I don't think that Pam meant it really , she was just ' thinking out loud' a fantasy of sorts
Mick is under her feet more now , it can becone suffocating! She'd be devastated if he did die unexpectedly, they clearly adore each other really

She been to view one of the flats...Pam depends on Mick but she has no filter sometimes.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 09:45

I'd love to afford Brentwood prices

My mum used to go and view new houses all the time out of nosiness. Don’t we all have a look on Rightmove and imagine ourselves living somewhere else?

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 09:53

Maybe Pam is thinking of the future ?
Downsize , free up some money for the grand kids and so on?

Wonkypictureframe · 28/12/2024 09:54

I think it was just meant to be funny. And we all know that despite it all she’d fall to pieces without Mick.

commonground · 28/12/2024 09:56

I liked that they completed the story and I thought the vibe was more hearfelt than hilarious.

The big revelation was NtheB. They really lucked out with that choice of baby! The pride Nessa/Ruth and Smithy/Corden showed for him was... 'genuine'. It really was and just made the whole thing. Excellent.

Stuff I wasn't so keen on: I felt Bryn had lost his sense of wonder and was just too much the angry side of tense. It kind of took the focus away a bit for me and made me wonder just what had been going on with him and suddenly I was thinking more about his story!

Anna M-Martin as the presider of the ceremony was an odd choice I felt because she is so well-known for other stuff, so I'm not sure this was the place for a 'guest appearance'. It kind of took me out of the story (brill as she is). It's a shame they couldn't have the 'sandwich' vicar, but I guess he may no longer be with us?

Also Julia Davies botox. I'm v wary to judge, but it looked really uncomfortable and chunky. I cannot believe Pamelar would not have inadvertently made some mention of it (after a few wines maybe).

Phew. On the whole though, it was tidy. And lush.

The Neil the Baby actor was an incredibly lucky choice. I wonder how many babies were auditioned . I wish him well in his future career - the song was beautiful.

A pp poster mentioned Harri being possibly named Harold Shipman.
Many of them are named after serial killers.
Stacey West
Gavin Shipman
Pete(r) Sutcliffe

That was known right from the first series...

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 28/12/2024 10:06

I also loved that they kept the cars the same.

Yes, it’s mentioned at the wedding.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 10:08

Neil the baby was fab.
I bet Pam has mentioned the Botox to Dawn before now .. maybe in a covert way , but it must have come up. A bit like when Dawn mentioned that Pete had changed his look.
I don't have a problem with those who have fillers or face lifts though , I just wish I could afford a few myself! Maybe not as drastic as her ones, but just a little boost. I don't consider myself as vain either, but it must have more positive effects on your esteem than negative ones if it's done properly. Bit like hair dye to cover the grey does or a new face cream

dollybird · 28/12/2024 10:09

I just thought of another thing that we never found out what happened. What did Jean do with the scissors that upset Gwen so much???

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 10:13

Were the scissors mentioned during the christening or Nessa's aborted wedding to Dave ? Can't remember now.

SabreIsMyFave · 28/12/2024 10:13

@the80sweregreat The young actor who plays Neil (the baby) at 16/17 now, is actually a professional singer now. He was interviewed recently and said this is his chosen path now. He was good wasn't he?! 😃

Oscar Hartland he is. I THINK he is the same boy who has always played Neil (the baby,) and was in the 2008 and 2019 Christmas specials... Smile

DappledThings · 28/12/2024 10:16

Why would fictional character Pamela make a comment about real person Julia's awful botox? I think we can safely assume Julia chose to do that for herself rather than being told to by the writers and it would ludicrously rude for the writers to then take advantage of her (Julia's) bad decision and mock her for for it by writing it into Dawn's character.

It was Gwen's surprise birthday party (the barn dance) when the scissors were mentioned (S2), but I don't think I heard Jean mentioned ever again

commonground · 28/12/2024 10:26

Yes, I just meant with the botox thing that actually, it's something that Dawn might well do and I did wonder if it was actually make-up? But then Pam would have mentioned it if so.

I think I mean, when something takes you out of the story, (I always think that with Nicole Kidman, it's the first thing you notice and it reminds you of her personal choices, rather than that of her character)

But then, the same disbelief could be levelled at Corden - he is way more famous (and disliked it seems!) now then when he first played Smithy, so the story is already suspended a bit because of that.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 10:26

The Welsh contingent do tend to bear a grudge ! lol

Wonkypictureframe · 28/12/2024 10:28

Julia Davis was on Rob Brydon’s podcast a while back and unrecognisable in the clips. The fillers have actually settled down quite a lot since then. My first comment when Dawn first appeared was ‘thank goodness she looks more like herself’. So it’s all relative.

Twonewcats · 28/12/2024 10:32

Wintersgirl · 28/12/2024 10:04

I didn't say it wasn't. 🤔

HotCrossBunplease · 28/12/2024 11:21

Fillers are temporary though aren’t they? I can well believe the actress deciding to go a bit OTT with them to get in character.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2024 11:25

I can see Dave coaches and Gwen together , even if it's only temporary!
She needs to mother people and cook for them ( even if it's mostly eggs) and probably feels a bit lonely at times. Bryn doesn't have much conversation and the grandkids are growing up.
She knows him too , rather than some random from internet dating or the local pub.
Probably makes her feel young again and they can go out in his coach.

The actor who plays the vicar was interviewed on the news recently but he was the Barry vicar and Smithy and Sonia were to be married in Essex. I suppose he could have married Smithy and Nessa but that would have taken away from the fact it was supposed to be a lowkey register office do

madamtav · 28/12/2024 12:29

I thought it was interesting that both Barry weddings early in the series were church weddings but this one there was a fancy hotel wedding and a low key registry office wedding- another reflection on how much society has changed over 17 years. See also the decline of the night club.

I also thought it was interesting that Sonia was such a pantomime villain but her and her friends had the correct "woke" opinions about not "objectifying men" on the hen do. I know A LOT of people like that nowadays.
