What I don't get is, why is Yolande OK about reporting to the Church officials but not to the police?!? Surely even she can think they may close ranks to protect one of their own and cover it all up 🤦‍♀️

lazymum99 · 07/05/2024 19:31

I would have thought that the church is forced to report to the police anyway

Southeastdweller · 07/05/2024 19:35

Did I miss a bit where Yolande told Elaine to tell Patrick about the assault? If not then that part of the episode was strange.

She would be too mortified she couldn't say the words outloud she couldn't stand them asking her intimate private questions about what he did.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 20:08

I've just finished watching it, was so good and really emotional wasn't it?

It was done during the phone call. Then she passed the phone to Patrick

I thought she had said it on yesterday's episode? Maybe not.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 20:17

I appreciated what she said about him picking on older women.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 20:21

Oh appreciate isn't the right word I meant I understand what was meant.

Aquarius1234 · 07/05/2024 20:46

If Yolande is around late 60s?
How old is the Pastor supposed to be?
I do roll my eyes a bit with Patrick he's about 85 and still up for it all the time..

If the stenn is the end of the Whitney storyline I'm all for it!

Patrick isn't the most sensitive is he, bullying Yolande to try to get her to 'snap out of it' then decides she has dementia and bullies her about that. It would suit the pastor to suggest a mental health issue so that anything she accuses him of won't be believed, but she hasn't got dementia, so what then. I'm glad this is all going to come out soon.

I don’t think Patrick was particularly insensitive, he had no idea what was going on, he just felt something was wrong and Yolande insisted everything was fine. He couldn’t have known that she had been assaulted.
I did think it was strange that after her conversation with Jean she decided the best solution to bring the family together was to get Jordan baptised though, especially choosing Pastor Clayton’s church. I thought she’d suggest the C of E church with the nice vicar who was helpful when Lola died, not Pastor Clayton’s church.

Re: tonight’s episode, it was really well done and I love the connection between Patrick and Yolande. I hadn’t been sure of this storyline but I like that for once, the victim was well supported by the people she confided in (Elaine and Patrick) and they believed her. I particularly like how humble Patrick was and how he accepted Yolanda’s story without gaslighting her. I remember that earlier, Denzel had noticed something between the Pastor and Yolande (I think this was before Patrick went away), I wonder if he will be told/find out what has happened and how he will react to finding out the Pastor was grooming Yolande and then assaulted her the way he did.

Viewer23 · 07/05/2024 21:00

I also like the way Elaine and Patrick gave power back to Yolande by allowing her to take things at her own pace.

Viewer23 · 07/05/2024 21:04

I will be interested to see how the gossipy ladies in the church react, will they close ranks or support Yolande? Particularly given how they treated what they thought was ‘inappropriate behaviour’ before. I also wonder how the Pastor’s wife will respond and if she is aware of her husband’s ‘indiscretions’ (to put it lightly).

Viewer23 · 07/05/2024 21:06

On an unrelated note, I like Phil as the paterfamilias of the Mitchell family and how protective he’s been of Billy.

Yeah it has been well written and I love yolandes inner strength.

I tried to find out the pastors age there isn't anything I think he is in his late 40s early 50s? I do think his wife is younger than him though.

Viewer23 · 07/05/2024 21:12

I also think he must be late 40s early 50s. The assaults go back many years as well. Maybe he is late 40s and his wife is early 40s? To be honest, prior to this storyline I hadn’t thought he was much younger than Yolande because I didn’t think he looked that young. Although I guess Yolande looks young for her age.

Mrsjayy · 07/05/2024 21:14

I thought he was in his 60s to be fair he looks older but I'm assuming he's meant to be younger.

Aquarius1234 · 07/05/2024 21:28

I'd guess early 50s. But could be older in real life.

lazymum99 · 07/05/2024 21:33

Yolanda is supposed to be 71 and the actress is 65. I think Patrick is mid 80s. He looks much younger.
I thought the pastor was mid 50s ish

Viewer23 · 07/05/2024 23:05

50s makes sense actually. I had never really thought of him as young before the assault.

Jeschara · 08/05/2024 00:14

Amazing episode, well acted and to me it was very plausible. I am roughly the same age as the actress in real life and I got what she was saying and putting across.

I'm a bit younger but I can remember being told you couldn't "lead men on" be too friendly etc so i could definitely relate to what she was saying .

GloriousintheArctic · 08/05/2024 08:17

We’ll agree to disagree on that then viewer23.

Great acting last night but I’m not sure how I feel about the episode overall. The ‘Elaine tells Patrick over the phone’ device felt odd and clunky. Y’s speech about consent and me too was all true, but it sounded like something that occurred to the writers rather than to Yolande.

Re ages, Angela Wynter is 66 but Yolande’s age is unknown, I would guess in her 70s. So I'm the same age as AW but younger than Yolande! Y is obviously from a very religious family and I remember she said her father was very strict, so we had very different upbringings.

Yolande wants to tell the Church because she still believes they are a friendly entity and will put things right. Y does not know, as we do, that the Church has failed the victims multiple times before - but as she said to Patrick, ‘do you not read the news?’ So she must know in general that they protect their clerics.

We know the key will be finding other victims and hopefully the Church will at least provide the route to that - someone who has heard rumours previously. Levi seems a good man - well he does so far…

Arconialiving · 08/05/2024 08:24

I like Levi @GloriousintheArctic so hope he helps to bring the pastor down and becomes a more central character. There's so much they could do with the soup kitchen storyline & loads of new characters could be introduced.
