Classic Corrie Thread. Now in September 2004.

Continuing from the last thread when 2003 begins! Doesn't time fly in Classic Corrie? The last thread was started 10 months ago, and we have powered through a year and 8 months in that time (20 months.) Wonder where we will be by the end of this one? (If it does eventually come to an end?)

Karen (McDonald) has been stressing about the death of her mum - and trying to be a better person, Martin and Katie are still together, (though Katie's dad Tommy is unimpressed by it,) Kelly Crabtree has just come in, Cilla abandoned Chesney to go on holiday with Les, Sunita and Dev are together at last, and Maya is about to go on a rampage after appearing to forge Sunita's signature for something.

Also, Sean has just come in and started living with Eileen (still is I think!) Jason and Todd are still in it, and Danny Baldwin and his wife Frankie are in charge of Underworld now, with Daniel's 'Uncle Mike' taking lots more time off. Oh, and Danny's son Jamie has just arrived, followed by Frankie and Danny's son Warren...

Charlie the builder is dating Shelly the barmaid, and Sally has just recently started turning into a snob. Jack (Duckworth) was dressed as Ida Fagg posing as a woman for the bowls team, and Norris, Blanche, and Emily have been playing poker!

Roy and Hayley are still together, Ciaran the handsome Irish barman is trying to start up his own business with Penny King, Steve seems to be warming to his little daughter (baby Amy,) and at the moment, there doesn't seem to be much drama with Gail and Audrey's family, or the Barlows, or the Websters, or with Fred and Ashley. Ashley and Clare are dating, but it's still a bit up in the air.

Hope I haven't missed much out, but that covers most stuff going on right now I think. Let's see how much has changed by the end of this thread.

Yes, Sunita did tell Dev yesterday that she was pregnant.

Also @BrennieGirl I am having no issues on ITVX with Classic Corrie, but my recordings on ITV HD have not been recording this past week. I have had to cancel the series link, and set it to 'ITV plus one' instead.

Also Danny and Leanne 'at it' is making me want to puke. It's like a teenage girl shagging her dad. 😖 Leanne is around 24 right now - but looks 18-19 IMO, and Danny is 45 but looks 50. So the age gap looks much more than the 21 years it actually is.

Also, isn't Charlie absolutely foul?! Poor Shelley! 😢

I'm so confused about Charlie supporting Shelley (and appearing to believe her when she said she didn't contact her mum.) Then he just did a complete U turn, and turned on her!

@HeySummerWhereAreYou It’s the push me pull me of abuse. One minute she’s the best things since sliced bread, the next she’s done something wrong, he’s leaving, she crumbles, he comes back as the hero who takes her back. Rinse and repeat. All to wear her down, confuse her so she doesn’t trust anyone ir even anything she thinks.

Charlie’s vile but so well acted , this was before people talked about coercive control and mental abuse really so was ahead of it’s time in that respect.

Yep, keeping her on her toes, keeping her at arms length, calling her a big fat mess, blaming her for things she hasn't done, leaving her, and making her grateful he is 'giving her another chance,' when he comes back. Then when he groped her to have his way with her, and she said 'can we just cuddle please?' he forced himself on her. Saying 'prove to me that you love me.' 😖

Absolutely chilling. DH and I were like 😱 A man coercing a women into sex when she has said no.... There's a word for that!

Thank you. It was pretty chilling. It is horrible to watch, and horrible to think this kind of thing goes on.

I know a woman who was with a man exactly like Charlie. For about 10 years!!! Same treatment: gaslighting, manipulation, guilt-tripping, silent treatment, praising her occasionally (for being a good girl! ,) but then knocking her right down again, making her think she was always wrong, criticism of many things she did, isolating her from her family and friends, bashing of her weight - so much so she dropped to 8 stone (at 5 ft 8,) and also (sadly) physical violence.

Her family were elated when she plucked up the courage to leave him. For ages though, she painted him as a good guy. Everyone could see the relationship was horrific.

Partly, but Charlie has gaslit her and undermined her confidence so badly. She's scared and doesn't know how not to upset him.

Agree with @TealAndTurquoise I think it’s the “freeze” of the fight, flight, freeze response. Very well scripted, directed and acted.
On the cheerful side Brooke Vincent is hilarious as Sophie.

I like Helen Flanagan too. (As Rosie!) I have no idea why she left Corrie, but I wish they would bring her back! (She is is very pretty too!) 😍 Also, I do NOT remember her being a goth at all! Ever.

And LOL at Sally saying she is sick of supporting her and her Chucky outfit and pantomime make-up! 😆

Oh and I like Brooke too - as Sophie. Also a pretty girl. 😃

Roy turned 50 in 2005 according to t’internet. The actor David was a bit older. So I suppose his grandfather would’ve been 90-100.

I am finding the dead/stuffed cat storyline a bit stupid. Why has Sean got this poor (dead) cat? And why is he carrying it around pretending it's alive to trick people.

Also @TennisWithDeborah and @x2boys I agree it seems odd for Roy to have a grandfather. (Who only just died.) Roy looks/presents in his late 50s, (in 2005 where Classic Corrie is now.) So I would have thought it unlikely that he had a grandad then. Then again, as has been said, the grandad could be in his late 90s.

I only realised a couple of nights ago that Frankie is played by Debra Stephenson the impressionist on Dead Ringers and other programmes. 🤦‍♀️

Yes I think she got her big break on Spitting Image as a teen. Very talented.

She’s done a few impressions on Corrie.

I remember Debra Stephenson doing Margaret Thatcher impressions on That's Life when she was about 11.

I agree about the simultaneous silly comedy storylines. I wonder if it was because of the hugely impactful domestic violence story line?

I am so over the fish/Scooter storyline, that must have been the fastest police response time in history. No sooner had the woman said Colin phone the police sirens were heard in the background 🙄.

Ditto the fight storyline with Ashley and the other squeaky voiced butchers son, just stupid and not funny. I think this is when I started being able to take or leave Corrie in RL.

I don't really see the point in the nice but dim Scooter tbh.
