Both Dads I think.

Its Nessa's dad's name and Smithy's actual name. They argue when Ness gives birth to NTB that it's traditional in Nessa's family to name the baby after its grandparent (Nessa's dad) and in Smithey's to name the baby after its dad (Smithy). Luckily they are both called Neil, even though Pam thought Smithey's real name was Colin! 😂.

But if it's traditional in Smithy's family to call the baby after his Dad then Smithy's Dad must also be called Neil.

Pretty sure he was.

Fabulous!

After three seasons of Fat Friends (had enough) I’ve moved on to Stella - which is sweet and lovely - and here’s Neil Kinnock sermonising at a funeral! So cool. Now I’ll have to watch the final season of Fat Friends just to see if Ruth Jones managed to squeeze a Labour MP into the story.

Does anyone remember that Neil the baby got through to the sing off rounds of the Voice a few years ago. When they turned he said he was in the show. I hope he gets a few record deals he was fab singing blackbird

Me too

I read somewhere he is pursuing so find rather then acting

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2024 17:01

The wedding scene kinda reminds me of 4weddings and a funeral when Gavin started to say something

When the deaf brother says I don't think you love her. You love someone else

You’re right. The similarity is striking now you mention it.

the80sweregreat · 29/12/2024 17:19

Oh yes: Stacey asked Dawn n Pete to look after her three. Jason was on the coach of course.
I always felt sorry for ' Duck face ' in Four weddings .. she really loved Charles ( Hugh Grant )

I didn't think Sonia was that awful - I mean she wasn't nice but her main thing was that she just didn't fit with their tribe.
As different as the Essex and Barry lot were from each other, they both had a lot of acceptance of each other's quirks and they just 'fit'. Sonia was the outsider, the 'normal' person, who wouldn't 'get' Nessa giving everyone a tap for Christmas.

Agree!

Ruth Jones didn't write Fat Friends though. That was Kay Mellor.

GodRestYouMerryGentlewench · 29/12/2024 18:17

True … So … If I get to the end and there’s no Labour MP - I’ll just shrug my shoulders. If there is, I’ll assume RJ persuaded KM to magic one up.

🤷‍♀️

I've always wondered how they managed to get round all the name dropping that nessa did

Didn't she say she shagged Richard from r&judy

Plus all the other affairs /relationships she had

the80sweregreat · 29/12/2024 18:45

Maybe Ruth jones and James Cordon have to ask permission to use real people's names ?
I've no idea, but surely you can't just name drop without some kind of clearance first ? Be interesting to find out.
Jackie Collins often used real celeb names in her novels , but she had to ask first and not write anything libelous or inappropriate about them. I read this years ago , but then she probably knew them anyway?
It was funny when the late John Prescott showed up at the wedding. At least he was a good sport

Yeah she said they made love for hours whilst judy was pissed or words to thar affect 🤣

Surely they wouldn't have to ask because it's quite obviously fictional. Nobody could claim it was libel or slander because there's zero pretence it's true. It's not like a stand-up act which might make a joke about someone but could be construed as dropping a hint about something true.

Mylittlebobble · 29/12/2024 19:18

MrsPeterHarris · 29/12/2024 17:24

Agree!

On second watch I didn't find Sonia as bad too. The wrong shoes chat at the alter did seem nasty initially, but on second watch I had more empathy for her. He didn't attend the suit fitting she'd arranged, and then turned up at the wedding in different shoes to the ones she'd sorted out for him. If he'd tried them on in plenty of time, he would have known they pinched and could have got correct size or whatever. Appearance were obviously important to her so why not respect that? So not so much as a pantomime baddie, as others have said, but a stressed uptight bride on her wedding day who wasn't listened to. I'm invested in Sonia's story and want a spin off! Picking up the pieces after being dumped at the alter!

That's exactly it - there's a word for it that I can't remember..... basically means something is so obviously not real that it couldn't possibly be true (plus it's fiction!!)

Richard says I can go there but Judy won't have it, not after what happened last time. What is was Pam, I was their nanny back in the day. They'd get back from a morning's work, Judy would be straight on the whisky and Richard and I would make love, sometimes for hours. And then he'd do his Ali GGrin

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2024 20:16

Yep. Slanderous

Richard and Judy both strike me as people with a sense of humour. I remember years ago seeing Alistair McGowan interviewed on their show after he'd made a whole segment of his impressions show about them and they found it hilarious, so I think they'd be fine about their name check. Richard would probably take It as an unnecessary boost to his ego too.

TheHallmarkedMan · 29/12/2024 20:37

"And then he'd do his Ali G"

🤣🤣🤣. All said with her deadpan delivery.

Don't be silly. A fictional character within a clearly fictional world saying something is not slander.

GellerYeller · 29/12/2024 20:56

I think Richard interviewed a Nessa lookalike the other day on GMTV and took it in good humour when it was referenced…

MrsPeterHarris · 29/12/2024 20:57

I'd love that too @Mylittlebobble
