Deb is dating prudence in real life! And here mum is Imelda Staunton??!!

I confess I just watched the carriage scene again!Grin It's so lovely, so well done.

I think they have great chemistry actually, totally believable. There's just something wonderful about two people who've been friends for years (with one loving the other more) finally working things out. What a love story.

When he finds her hemline and moves his hand ever so slowly upwards whilst looking into her eyes Blush 🥵

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 18/05/2024 09:12

I also LOVED the little snippet of Phillipa and Mr Finch when they finally figured out how to make a baby Grin she is looking beautiful this series.

Yes! And her dad is Carson the butler. And Benedict is with Philippa, apparently.

GreggsSteakBake · 18/05/2024 09:19

@flyingwingsabove No offence taken!

Chrysanthemum5 · 18/05/2024 09:20

Philippa is looking incredibile this series! They clearly did a good job of hiding her beauty in the previous two

😱😱

My mind was blown back when I found out Daphne was Sally Webster's daughter and now this?!

She's really striking out of costume. They did a brilliant job.

workshy46 · 17/05/2024 18:48

Its not the worst but there is zero chemistry. She should have tried to lose weight as the dresses and heaving cleavage just makes her look like a barrel
She isn't even sparky or funny to explain his attraction to her. She's pretty mean spirited and bitter

It that you Cressida!

Nicola looks stunning, she is a curvy girl and has embraced that. Good on her.

queenofarles · 18/05/2024 09:47

but that was the reality of a lot Marriages back then , it made no Difference wether the bride was pretty or not .
The majority of Bachelors were looking for Someone young enough to produce heirs , preferably with money or who could generate money.

back to the casting
Colin and Pen had zero chemistry , there was no build up , they went from being friends to him having raunchy dreams about her .

ExcitedButNervous0424 · 18/05/2024 09:58

Pen’s figure looked amazing in this Series!!!

I’d kill for a cleavage like that! 😂

bryceQ · 18/05/2024 10:01

I think Nicola is absolutely beautiful and I love seeing a different body type on screen. I've really enjoyed the series.

Obviously you have to suspend all reality about what regency England was actually like as women certainly weren't swanning off by themselves all the time! And the costumes are crazy but I love them!

It's such innocent easy watching.

Civilservant · 18/05/2024 10:21

Agree, didn’t feel sorry for handsome Lord D, he wanted to pop into the marriage fair, find someone to look after his estate (perhaps for social convention or to parent the DC?) while he went off for 3 years!

fourquenelles · 18/05/2024 10:47

What a feast for the eyes! The costumes, wigs, sets were absolutely gorgeous. I am going to watch it all again because I missed a lot of the plot whilst salivating over the dresses Grin

Chrysanthemum5 · 18/05/2024 10:47

I don't feel sorry for Lord D at all but I do hope Cressida marries him because I think an absent husband and freedom will suit her

Civilservant · 18/05/2024 10:47

yes, she needs out of her horrible family house and situation!

AnnunciataM · 18/05/2024 12:41

Who spotted Milly from This Life as the housekeeper at the Mondritches’ new home? And how gorgeous is Mrs Mondritch?

I enjoyed the first four episodes though I think the chemistry between Colin and Penelope wasn’t quite there until the carriage scene. It was very different last season as Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley just sizzled together.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 18/05/2024 12:44

I liked it over all. It meant to be unchallengiing fluff where one offspring gets to be centre of the story for one book/series.

One thing in episode one I didn't understand. If Lady Bridgerton had moved to the dower house, what would have happened with her minor children? Should they have gone too (historically), or do they get taken on by the Viscount and his wife?

I can see why women like Lady Danbury would have to create an elaborate persona if their husband died. She would need to be non-threatening enough for a man to leave her do do her silly little woman fancies, but strong enough to stop men deciding her wealth and title should be in the hands of others. I am so glad to be born now, even if full parity is a long way off. I can own property and vote!

sonjadog · 18/05/2024 12:45

The children would have gone to the dower house with her.

Knackerelli · 18/05/2024 13:20

I liked it! Yes it would have been nice to see Anthony, Kate and Daphne around for the close knit family vibe however it still works. Agree that Cressida’s costumes were very intricate and show stopping! A toned down Elouise is interesting too as I felt that she was getting a bit caricaturish in series 2. I like the setting up of Francesca’s story ( I’ve read lots of the books) and I’m looking forward to the next part.

Me. Couldn’t work out how I knew the face but it’s fallen into place with your post!

@hanka - I would love to see Luke Thompson as Benedict, think he is such a good Shakespearean actor ( well stage actor generally). He was really good as Laertes in the Andrew Scott Hamlet as well!
