VIGIL S2 - bbc 1 9pm - sun mon Tue - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2023 17:33

This is tv paced !!!!

The highly-anticipated sequel will see DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) look into a dark conspiracy in the world of the British Air Force in a brand new investigation.

Following a string of suspicious fatalities the pair must enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer — and we can hardly wait!

An official synopsis from the BBC reads as follows...
"Following multiple deaths at a Scottish weapons test, Silva and Longacre are tasked with finding out the cause.

Entering the closed ranks of the air force in Scotland and the Middle East, the pair face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own uncertain future."

Creator Tom Edge had previously dropped a few hints that he would look for a different setting for the drama.

“We have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,” he told Radio Times (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-renewed-newsupdate/). “But some of the characters that we have developed as we’ve made it, they feel like characters that we’d love to burrow into. So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.”

I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre," said the show's creator Tom Edge in a BBC statement.

"I'm grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure. World Productions have built a fantastic reputation for twisting, turning thrillers and this one corkscrews with the best of them.”

With more than 10 million viewers tuning in to watch the first episode in the week following its release, it was the UK's most successful original drama since Bodyguard (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/bodyguard-season-2-cast-plot-and-all-we-know) launched in 2018.
Now creator Tom Edge has penned a second series, with Suranne Jones and Ro
se Leslie both returning, plus some exciting new stars. Here's everything we know so far...

Vigil season 2 will start on BBC One on Sunday 10 December on BBC One at 9 pm. Episode 2 will then air on Monday 11 December at 9 pm. And then the third on Tuesday evening.
Here's the complete release schedule:
6am Sunday 10 December – episodes one, two and three available on BBC iPlayer
9pm Sunday 10 December – episode one TX on BBC One
9pm Monday 11 December – episode two TX on BBC One
9pm Tuesday 12 December – episode three TX on BBC One

The safety and control systems for these weapons seem totally inadequate. I think there should have been more of a risk assessment.

Glad to see someone else thinking about risk assessment while watching TV!

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 10/12/2023 23:39

Why have they made up a place? Wudyan was v confusing for a while there. I kept on asking DH ‘but where the fuck is that?!’

RAFOfficer · 10/12/2023 23:45

Political reasons I imagine - people will make comparisons to various different real life places, but using a made up place prevents any actual diplomatic issues. Assuming they’ve also made up the British Air Force so that they can do stuff that would never happen in the RAF

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/12/2023 01:24

Enjoying this, apart from SJ and her gurning.

The constant references to the "British Air Force" is annoying though.

WeegieWan · 11/12/2023 02:43

I've always had a massive crush bit of a soft spot for Dougray Scott, but he didn't sit right in this for me. You'd think a bloke that far up the airforce command chain would have a bit more edge to him, be a bit more switched on and less like a lounge lizard. He was far too smooth, he didn't exactly exude command or even military bearing... and that oh-so-laid back way of giving orders, like he's asking for a skinny latte and a carrot cake muffin at his local coffeeshop - aargh!

I also can't believe those drones were able to withstand gunfire... Mind you in the last series I had trouble suspending my disbelief when Rose Leslie's character managed to keep a phone signal in the depths of the Clyde Tunnel!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/12/2023 02:55

Is anyone thinking the same as me

The man with the gun. Assume no 5 lol

So did he log in with Chapmans log in

And why didn't he kill the daughter

He can easily shoot/kill them with that sight/gun

Not sure how will escape

YireosDodeAver · 11/12/2023 05:02

The gunman is too obvious a culprit and won't be the actual solution. He will turn out to have beena Wudyani freedom fighter who is trying to unmask a conspiracy that he thinks Amy and Kirsten are a part of.

RAFOfficer · 11/12/2023 07:23

@WeegieWan he wouldn’t even have been there at that rank, he’d be in an HQ somewhere. I did miss the bit before the credits, but it was very weird to have a couple of Flying Officers and then seemingly just this random Air Vice Marshal. There’s 5 whole other ranks in between that are missing…

RockaLock · 11/12/2023 07:33

My first thought, when they came across the daughter and she hadn't been shot already, was that she's the culprit. Or has at least been groomed by the actual culprit(s). She didn't look too happy at the thought of leaving Wudyan for good.

(I will admit to having tried to find Wudyan on google maps last night. Duh).

SupportingArtist · 11/12/2023 07:40

RAFOfficer · 10/12/2023 21:21

I’m irritated already, we’re not allowed to wander about with our jackets undone in blues, and we don’t wear belts outside our jackets in greens!

I was an extra on this production back in May/June and one of the guys I worked with was ex-RAF and spent the whole day pointing out similar - wrong boots, no crease in trousers etc. You'd think they would have someone pointing out those minor issues which most people wouldn't notice but which would drive you nuts if you have worked in that area.

My "bit" has not been shown yet, and no, I didn't meet either Rose or Suranne. Catering was very good though!

dapsnotplimsolls · 11/12/2023 09:13

I have suspicions about the daughter too. I'm going to predict that in the last episode SJ will be running around a desert pursued by a drone!

RockaLock · 11/12/2023 09:52

@SupportingArtist please let us know which episode you're in, and we can all have a guess at who you are!

Maybe the minor details being wrong are intentional, like calling it the British Air Force - to distance it a bit from the actual RAF? Perhaps there are rules about not being allowed to 100% faithfully replicate the armed forces uniforms or something.

SupportingArtist · 11/12/2023 11:45

I am not sure which episode I am in and I don't think I can give ANY spoilers as you are never told how what you are doing fits into the overall story. It's not spoiler-y to say it was a hospital scene which we filmed at the University of the West of Scotland one Saturday, they train nurses and midwives there so have the full set up.

I think you might be onto something with not wanting comparisons with the real organisations, I was being a hospital patient and was given a wristband saying UK Health Service. The people being nurses/doctors had lanyards and ID badges with a made up "UK Health Service" logo - not NHS.

Pebble21uk · 11/12/2023 13:52

As a lesbian, what I love about this show is that the central character's sexuality is completely incidental to the plot... we need to see this so much more.

While some elements of the plot may stretch credulity (although I'm not complaining), their relationship, from what I have seen so far this season, is spot on!

RockaLock · 11/12/2023 14:00

I shall keep an eye on hospital patients in future episodes, @SupportingArtist !

oviedo · 11/12/2023 20:49

How Suranne Jones gets these parts is beyond me!
She's terrible in everything.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/12/2023 20:56

E2 about to start

Obv they won't get shot by the man

Checking in, first series was silly but enjoyable so I am back

RAFOfficer · 11/12/2023 21:19

I give up, there are too many irritating unbelievable things already

Agreed! It’s not submarine based (which I liked) it’s just some boring services based action drama.

Too confusing and too unbelievable. When I’m checking MN whilst watching this tells me I’m finding it boring!

I loved the first series but wasn’t it shown during the lockdowns when we couldn’t really go anywhere?

Goatymum · 11/12/2023 22:04

Much preferred the submarine version! Never liked SJ, but I like her partner - although like a 7-month pregnant woman would climb over a balcony like that (or even could!).

foxlover47 · 11/12/2023 22:11

Just finished the second , can't work out why but not really
Loving it. I love dougray scott though so will
Stick with it

ChocolateTVandbaby · 11/12/2023 22:19

I'm excited for this as I loved S1 but must admit the plot
doesnt seem as enticing as the submarine.

just starting ep 1 and wondering if I'll have trouble keeping up
