VIGIL S2 - bbc 1 9pm - sun mon Tue - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2023 17:33

This is tv paced !!!!

The highly-anticipated sequel will see DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) look into a dark conspiracy in the world of the British Air Force in a brand new investigation.

Following a string of suspicious fatalities the pair must enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer — and we can hardly wait!

An official synopsis from the BBC reads as follows...
"Following multiple deaths at a Scottish weapons test, Silva and Longacre are tasked with finding out the cause.

Entering the closed ranks of the air force in Scotland and the Middle East, the pair face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own uncertain future."

Creator Tom Edge had previously dropped a few hints that he would look for a different setting for the drama.

“We have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,” he told Radio Times (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-renewed-newsupdate/). “But some of the characters that we have developed as we’ve made it, they feel like characters that we’d love to burrow into. So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.”

I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre," said the show's creator Tom Edge in a BBC statement.

"I'm grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure. World Productions have built a fantastic reputation for twisting, turning thrillers and this one corkscrews with the best of them.”

With more than 10 million viewers tuning in to watch the first episode in the week following its release, it was the UK's most successful original drama since Bodyguard (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/bodyguard-season-2-cast-plot-and-all-we-know) launched in 2018.
Now creator Tom Edge has penned a second series, with Suranne Jones and Ro
se Leslie both returning, plus some exciting new stars. Here's everything we know so far...

Vigil season 2 will start on BBC One on Sunday 10 December on BBC One at 9 pm. Episode 2 will then air on Monday 11 December at 9 pm. And then the third on Tuesday evening.
Here's the complete release schedule:
6am Sunday 10 December – episodes one, two and three available on BBC iPlayer
9pm Sunday 10 December – episode one TX on BBC One
9pm Monday 11 December – episode two TX on BBC One
9pm Tuesday 12 December – episode three TX on BBC One

I assume Kirsten passed out in the car and someone found her on the road

Phone she left as ran for her life so not shot

Maybe all went to ICloud or google pics as mine does

I said this in ee when suki /Ravi killed his dad

He deleted it on the phone but didn't think of deleting it on other devices

I assumed it would be something like that, but that must make the pregnancy much higher risk, mustn't it?

Pebble21uk · 20/12/2023 18:42

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g It's generally seen as a standard and safe practice, which is also used by heterosexual couples don't forget - my niece is the result of egg donation.
With very little risk but the positive effect of having both mothers closely linked to the child it makes sense for some lesbians.

If you are thinking in terms of the body rejecting something foreign to it - well, all sperm is foreign... but the body is fine with it!

In terms of Vigil, I would think it's because they both want to have strong links to the baby but Kirsten being the younger (and that is very common in lesbian relationships where one partner is quite a bit younger than the other... my wife is 9 years younger than me) she is more likely to have a healthy pregnancy.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/12/2023 10:02

Plus amy has been preg / a mum so Kirsten's turn

OP posts:
TrashedSofa · 21/12/2023 10:05

Yeah, Suranne is visibly well into her 40s. It makes a lot of sense that the one who looks a decade younger would have the baby.

Pebble21uk · 21/12/2023 10:19

@Blondeshavemorefun Isn't Poppy her step-daughter?? I thought that was why she was living with grandparents after the accident?

lazymum99 · 21/12/2023 10:23

I also thought there was a car which went into the water. Poppy is not Amy’s daughter. Her father was killed in the car accident

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/12/2023 10:50

God yes. I had forgotten that

Why did r she want to stay with grandparents

Where is her mum

Vaguely R.E.M. the car crash

OP posts:
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/12/2023 14:44

Had the mum died? I think she must have done, but I can't remember. Amy was engaged to the dad. The three of them were out for a drive. Car went into the loch, can't remember why, but I'm sure it was an accident. Amy was able to get out and rescued Poppy but couldn't rescue the dad (he must have been unconscious) and he drowned. Amy was consumed with guilt for not being able to save both of them. She was not legal guardian of Poppy but in the end Poppy wanted to go and live with her (and Kirsten) in Glasgow instead of with the grandparents.

What viewers thought

I have enjoyed this more than anything else I have watched so far this Christmas, even though I agree with all the comments about accuracy etc. Binge watched it with my MIL and DD and it was something we could all watch and discuss ‘whodunnit’. Yes far fetched but has been a great escapism and I love watching anything with the gorgeous Scottish scenery

witte · 30/12/2023 16:44

That was genuinely terrible.

Fizbosshoes · 20/01/2024 16:01

Veeeery late to the party here (as usual!)
Have just watched the series over 3 days with DH and DD, and came here to see what everyone thought.

DH annoyingly (because half the time he seems to be napping or not paying attention) predicted Eliza and Grainger from about episode 2!

DD and me were constantly shouting at the TV when both Kirsten and Amy went into blatantly dangerous situations, alone, unarmed and not telling anyone where they were or what they were doing.
I have no experience of any of the army/police/prison etc but was surprised at the amount of personal phone calls and phone messages happening (and the crossover of personal/work phone calls between Amy and Kirsten)

Also felt sorry for Poppy, she barely seemed to be on their radar. Even when Kirsten was upset wanting Amy to come home sooner than she did, no one mentioned Poppy.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2024 18:40

Well done your dh @Fizbosshoes

Just finished watching. More holes than swiss cheese. And yes I was shouting at the TV when they were putting themselves in such dangerous situations.

I still enjoyed it. Just found it frustrating at times.

Sam Kader was a bit nice 😉

Looking forward to a (equally unrealistic) series 3 @Blondeshavemorefun 👏🏻

Just popping back onto this thread to say that I have had an availability request for work as an extra on Series 3 of Vigil which is starting filming shortly. Cannot give ANY details (because I don't know, not because I'm being coy) other than it's filming in Glasgow as the first 2 seasons were, and they were looking for people to be "protestors".

Unfortunately I have something on the day they are filming, but hopefully that will just be the first of many. Often present-day dramas like Vigil film weekends so they can use offices, schools or universities when they are otherwise empty. This was for a Saturday when we already have plans - it's always pretty short notice too. And even if you say yes you're available, they often don't pick you.

daffodilandtulip · 23/09/2025 21:49

Oh how exciting!

Mytattooisbiggerthanyours · 24/09/2025 15:07

How do you get to be an extra? Do you need an equity card?
