The BBC will tell us that it is going to be the absolutely the funniest thing on TV..ever..and it will be mildly funny.

So much this!

StillYourFavouriteRegret · 03/05/2024 18:27

Guys can we give it up with critiquing womens' sizes? What has that got to do with anything?!

LizzieBennett73 · 03/05/2024 18:39

I'm not sure about this.... the last one left me feeling a bit cheated somehow.

I think there's a lot to be said in knowing when to stop a good thing.

PurpleJustice · 03/05/2024 18:53

I'm excited to watch, but I hope they don't ruin it.

It's almost impossible to get everything wrapped up in one episode. The characters have all grown up and it wouldn't make sense to have them all behaving in the same way, it will feel forced. But on the other hand there is no time to develop the characters or introduce new people in one episode.

I'll be there watching regardless!

flapjackfairy · 03/05/2024 19:54

@StarsHideYourFir3s
Yes she has filled out as she has got older like most of us. And good for her that she embraces it and refuses to apologise for it . I wish I had her confidence.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2024 14:11

Gavin and Stacey will either be getting divorced or they'll have 10 kids by now. I did see Stacey on tv very recently and she looked rather like Charlie Dimmock now. I hope she is herself and doesn't go on a massive diet and plastic surgery binge for the show.

Edited

Why on earth would she Confused she's a beautiful woman.

flapjackfairy · 04/05/2024 09:10

@fatphalange
I agree. I have always thought Joanna Page stunning myself.

Can't wait! I'm a super fan. The 2019 special was good but with a few cringe moments ‘sexy time, the taps, Smithys girlfriend’ and the tropes were nostalgic so needed to be there.

I'm hoping for this...

Nice big house in Barry with a sea view, lovely Christmas setting, everyone arriving Xmas eve. Comments about how the nice the house is, posh etc. Hints that it's Smithy and Nessa then Pam and Mick open the door and they're relocated to Barry.

Cuts to Nessa and Bryn rehearsing a Xmas duet in his living room and Neil the Baby as a teen telling them he's woken them up! Bryn hints that the house isn't his anymore. Maybe he's in a relationship. Daves coaches puts in a cameo dropping some people off and him and Nessa have a laugh.

Back to Pam and Micks. Mick trying the latest turkey recipe, Dawn and Pete arrive. Foreshadowing that Smithy has got a surprise in store! Hints that Covid slowed things down.

Moves into a Xmas wedding of Smithy & Nessa, 5 years after the proposal. Lots of fun references, Deano/Budgie etc there all older and wiser or maybe not and some tender loving moments too. A happy ending with Xmas songs 🙏

buttnut · 04/05/2024 14:22

Oh yeah the last episode/proposal was Christmas 2019 so literally about 3 months before Covid kicked off. I wonder whether they will make any references to the pandemic.

I would love this

commonground · 04/05/2024 16:37

^^that is a fun suggestion - I love the idea of Pam and Mick moving to Barry.

But you haven't mentioned Gavin and Stacey....I actually think that, despite the other characters probably having the best lines and being funnier, G&S are really the heart of the show.

I think they tried to get that back in the last Xmas special by having them revisit the 'I love you' spot, but it kind of fell flat because we just wanted the catchphrases to keep coming. It was like, there's only an hour, so just cram in the Pam-isms.

If they end with Nessa and Smithy's story, I think the whole point of the show is lost. Hopefully they will play a blinder and it will be lush.

diddl · 04/05/2024 19:51

Won't S&G be grandparents by now??

I thought that Nessa proposing ruined the last one.

Seemed to be totally out of character.

Fuelledbylatte · 04/05/2024 20:04

Bryn has to have a ninja air fryer!!

flapjackfairy · 04/05/2024 20:05

surely the kids wouldn't be old enough to give them grandkids. I think someone said baby Neil would be about 15 so Gavin and Stacey would have 3 younger than that.

chosenone · 04/05/2024 20:09

Hmmm yes, I'm not sure what I'd like to see for Gavin&Stavey 🤔 a surprise pregnancy? A promotion? A lottery win?

I think you have nailed it - I would love all of this!

ChessieFL · 04/05/2024 20:19

Assuming the original series took place in real time their eldest would have been born in 2010 so would be 14 now - not exactly grandparent territory yet!

True.

I was thinking that they had kids in their 20s & must be about 50 now!

I disagree. I think, despite the name of the show, Nessa and Smithy were central.

Yes this Smithy and Nessa were the front and centre ofG&S

SagaNorensPorche · 04/05/2024 22:07

I can't wait. Despite not really liking the main characters G&S, I really like Joanna Page - she has the best smile ever. Never took to the Gavin actor in anything he's done tbh. Can't stand James Cordon but love smithy. Like lots of sitcoms though, it's all about the supporting cast and I hope they bring everyone back.

MercyDulb0ttle · 04/05/2024 22:26

I really want it I pick up immediately where it left off last time.

Smithy torn between marrying Nessa and staying with Whatserface, the horrible one. Because being with someone like Whatserface is what he aspires to, but Nessa is the love of his life. And I hope he tells her that at some point.

But they can’t do that because Neil the Baby’s actor is 5 years older.

Rosieleerose · 05/05/2024 00:33

I really hope that they don't kill any characters off like they did in Motherland.
