Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?) Grin

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread. Smile

I’m not understanding the Charlie and Shelley storyline atm. Is she wanting plastic surgery to be more attractive to him?

I'm not sure?
I think she thinks it will give her more confidence?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 25/09/2024 14:12

I think he’s pushed her so far she’s clinging onto anything that might make her feel better. It’s a well written storyline, subtle in some ways, he looks charming to most outsiders.

I am so over the fish/Scooter storyline, that must have been the fastest police response time in history. No sooner had the woman said Colin phone the police sirens were heard in the background 🙄.

Ditto the fight storyline with Ashley and the other squeaky voiced butchers son, just stupid and not funny. I think this is when I started being able to take or leave Corrie in RL.

I was thinking this exact same thing.

The storyline with Scooter and the fish, dragging on for weeks and weeks, and the fight between Ashley and the other butcher's lad (who sounds a bit like Ashley,) are both stupid pointless storylines.

And I was also thinking earlier, is this where Corrie started to get daft storylines? (And started to go downhill a bit.) The 'save the fish' storyline' is plain stupid.

And Scooter is so pointless as a character. I can't remember him at ALL actually. Probably because he is just such a shit character.

nb; Corrie is still really good sometimes of course, but isn't as good as it was pre year 2000 IMO.

@SabreIsMyFave by chance a couple of scenes with Hilda Ogden have come up on my FB page ( probably as I watched something Corrie related) the acting and writing were superb in contrast with early noughties and today's offerings. No comparison.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/09/2024 19:57

I agree @Shimmyshimmycocobop The absolute legends from Corrie are the ones who came into it originally in the 20th century. Hilda was an absolute legend.

Yeah, pre-2000 was better. I’m still enjoying it at the moment though. I think I stopped watching in around 2016 having stuck with it for the last few years before that because of habit.

Still loving Bill Ward and Sally Lindsay - such a compelling storyline.

The butcher fight nonsense I could do without, much as I like Fred as a character, but I enjoyed Norris’ trick on Emily and Rita.

Scooter is a bit eager and nicey-nice like Todd was. I think he’s pretty convincing as Sarah’s boyfriend.

Urgh! Sport trumps everything doesn't it?! Hmm I recorded it while I was at work. (I'm hoping it recorded anyway!) Will watch later.

An eye lift I think Charlie said

SabreIsMyFave · 27/09/2024 22:43

Shelley didn't need an eye lift. WTF is a eye lift anyway?! Confused

This story is as daft (IMO) as Bethany in current Corrie having liposuction when she is about 3 ounces overweight.

I’m not sure what an eye lift is but I’m bored with Shelley being like this. I know it’s part of the storyline but I’m finding her so annoying, just in her room all the time

MatchingBedding · 28/09/2024 11:07

I am struggling with this part of the DV storyline. It doesn’t fit with Charlie’s pattern of control and feels very far fetched whereas the early part of the storyline was really believable. It may be part of his breaking down of her “self”. The dead cat, fish, boxing stuff is just silly and Jaimie’s Alchy mum is so over the top at this point too.

ImNotThereAmI · 02/10/2024 14:59

I hate Tracey and I hate Dierdre. Deirdre saying to Liz that she would have back Tracey up even if she has lied about Steve kidnapping Amy, because “she is her daughter”. Dierdre is such a bad mum, letting Tracey get away with literally anything. Steve could go to prison for child abduction!!

Allthehorsesintheworld · 02/10/2024 16:38

@ImNotThereAmI i thought the same. Would she back Tracey if she was supplying drugs or stealing? We used to have a running joke when I was at college about how many times Deirdre would say Tracey was upstairs with a colouring book in an episode.
Nice to see Patricia Brake, I used to live near her, very nice lady.

Or her tapes as she became a teenager 🤣

Yeah I agree. Shelley is ridiculous now. I am so bored with her. 🙄 And the whole storyline with her and Charlie (while it started off OK as a pp said,) is annoying and boring now.

And as @MatchingBedding said, some silly storylines are coming in now. Is this where it all started to go a little bit downhill? I don't remember silly, nonsensical storylines being around before now (2005.) The boxing/fight with Ashley and the other butcher lad, and Scooter and the fish, and Betty's dead cat, are all thoroughly silly and pointless storylines IMO. And as has been said, the one with Shelley and Charlie is getting annoying, and a bit ludicrous now.

The Shelley/Charlie storyline started out really well and realistic in terms of DV cohersive/control storyline. Now it is just ridiculous. I watched it when partner was in the room painting (he pretends he’s not interested but he’s immersed) and he said why the hasn’t Fred fired her? Charlie stamping around directing the staff, Shelley throwing drinks and creating chaos and not actually working.

tracey and Steve storyline is ridiculous too. Just tell Roy and Hayley that they can see Amy on his time and then wheel them in with the fake marriage and £10k she sold Amy for. I’m sure that the money was paid into her bank account and the wedding happened.

thenightsky · 05/10/2024 21:38

I don't mind the Shelly DV story. I can imagine it really would drag on in reality and people around her would become jaded and lose interest in helping her.

Oh I agree fed up of shelley and she's abusive too Bev
And yes Steve has plenty of evidence it was £25 grand the croppers paid her
She made them beleive Roy was the dad she palms little Amy off whenever it suits her and the whole street can vouch for that ,she's a nasty manipulative bitch
Whilst Steve was hardly Dad of the year at first since he's accepted Amy it's clear he adores her.

SabreIsMyFave · 06/10/2024 14:08

Yep, I agree ... The Tracey and Steve storyline is getting batshit too. There is so much evidence weighed against Tracey.

And as IF the judge would have given a restraining order to Steve to stay away from Tracey and Amy, just because Tracey dropped in on the judge, and said Steve had just threatened to take Amy.

Would she even be able to just burst in on the judge like that?! It had already been pretty much proven that Tracey's story of Steve trying to take Amy off in a plane was bollocks. No way would the judge have just written that restraining order IMO.

I wondered when the penny would drop that they were on that family fortunes type TV show and Steve was presented as Amy's father. When they won the car.
They were watching a TV quiz show in classic Corrie just last week and I thought oh, here we go.
