Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

I haven't read any of the books.
I just finished the 4 episodes and decided I'd like Cressida to end up with the chap the queen chose for Francesca. Obvs Francesca needs to marry the quiet chap. Eloise can have the vegetarian and go traveling with him and be interested and educated. I liked him. Pen + Colin of course.

I thought Pen deserved better than a sweaty fiddle in the back of the carriage.

I'm a Benedict fan. He's a great big brother, he's funny and charming. I liked him more when he was an artist though. He seems a bit rudderless now, and I don't get the relationship with Lady Arnold at all.

virgocatlover · 21/05/2024 08:22

I've just been looking up the actor's real ages and shocked to see Claudia Jessie (Eloise) is 34 years old. I was sure she was in her early 20s!

Also, I don't think we've had "The Line" yet.

S1 Daphne to Simon: I burn for you
S2 Anthony to Kate: You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires
Queen Charlotte to George: George! I will stand with you between the heavens and the Earth. I will tell you where you are. Do you love me?

I'm looking forward to the line thus season

Is it not Colin - 'Dreaming of you when I’m asleep, and in fact preferring sleep because that is where I might find you.'?

I did think of that line @virgocatlover

It's good and very romantic, but it didn't quite hit that spot, for me.

I'll know it when i hear it, because I'll automatically turn to my BF and wail "Why can't you say things like that to me?!"

(The closest romantic line my bf has said is "Do you want to go upstairs and rub our naughty bits together?".
I need a new bf 😁)

hamsterno1 · 21/05/2024 10:46

I agree. The carriage scene was lovely but not enough angst behind it. That will definitely be in the second half.

I enjoyed the series but didn't really like Penelope or Colin, Penelope is two faced and Colin is probably riddled with syphilis from all his whoring.

I really liked the nature guy, he would be my perfect man 😁

The Queen annoyed me with her face like a smacked arse routine, she doesn't seem to have another expression now.

@Girliefriendlikespuppies haha I was trying to think last night who that expression of the Queen’s reminded me of, and now it’s hit me - Frankie Howerd!
Otherwise I like her very much - that wig with the swans got a gasp from me.

Does the Afterparty show talk about costume design? A few of Francesca and Eloise’s little jackets look very Chanel to me… would love to read an interview with the designers.

AnnunciataM · 21/05/2024 18:38

How did I not realise that the Bridgerton siblings are named in alphabetical order?? Though I’m not sure any of their names were popular in the Georgian era!

Am I the only one who doesn’t get the love for Benedict?

I would not turn him out of doors on a cold, dark night.

NarrowGate · 22/05/2024 07:57

Benedict is very, very handsome but I hated the boring sideplot with his latest shag.

The format of the show doesn’t really work any more, IMO. You get so invested in characters and relationships and then they disappear, but before you’re ready to embrace this season’s couple. Luke and Nicola have no chemistry whatsoever so I’m just not feeling it, Daphne and the Duke are gone, Kate and Anthony are almost gone, and the side couples are one big long yawn.

Such a shame, I was so excited for season 3.

Hannah Dodd/Francesca being 29 floored me, I thought she was a teenager and was finding the idea of her playing someone married off a bit uncomfortable.

cathyandclaire · 22/05/2024 09:48

I'm not sure that loads of focus on the couples that have had their happy ever afters adds much. I think Jonathan Bailey is amazing and enjoyed their season- but apart from sex scenes what else can they add now? It would just be more distracting side plots.
Having said that I do love the family scenes and the sibling interactions, so it's good when the married Bridgertons offer guidance and support, as Daphne did last season and I imagine Anthony might in Part 2 with the LW denouement.

Arraminta · 22/05/2024 11:15

I'm obsessed with the make up in this season, all the women's skin looks flawless with a pearl like sheen. How on Earth do the MUA achieve that look?

KomproMatilda · 22/05/2024 11:27

How on Earth do the MUA achieve that look?

Maybe they start with extremely wealthy actors who can afford the best and freshest food, personalised exercise plans, comfortable beds and thousands of pounds of the very latest beauty devices available at home or in a salon whenever required? 🤔Grin

I agree. Daphne and Anthony's stories were about their finding love, short of them falling out of love I can't see how else they'd be more involved. They are supporting characters now.

I am perplexed as to why they've split the series - I think it's contributing to viewer's dissatisfaction.

Good spot from a poster below of the Chanel boucle jackets.

PineappleTime · 22/05/2024 11:46

I don't find Penelope believable because the actress is too old. I know she looks younger than her age but she's late 30s and to me she looks it. Believing her as 21 (?) is impossible. Elouise looks that age and their friendship is wrong too. It's giving Jennifer ehle saying 'I'm not yet one and twenty' for me.

ETA I see Elouise is 30s too in real life but she actually looks early 20s.

NarrowGate · 16/05/2024 23:04

Last two episodes are so much better than the first two because of the humour and the dance, but overall I’m so disappointed. Too many characters, too much emphasis on boring characters, and a very underwhelming pair of main characters in whom I’m just not emotionally invested. What a wasted opportunity.

Got ti agree and I've watched twice.
Loved the first season.
But 'Queen Charlotte' series was brilliant.
I struggle with the chemistry between Colin and Pen.

FiloPasty · 22/05/2024 14:05

I loved it even better on second viewing. Agree that waiting for the 2nd half is just a pain the arse. Hopefully it’s just this series because of the whistle down crescendo and future series we’ll get the lot.

I suspect the camera filters are doing some extra heavy lifting this series

CaliforniaPoppies · 22/05/2024 14:19

Anyone else think Luke Newton has the look of a young Rick Astley?

I'm hoping for a classical rendition of Never Gonna Give You Up as Pen walks down the aisle 😂

pinkdays · 22/05/2024 17:46

Zero chemistry between Colin and Penelope.

Pipsquiggle · 22/05/2024 17:50

Just watched it over the last couple of evenings. OMG!!

Love that Colin and Pen have got together.

Doesn't anyone else find it weird that if you kiss someone you are effectively engaged and that they moved so swiftly from snogging to 3rd base?

What I am most loving is the string arrangements of 00s/teenies bangers - a highlight was Give Me Everything for the carriage scene

Pipsquiggle · 22/05/2024 17:56

pinkdays · 22/05/2024 17:46

Zero chemistry between Colin and Penelope.

Isn't it because they are friends first, so a slow burn, rather than a lust fest from the previous series.

Edited

I actually always thought Eloise looked much older.

Tonkerbea · 22/05/2024 20:32

Season 3 is a bit of a miss for me, there's no frisson between Colin and Penelope, and the filler storylines are meandering and boring. The costumes, music and Violet are my highlights.

The Kanthony chemistry was a hard act to follow.
