Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

Season 3 is a bit of a miss for me, there's no frisson between Colin and Penelope, and the filler storylines are meandering and boring. The costumes, music and Violet are my highlights.

The Kanthony chemistry was a hard act to follow.

Honestly, I don't think they're going to better the Kanthony chemistry. This season, when Anthony stole a kiss from Kate while they were dancing was just <chefs kiss>. He fucking devoured her with his eyes. I refuse to believe the actor is gay.

Just watched it over the last couple of evenings. OMG!!

Love that Colin and Pen have got together.

Doesn't anyone else find it weird that if you kiss someone you are effectively engaged and that they moved so swiftly from snogging to 3rd base?

What I am most loving is the string arrangements of 00s/teenies bangers - a highlight was Give Me Everything for the carriage scene

Yeah they really went from friends to fingering in like 45 seconds. May as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb I suppose Grin

hamsterno1 · 22/05/2024 23:32

It was a bit weird for me and didn't feel right.

In the book there is definitely more breast action which feels more appropriate to 'first encounter'

Maybe I'm behind the (regency) times but it was quite the escalation.

Even to the point where he used his 'clean' fingers to straighten her dress

LaceyLou82 · 23/05/2024 07:15

Well that was ahem interesting, I can’t imagine Pen would be up for fingering so quickly. But fair play to the lass.

😂brilliant.

I think I love you.
from friends to fingering in like 45 seconds - classic

TBH, that sums up my life in the 90s 😁

I don't find Penelope believable because the actress is too old. I know she looks younger than her age but she's late 30s and to me she looks it. Believing her as 21 (?) is impossible. Elouise looks that age and their friendship is wrong too. It's giving Jennifer ehle saying 'I'm not yet one and twenty' for me.

ETA I see Elouise is 30s too in real life but she actually looks early 20s.

Edited

I’d tend to agree- Coughlan definitely looks very youthful for her age, but playing 16 years younger was always going to be pushing it.

Combined with this, the actor who plays Colin is just too boyish looking for me to believe that they are peers in age and maturity- I had a lot of trouble actually envisaging them as a couple.

If Colin had been played by someone more like Jonathan Bailey or Luke Thompson, I’d have found their pairing much more believable.

I'm obsessed with the make up in this season, all the women's skin looks flawless with a pearl like sheen. How on Earth do the MUA achieve that look?

I'm the same , it's like their skin has a gloss instead of a highlight on it

Oh my sweet baby Jesus - it's been a while since I've been propositioned with finger-banging

Err.....ummm. ....under Bridgerton rules does that mean you and I are now married @Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes ?

😁

Honestly though why not? I was a late bloomer and once I got the opportunity for a good finger banging I was all over it and the rest . Just because a woman hasn't had sex yet doesn't mean she's not a horny minx 😆 isn't the character meant to be about 20/21? And she's fancied Colin forever? If I were her I'd be taking the chance while it presented itself TBH.

🤣 "friends to fingering" has a ring to it, doesn't it?

Okki · 23/05/2024 16:46

I feel like there's a bit of character age confusion in the series. In the books, they were both so much older, so whilst their book relationship has been more or less reflected, it doesn't always seem quite right with the younger characters they are now playing.

Damnyourheadshoulderskneesandtoes · 23/05/2024 16:57

To be fair in the books she does think sod it I'm going for it and I think the song choice reflects that too. The books really really help because you get into the male characters heads in a way you can't in the show.

Wonder what will happen in the next episodes.

He'll find out she's LW & they split?

Don't really know what the point of Derbling was.

Did Colin really have to see that someone else was interested in her before realising that he was.

Hope he doesn't marry Cressida.

They won't split. That's not in the spirit of Bridgerton (which is supposed to be a romance where everything ends happily) and the author has said she doesn't mind the story being changed as long as the couples stay the same. Colin and Pen are end game in the books, that won't change.

Yes she is supposed to be 28 in the book and Colin is 5 years older.

They won't split.

I meant temporarily.

Just wondering how they are going to fill 4 more eps!

If you like a holiday read 100%. I’ll read anything really but there is something great about mindless fluff :) I’m also really excited for future series too, hopefully increase in book sales will make sure they do the full 8 seasons. I really like Hyacinths book too.

Newgirls · 27/05/2024 09:05

I think the chemistry is ok as they were friends?

anyone else a bit surprised at how casual the prostitution is? Do the older women never comment on it?

saltysquid · 27/05/2024 13:56

With regards to the prostitution, we are now watching it with modern eyes which makes it seem icky.
However, a man in those times could not have sex with an unmarried lady unless she was a wiling widow, someone’s wife or a prostitute(which would have been using a brothel or setting up a mistress if you had enough money). So realistically if a man was unmarried and wanted sex, I presume the vast majority would use prostitutes or paid for sex.
The whole situation was problematic for women in particular as they were so dependent on men for everything. A gentlewoman couldn’t earn money and was wholly dependent on their father/brother/husband. At best maybe they could be a companion or governess. Women of lower social class worked. Even actresses often had a protector as they wouldn’t have earned enough money. The reality is most woman of the Bridgerton class married for money.
Regency novels are romanticised and I love reading them myself but they are definitely not reality and when reality does creep in modern audiences don’t like it!
