Welcome to the EE spoilers thread, where we post and talk about any EE spoilers we've read about, including those in early release episodes on iPlayer.

Link below to watch episodes on iPlayer - these are dropped at 6am on broadcast days - and you can also read brief synopses of upcoming episodes:

Cindy seemed very keen to get away last night.
Hints on Facebook that maybe the dad was linked to her disappearance and those people that were after her etc? They didn't seem too surprised to see her there did they ?
Why put George with them as a child if the dad is as racist as they are saying he is? Seems a bit strange ? Mind you , many EE plots are very daft or don't make any sense

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 09:01

Penny is only in a wheelchair because Jack was a bent copper back in the day and she was injured by something he did or didn't do , but not sure how old she was ( I think she was very young or a toddler , but might be wrong )
We have met penny's mum previously, but only for one episode and when Jack was with Ronnie Mitchell

people had a white saviour attirude they wanted to instill "better" (white) values into these "neglected" children.
is how i think the story is going to go.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 09:31

Ahh, plus not going down the legal route to adopt George meant it was all dodgy as well
I still think it might be linked to aunt babe and the carters ! ( but haven't seen any spoilers to this effect )

gingercat02 · 02/01/2024 10:53

Not watched Tuesday yet.
Penny was run over by a car at a bus stop by someone out to get Jack iirc.

George's Dad freaked Cindy out, but his mum seemed very fond of her. Weird, maybe gang related as pp said or maybe sexual as he kept going on about her being out of George's league.

Peter does like a ONS in his Dad's living room 🙈

Presumably, Whit will just disappear and not tell Zac about the baby, but that seems odd and unfair. He's a nice enough bloke now

usernother · 02/01/2024 10:55

Just watched today's. I hate Cindy. She's horrible.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 11:54

According to next weeks guide, Sam starts asking Zac awkward questions so must tie in into Whitney leaving I guess

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 12:11

I'd say that George is out of Cindy's league myself , but then I never liked the Cindy character at all previously or now tbh
Her and Ian B deserve each other

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 14:00

Poor Elaine today and the dad character and Penny are both annoying me already ! Only been in it for two episodes as well
Must be a record

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 14:40

Poor George , although he should tell Elaine the truth and the dad is being horrible to Gina as well
I hope they don't hang around too much! Although the mum seems alright.
I did read that Cindy helps him to trace his real parents. I suppose they might rock up too!
I remember Cora ( Tanya's mum) finding her daughter who was mixed heritage and she came to live in Walford leaving her nice teacher job and area behind to live a life of short misery with the Walford crowd ! She wasn't in it that long

Are they worse than Priya and Avani ? They annoyed me the moment mine eyes were subjected to them.
They have not grown on me at all

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2024 18:43

I don't mind Ravi's new family , but I'm sure I'll be bored of them soon enough once they get some proper storylines or start being annoying
Avani was quite funny the other day and seems to have made friends fairly quickly.

Fantasea · 02/01/2024 21:41

Poor Elaine, it must be hard for her to see that George still has feelings for Cindy.

VivienneDelacroix · 03/01/2024 02:44

Elaine has no empathy, belittles everyone's feelings and undermines their problems. I've no sympathy for her.

I actually gasped when George's dad made the comment comparing the two girls - clearly favouring the lighter skinned grand-daughter and also at him repeatedly calling George "boy". Well written and acted horrible, bigoted racist.

It's Eastenders. Everyone who moves there makes friends really quickly. I wish I lived there.

My husband is from the south east of England and they all call each other boy.

'Boy' is often used by older cockneys. My MIL
used to do it all the time. Sounds quite aggressive but it's not racist.

Mrsjayy · 03/01/2024 09:40

Billy Mitchell says boy when he is talking to Will doesn't he ?

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 09:46

My late fil called my dh and his grandsons ' boy' sometimes. It is an east end thing, but it does sound aggressive!

is how i think the story is going to go.

Channel 5 had a really good documentary about this with real life ‘George’s, there’s also a film called Farming about the topic and some of the people who experienced it have written about their experiences. They were basically private foster arrangements where the (often upper middle class) African parents paid for their children to be fostered by (often working class) white British families to enable the parents to work/complete their higher education in Britain before returning to their home countries. There were obviously cultural differences in terms of ideas of child rearing and naivety on the parts of the biological parents as to what the outcome would be for their children. The practice of ‘baby farming’ in Britain actually goes much further back to Victorian times, but the parents may not have been aware of the implications, attachment issues and how hard it might be to get their children back since they came from a different culture, as well as the racism the children might experience.

It’s interesting how the Eastenders plot highlights the different motivations of the foster parents and I see parallels between George’s parents and Whitney and Zack - George’s dad seems to have only tolerated the fostering and later adoption of George because of his wife, and he probably used the money they got to justify the ‘burden’ of taking on a black child as he is clearly racist. Similar to how Zack was conflicted on fostering, but for different reasons - because of his own experiences of being fostered, but he had similar reservations about raising a child who wasn’t ‘his blood’ (he said this in a previous episode) - which in a way is a similar impulse to the racial one but maybe not as extreme.

Do we not normally have a clue about where the thread sits re dates or number etc?

Just "Eastenders the spoilers thread" will be confusing

Should we ask @MNHQ to change the title to "Eastenders - Spoilers Jan 2024" ? or similar

Southeastdweller · 03/01/2024 12:29

I don’t know, is it needed? No other spoiler threads before have had dates in the titles.

You're overthinking this, in my view. I've always managed to keep up with current thread without need for any number or date.

NadiaCravensworth · 03/01/2024 13:03

meh ok - was just a thought

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2024 14:26

Todays one was sad for George , but he is keen on talking to Cindy rather than Elaine and that's a big old red flag even if he he told her where he had been etc.
At least penny owned up too
Honesty in EE is rare , yet they are all at it lately
