Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

Thanks @SabreIsMyFave I knew she wore a wig but just thought it was part of her character. It was a naff wig so could have been very irritating for her.

FeltCarrot · 24/10/2024 16:43

She used to have such lovely shiny hair too.

Can anyone tell me what series number this classic Corrie is please.

Not sure what's going on with my itvx app, it's just a whole list of series numbers and I can't find the current episodes that are on itv3 2.30 and 3 o'clock every week day.

Usually when I go on the itvx todays episodes are just there with no searching.

I’m having to go out of itvx and back onto it. Really irritating !

Was that Jean from Eastenders as Barry’s wife??

Yes!

SabreIsMyFave · 25/10/2024 21:35

I noticed Jean Slater from Eastenders too! Stacey's mother! (Actress Gillian Wright.)

Also Barry the Plumber, was played by Richard Ridings - who was in most episodes of Fat Friends, Season 3 of Auf Wiedersehen Pet, and Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life. And he voices Daddy Pig in Peppa Pig! (And he's been in loads and loads more things over the past 40 years.)

Also, he's the father of pop/folk singer Freya Ridings. Another nepo-baby! We were talking about nepos on the current Corrie thread, as the lad who plays Sam is the son of one of the directors on Corrie!

Kirk ,saying he spotted Jimmy Saville!
I'm surprised they didn't cut those scenes!

My DH said exactly that. That scumbag's name was mentioned several times by Kirk.

Exactly they even went over to the photographer to confirm wether it was him or not
I'm not usually precious but in view of his crimes and the fact he's been deleted on BBC programmes etc I really think those scenes should have been cut ,they have cut other scenes for far far less

ImNotThereAmI · 30/10/2024 21:10

Well today was full of drama but I’m not really clear why Shelley what she did. When do you think she decided?

I think she realised at the last minute she couldn't go through with it ,before that she waa focused on reaching her targets
But it's open to interpretation
Personally i don't think shelley would deliberately humiliate someone but who knows either way it was a good episode

Yeah that shocked me too, that those scenes weren't cut. Shock

According to what she said when Charlie came to visit, (after the non-wedding!) she decided before the wedding that she was going to say no. Probably not long before though. Probably the day before.

So bizarre. The Savile lines not being cut and now Status Quo punching Les to the ground. Why on earth would they agree to that?
RIP Rick Parfitt.

MatchingBedding · 31/10/2024 16:28

Perhaps the high stress storylines with Shelley, Leanne and Danny plus the Jamie’s drunk mum made the writers think they needed light relief? The ridiculous football mascot thing too. The Jimmy Saville stuff should have been removed, they put warnings on a lot of the storylines where Hayley was outed as a transwoman.

OnTheBoardwalk · 31/10/2024 22:13

The Jimmy Saville scenes could have very easily been cut. I mean we getting viewer warnings for smoking scenes but not Jimmy Saville ones

GailPlattsDeadHusband · 01/11/2024 11:18

Violets necklace is just awful

TennisWithDeborah · 02/11/2024 13:27

Some retro Christmas eps have been made available on ITVX. I’ve just watched the 1961 one, with a very young Ken, along with Elsie, Ena, Len etc etc. Might save the rest for December 🌲

Have they? I bet they’re good to watch

Getupat8amnow · 17/11/2024 15:40

This thread has gone very quiet.

anotherpain · 17/11/2024 16:27

I was thinking the same too, very quiet here at the moment.

x2boys · 17/11/2024 16:46

Tbf ,it's all a bit meh at the moment.

TennisWithDeborah · 17/11/2024 16:57

I’m about ten days behind. Just watched the mascot nonsense with Martin Platt - boring, and unlikely that an hospital nurse would have time for that carryon, although I do like the actress who plays the PE teacher. Sean Wilson can’t seem to generate the chemistry he had with Helen Worth with anyone else, though.

The Christmas eps on ITVX are great, especially the early ones, three of which I’d never watched. I’d never seen Ernest Bishop or Mr Walker before even though they’d obviously been mentioned over the years, so it was interesting to see these characters. Wonderful to see old favourites like Alf and Alec. And very young looking Deirdre and Ken.

Hilda’s farewell Christmas ep is one of the best ever I think.

SabreIsMyFave · 17/11/2024 17:35

Yeah it is a bit quiet on this thread isn't it? Shock

Can't think of much happening really ...

Cilla and Les are getting married and trying to poach stuff off people. Would Shelley really have given Cilla her wedding dress? They're not even friends! And Cilla and her pal stole a huge wedding cake off Diggory Compton. Like he isn't going to miss that! It was a couple of feet high!

Steve is with that woman with the large dark mole on her lip that he taken on as a taxi driver. I am already annoyed by her LOL! 😆

Martin and the woman he is seeing is an odd storyline. She liked him, and then suddenly randomly saw/heard about something he did in the past and ghosted him. Now they're on again! Weird! Confused

Not much going on apart from this. It's mid November there though, so it will be Christmas on Classic Corrie by early December. Smile

I LOVE the old Corrie Christmas episodes @TennisWithDeborah . Christmas Corrie brings back so many happy childhood memories. And yeah, the one with Hilda leaving was amazing. Smile I miss Corrie of old... 1990s and earlier. Classic Corrie (now 2005) is OK, but still not as good as it was. And the cracks are beginning to show with silly storylines coming in.

I think this (mid noughties) must have been when it started to go downhill a bit. It's had good periods over the past 20 years, but it's also had some crappy periods of time in it. And I don't want to take anything away from the 21st century Corrie stars, but the stars in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s were giants!
