Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

I agree the rot set in around Phelan time. He was an awful character and he stayed far too long (and ruined Eileen).

I'm watching Classic but am weeks behind - Mike is still alive! I loved the new Baldwins, great characters and the plotting was so good.

Modern Corrie has had all that stripped out of it, even previously good characters are let down by terrible plots. And as you say @ImNotThereAmI there is no heart or atmosphere to it, every set is sparsely populated and there are no casual interactions. And I don't think we've seen inside t'Kabin since Covid.

Really, no Kabin? Who runs it nowadays or has it basically just disappeared?

Shellingbynight · 13/03/2025 09:07

t'Kabin has just disappeared, it is never seen. I think Brian runs it, but who knows 🤷‍♀️. One of the main sets nowadays is the police station (which is nothing like the Classic police station Sally visited recently, it's another flatpack set).

Maureen Lipman wanted to be part time so Evelyn is now an occasional character.

OCaledonia · 13/03/2025 09:10

I can't remember how the Becky storyline pans out, either.
I don't watch the current Corrie for the reasons you've all been expressing, I miss the humour, too.

OCaledonia · 13/03/2025 09:12

God those dodgy haircuts.
I watch Countdown and Rachel Riley took a four week break and her replacement Dr Tom has that awful hairstyle. I'll take a photo later and share it here.
He obviously thinks he's down wiv the kids (or something) he has a lip piercing, too.

UrsulasHerbBag · 13/03/2025 10:40

I’m so glad Lloyd has seen through Becky. I can’t remember how it pans out either poor poor Kelly and now they know she was in prison too.

ImNotThereAmI · 13/03/2025 10:53

Blimey, it says something about a soap if a police station is a regular set

JewelleryCat · 13/03/2025 16:03

Norris made a remarkable recovery. He was limping and in bandages in yesterdays episode

I think he got caught out over-egging his injury. It was a sprained wrist. His legs were fine.

Really? I thought he had a sprained ankle as well as his wrist. That’s why he needed Rita to help him on and off the toilet etc

@SabreIsMyFave spot on!
I still record the modern episodes, if I can be bothered to watch I fast forward through loads of it.
Can you imagine a storyline with any of the current actors about an umbrella, like we saw yesterday with Rita and Emily? More likely it would be a murder weapon, a who-dunnit lasting 6 months, 38 suspects and 68 flashbacks.
I'd love another Blanche character, with her Polish hip and sharp tongue, just the right side of vicious 😜
Evelyn was close, is she coming back?

When Rita told Emily that Archie is very dry and Emily responded he would be, he’s got my umbrella.

One of the scenes I most remember from when I started classic Corrie was Bet on some sort of treadmill in cycling shorts, American tan tights with a cig on the go in a cigarette holder - chatting to those sitting round the table in the back room of the Rovers. It used to be so funny

UrsulasHerbBag · 14/03/2025 08:53

@tourist I used to have that image as my profile pic on my old phone! Julie Goodyear/Bett Lynch was an absolute icon!

Bet used to get some cracking lines
I remember her saying to Alec ( I think) do you think I came floating down the Irwell on a punnet of strawberries 🤣

😆 Yeah that was funny! Dry, clever, silly, funny humour. An argument (albeit trivial one) about a umbrella was silly but believable and - people do argue over daft things! Me and DH LOLd when Emily said that about Archie having her umbrella! The whole umbrella saga, and 'extremely injured' Norris were funny. He is just a whiny curmudgeon playing on his 'injuries...' 😆

The whole saga around environmental health visiting the cafe was real too, and yes, an ordinary everyday person's experience. Not like the experiences the people have now in current Corrie. (Gangsters, murderers, borstal boys, every bloody week!) Only thing I questioned was would the issue with Environment Health have been sorted so quickly and easily...? I don't know as I don't know enough about it really...

Poor Gail, being bombarded by these weird cards, and the street just nosing at her and judging her. This used to happen in some streets and cul de sacs. Tittle tattle and gossip (still happens a bit in my village a bit!) And it was real and authentic. Which is what a soap opera is meant to be. As I said, nothing in current Corrie is real anymore.

And yes, as has been said, LOL at the dreadful pan pudding haircuts that the young men/lads have, and I also don't remember Becky being so evil. I am glad Lloyd saw through her too. I really like Lloyd, and think Craig Charles is a good actor. But some days, all I see is Lister from Red Dwarf! 😆

I miss Bet too. She was a proper Corrie icon!

I really love the partnership and humour between Lloyd and Steve, they clearly enjoyed themselves and probably get on really well in real life.

Yeah I thought that too. Smile They have good chemistry. Steve and Tim are a bit like that now, but I always enjoyed Steve and Lloyd together.

I'd prefer to live on classic Corrie than nowadays Corrie. I like Craig, the the dynamic with the Websters.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/03/2025 15:15

Is there a way to watch classic Corrie on the itv hub? I'm loving watching but can't always come straight home from the school run and put the telly on 😭

I tried before and couldn't find it

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/03/2025 15:19

There's a reason I have always vehemently disliked David but don't know when it started 😄

Is he the one sending letters to Gail?

And is josh not Ashley's bio son? Don't remember that

UrsulasHerbBag · 14/03/2025 15:26

Josh is Dr Matts biological son. David may or not be involved in the terrorising of Gail I can’t remember but he was a vile little swine at this time. If you go on itv hub press search and type classic coronation street it brings them all up for you.

From Google:

Yes, you can watch classic episodes of "Coronation Street" on ITVX. You can find them under the "Classic Coronation Street" collection.

Here's how you can find and watch them:

Go to ITVX: Navigate to the ITVX website or app.

Search for "Classic Coronation Street": Type the name into the search bar.

Browse the Collection: You should find a collection or section dedicated to classic episodes.

Select an Episode: Choose the episode you want to watch.

You could also get a recorder box. We have a Freesat one. Smile We record Current Corrie and Classic Corrie, then watch it later on (so we can cut out all the breaks.) We do it with anything that has ad breaks to be honest.

Yes it’s there on ITVx. I usually record it but have watched on there as well. If you search for Classic CS and select latest episodes you should find it

😭 sorry for being dense everyone

When I search, it only brings up one episode per season, rather than the two episodes shown daily on itv3
