VIGIL S2 - bbc 1 9pm - sun mon Tue - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2023 17:33

This is tv paced !!!!

The highly-anticipated sequel will see DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) look into a dark conspiracy in the world of the British Air Force in a brand new investigation.

Following a string of suspicious fatalities the pair must enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer — and we can hardly wait!

An official synopsis from the BBC reads as follows...
"Following multiple deaths at a Scottish weapons test, Silva and Longacre are tasked with finding out the cause.

Entering the closed ranks of the air force in Scotland and the Middle East, the pair face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own uncertain future."

Creator Tom Edge had previously dropped a few hints that he would look for a different setting for the drama.

“We have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,” he told Radio Times (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-renewed-newsupdate/). “But some of the characters that we have developed as we’ve made it, they feel like characters that we’d love to burrow into. So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.”

I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre," said the show's creator Tom Edge in a BBC statement.

"I'm grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure. World Productions have built a fantastic reputation for twisting, turning thrillers and this one corkscrews with the best of them.”

With more than 10 million viewers tuning in to watch the first episode in the week following its release, it was the UK's most successful original drama since Bodyguard (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/bodyguard-season-2-cast-plot-and-all-we-know) launched in 2018.
Now creator Tom Edge has penned a second series, with Suranne Jones and Ro
se Leslie both returning, plus some exciting new stars. Here's everything we know so far...

Vigil season 2 will start on BBC One on Sunday 10 December on BBC One at 9 pm. Episode 2 will then air on Monday 11 December at 9 pm. And then the third on Tuesday evening.
Here's the complete release schedule:
6am Sunday 10 December – episodes one, two and three available on BBC iPlayer
9pm Sunday 10 December – episode one TX on BBC One
9pm Monday 11 December – episode two TX on BBC One
9pm Tuesday 12 December – episode three TX on BBC One

The safety and control systems for these weapons seem totally inadequate. I think there should have been more of a risk assessment.

Also, during the exercise I was thinking surely the control consoles for the drones have cameras in them so that there is monitoring and a record of the drone pilots' actions?

Then I think in the initial flurry of investigation there was mention of footage from a 'console camera' of one of the drone operators (not the one they initially thought had done it who got beaten up).

So surely they should have been able very quickly to eliminate the four pilots in the exercise from the investigation?

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 12/12/2023 08:38

I don't think Kirsten would have much choice about front line duties, surely at 7months pregnant she would be on lower risk duty, not running around climbing balconies.

I also don't buy that she'd be able to work in the same team as her partner. It raises so many issues. Surely one of them would have been transferred to another department or area. Most workplaces don't allow you to line manage your spouse due to the conflict of interest but in the police there are additional risks around safety etc.

Can someone catch me up about why Suranne Jones is unpopular with some and the references to gurning?

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2023 09:43

Literally watching e2 now

He could have easily shot /killed them with first shot. If not 2nd third and hit the tree

So why didn't he ?

@SupportingArtist catering was very good 😂

Tell us who you are when see yourself

The catering was great!! Lots of free tea and coffee, and lunch was from a food truck type thing with choice of two or three meals. I think i had salmon and some fancy veg, and pudding. This was a fairly small shoot with not huge numbers of "proper actors" so we all got the same. On bigger shoots with loads more extras, crew or "talent", they get different (better) food and the extras get fed but more basic meals like sausage and mash, or chicken goujons and chips.

RAFOfficer · 12/12/2023 10:10

I’m still 😱 at the MI5 guy just happily sharing ‘intelligence’ with random civilian police in a random interview room. And then Suranne Jones wandering around an overseas military base unescorted, with no ID, and being able to just walk into the middle of an operational mission and start interrupting the commander.

SupportingArtist · 12/12/2023 10:12

I think with a lot of these things you have to suspend your belief @RAFOfficer.

Pebble21uk · 12/12/2023 10:22

Apparently Rose Leslie was pregnant in RL when it was shot, so had to be written into the story. So I'm assuming she didn't do her own stunts!

The line manager thing doesn't surprise me... in the school I worked at the Head was married to one of the senior teachers / key stage leaders and those who worked under them had no recourse if they had a problem.

Bookist · 12/12/2023 10:26

My Dad was a retired RAF officer and TV military dramas used to infuriate him!

I just cannot believe that a heavily pregnant police officer would be allowed to accompany armed police on a raid? Surely her presence could compromise the mission because of her physical vulnerability? And climbing about on balconies is just stupid and dangerous, no real pregnant woman would jepordise her baby's safety like that.

And anyone else notice the MI5 chap's accent constantly changed from plummy Oxbridge to pure Cockney?

RAFOfficer · 12/12/2023 10:39

Yes, I’ve got to either stop taking it so seriously or just stop watching haven’t I? 😂 😂

Bookist · 12/12/2023 10:51

And very senior RAF officers driving themselves anywhere? Just no.

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2023 11:15

Yes heavily preg in real life. Obv had baby now. So they wrote baby into the storyline

Yes

Tv programs never get facts right whether medical like casualty and EASTENDERS

Or police detectives drama

Personally I just don’t find her a convincing actress. For me it’s Suranne Jones speaking lines, rather than a character on screen that I can buy into.

DuncinToffee · 12/12/2023 12:06

Definitely don't take it seriously Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2023 12:32

Not sure why so many dislike Suzanne

I like her. Whether dr foster or vigil or Scott and bailey

It's her hyper-exaggerated facial expressions. There's no subtlety to her acting style.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/12/2023 16:02

I like Suranne Jones. I seem to be in a tiny minority here.

Pebble21uk · 12/12/2023 16:05

I like her too... I think she plays feisty, independent women very well.

caramac04 · 12/12/2023 16:37

I’m not military and can see unrealistic stuff but can’t get over the drones not having recoil from firing.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/12/2023 16:54

DD told me this morning that a new season of Vigil had started so about to start watching.

I don't mind her.

I don't think there is a lot she can do with the script
