VIGIL S2 - bbc 1 9pm - sun mon Tue - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/12/2023 17:33

This is tv paced !!!!

The highly-anticipated sequel will see DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) and DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) look into a dark conspiracy in the world of the British Air Force in a brand new investigation.

Following a string of suspicious fatalities the pair must enter the secret world of drone warfare to catch a killer — and we can hardly wait!

An official synopsis from the BBC reads as follows...
"Following multiple deaths at a Scottish weapons test, Silva and Longacre are tasked with finding out the cause.

Entering the closed ranks of the air force in Scotland and the Middle East, the pair face the deadly warfare of tomorrow as they fight for their own uncertain future."

Creator Tom Edge had previously dropped a few hints that he would look for a different setting for the drama.

“We have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,” he told Radio Times (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-renewed-newsupdate/). “But some of the characters that we have developed as we’ve made it, they feel like characters that we’d love to burrow into. So if there’s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.”

I’m delighted that Suranne and Rose are returning to reprise their roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre," said the show's creator Tom Edge in a BBC statement.

"I'm grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to take them on a thrilling new adventure. World Productions have built a fantastic reputation for twisting, turning thrillers and this one corkscrews with the best of them.”

With more than 10 million viewers tuning in to watch the first episode in the week following its release, it was the UK's most successful original drama since Bodyguard (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/bodyguard-season-2-cast-plot-and-all-we-know) launched in 2018.
Now creator Tom Edge has penned a second series, with Suranne Jones and Ro
se Leslie both returning, plus some exciting new stars. Here's everything we know so far...

Vigil season 2 will start on BBC One on Sunday 10 December on BBC One at 9 pm. Episode 2 will then air on Monday 11 December at 9 pm. And then the third on Tuesday evening.
Here's the complete release schedule:
6am Sunday 10 December – episodes one, two and three available on BBC iPlayer
9pm Sunday 10 December – episode one TX on BBC One
9pm Monday 11 December – episode two TX on BBC One
9pm Tuesday 12 December – episode three TX on BBC One

I did think Eliza was dodgy from the start, when they did that scene whirling around her dramatically.

Yes & she was so evasive & hostile.

I think when it was said that the drone was flown from Wudyan it started leaning towards her.

But it wasn't until the plane with her injured & Wes dead that it really registered for me.

I always think of Death on the Nile!

LadyEloise1 · 20/12/2023 09:26

I agree with you @MidgeFragnets ".......glad something like this is out there on TV at the moment, especially with what is going on in the world."

Anyone else feel sorry for Poppy ?
Her Mum and Kirsten were so loved up. Who looked after her as her mother and stepmother were out fighting international terrorism ?

Why ?
Why did Eliza do it ?
Or Grainger ?

I missed the reporter at the end @Blondeshavemorefun. What did he say ?

Good call @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g you sussed it. 👏🏻

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2023 09:30

Yet the most stirring moment of this finale comes when Firas Zaman — the journalist caught spying on the weapons test in the first episode — arrives to deliver a victim impact statement. He lays out how the arms sales will continue to profit those in the UK while those in the Middle East suffer, in a comment that feels more prescient than ever.

LadyEloise1 · 20/12/2023 09:34

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun, I did see that and understood its prescience in relation to all that is happening in the world at the moment.

I thought perhaps I missed a reporter reporting it to the general public despite all the secrecy of the trial.

Any thoughts as to why Eliza did it ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2023 09:41

I think for the money and wanted them to find out and investigated

Hence 7 deaths not 1

Tho she won't get a chance to spend the money

So she Shot Wes in cold blood

OP posts:
lazymum99 · 20/12/2023 09:57

I don't think Eliza did it for the money. She said that to stop Amy asking for her reasons. I think both her and Grainger just wanted a ruddy big war to get involved in and to do their soldiering and feel important.

DuncinToffee · 20/12/2023 10:17

I kind of lost interest during those last 2 episodes so thanks for the recaps Smile

LadyEloise1 · 20/12/2023 10:30

So ultimately Eliza got no money. A lifetime in prison and a gammy leg for her trouble.
Crime doesn't pay.
Plus the deaths of many innocent people on her conscience.
Not that she'd have a conscience

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2023 11:15

Not often I'm right on things like this! I will admit it was based far more on thinking Dougray Scott and Romola Garai are quite big names, so perhaps will have more to do in later episodes than in the early ones.

Did I hear right that Kirsten's baby was conceived from Amy's egg (and donor sperm, obviously). Is that a common practice for lesbian couples? Must make things a lot more complicated for the pregnant woman.

TrashedSofa · 20/12/2023 11:30

Yeah, Dougray in particular. Romola's part was still fairly meaty even if it had turned out she wasn't in on it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2023 11:46

I enjoyed this, but there were so many things that really don't bear thinking about too much. How did the police know that Kirsten had been shot? Did anybody ever recover her phone? Why did she leave her phone on the rock? Do MI5 really have a substantial office in Glasgow? Would the police really leave two life partners working in the same team, with one line managing the other? And so on.

LadyEloise1 · 20/12/2023 11:52

Yes i wondered too how Kirsten was saved. Did anyone go back for her phone ?
I'm always putting my hands in my pockets - how did the MI5 guy not notice Amy's tracker ?

Disbelief did need to be suspended.

TrashedSofa · 20/12/2023 12:03

Yeah there were lots of gaps. It looked like maybe things had got lost in the edit. Very little about how they'd managed to get Sabiha to Britain either. Since she was a Wudyani who'd shot someone on Wudyani soil, that would've taken a bit of negotiating!

Forestdweller11 · 20/12/2023 12:16

I did enjoy this series. I did think they could have made a bit more of the claustrophobia - especially in the Hercules or on the base. Its the first series for absolutely ages I've not binged!. I think it helped that it was in 6 parts split into two rather than into 3.

There was a lot of holes, opportunities to suspend belief.

I was puzzled how Kirsten was rescued. Presume she had a radio or something in the car though maybe. And if she'd lost 20% of her blood then surely she would have been on some sort of blood drip when Amy got to see her (or did I miss that?) There was an awful lot of putting down of mobile phones just seconds prior to a walk into danger.

There wasn't much evidence of passport control across the whole series!..
I'm glad that the MI5 agent - Dan wasn't a baddy. I can see him in series 3 seconded to the team perhaps?

Firas's statement was a great finale.

Tallisker · 20/12/2023 13:23

They needed to be wearing more clothes on the Herc, they're bloomin freezing at altitude. Also, I doubt they would have been able to have a cosy chat, they're also very noisy!

The series gripped me, although the plot holes loomed large and believability got lost.

I remember Dougie Henshall and Dougray Scott being young interchangeable Scottish actors in the 80s/90s, but then DS went off to Hollywood and became quite a big star.

diddl · 20/12/2023 14:11

I'm always putting my hands in my pockets - how did the MI5 guy not notice Amy's tracker ?

Ikr!

That really made me roll my eyes.

I mean -sorry to stereotype but a woman might be more likely to have a bag for keys, phone etc.

Unless blokes use trouser pockets more than jacket pockets?

Pebble21uk · 20/12/2023 14:29

The MI5 guy did find the tracker... he held it up when he next saw Amy.

To the poster asking about Kirsten's baby being from a donor egg from Amy... yes that happens... so both parents can feel jointly involved in the process. I don't know how common it is but it's certainly a viable option.

Forestdweller11 · 20/12/2023 14:44

I think Amy put the tracker in a top pocket. And in my experience top pockets are for show. So not beyond the realms of possibility for him not to find it immediately

I call this the Midsomer Equation, whereby the most famous name in the guest cast list is what did it yer honour.

SupportingArtist · 20/12/2023 16:45

Spotted myself on screen. Very chuffed. Lots of the other people I was with that day were cut out. Really hope they make another series as it's good for Scottish jobs and work for us freelance extras!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/12/2023 16:49

Ooh, which scene were you in, @SupportingArtist? There were several hospital scenes, so I was wondering ...

Yes @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

As both are the involved

Amy as her egg

Then partner as birth mum

Means both can be put on birth certificate

Next time we see Dougray Scott we know he will be the baddie 😂
