Is anyone else looking forward to this? The first part of the final season is on Netflix from 16th November (four episodes), and the second part (six episodes) from 14th December.

I thought the previous series was a bit boring so I'm hoping for more drama this time round.

Me, I'm looking forward to it especially as I'm struggling to find much to engage me TV wise atm.
I loved the early series the most but like you hoping this one will be better than the last.

Borageandchips · 06/11/2023 17:37

Mixed feelings about it. I will watch it of course! But I don’t think that I’ve seen anyone portraying Diana, however good an actress, getting it quite right yet. And I find that a bit distracting.

But I’m of Diana’s generation so saw her in rl, and on tv and in the press, whereas I wasn’t exposed as much to Princess Margaret, and thought she was portrayed brilliantly.

80sMum · 06/11/2023 17:41

It feels far too recent to me. I might watch it, just for the sake of completeness. But I enjoyed the earlier series the most, the ones where the events took place before I was born or when I was too young to remember them.

Looking at that trailer photo of Diana and the two princes, it feels very current to me.

tigger1001 · 06/11/2023 17:42

I'm looking forward to it. More to see it to the end though.

I didnt enjoy the last series. For me it wasn't that it was boring, but I struggled with the cast. Series 1&2 were so well cast, 3 & 4 not quite as well, then season 5....

I also wondered, for me anyway, that as the series has gotten closer to current times, the same drama over certain events becomes harder as it's more likely we will remember them clearer, where as in the first series there was a lot that happened that i had to look up to see if it was based on real life as I was unaware.

Can't wait.

SiblingFights · 06/11/2023 21:26

Very much looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed watching it and am looking forward to the next series. I thought the actress playing Diana had her mannerisms off to a tee.

Pushkinini · 09/11/2023 15:24

I'm looking forward to it. That's the weekend after this one sorted!

MarkWithaC · 10/11/2023 15:44

Yes, in a qualified way. The Crown is always good; acting, production values etc.
But I did love the early seasons in a way I haven't the more recent ones. Maybe the period of Princess Margaret in Dior, and the young and dashing Philip (I thought Matt Smith was a revelation), is just a more glamorous one? The Diana stuff seems a bit miserable by contrast. (and yes I know she WAS miserable because of her treatment, but you know what I mean!)

Can't wait!

I agree. I remember the Diana years very well so it didn't feel "new".

Absolutely cannot wait!

I know what you mean, those early seasons had more of an escapist feel than the later ones. Also, Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby were such a marvellous trio, which made it hard for their successors to live up to.

Have loved this series. Can’t wait to watch again. It’s been done so well. Agree casting has had some weak points but the acting and costumes , sets - spot on.

EasterMummie · 14/11/2023 09:10

Looking forward to it, although agree with people who preferred the earlier series as it was more unfamiliar.
Can't decide whether to save up all the episodes for December or watch the first 4 sooner....

Edinlassy · 14/11/2023 13:00

Seen lots of it being filmed so excited to see it on screen

CJ7 · 14/11/2023 13:11

Yes I can't wait. Actually you've made me happy as I thought it was just one episode in November and one in December.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 14/11/2023 13:14

Yes! Definitely looking forward to it.
I've enjoyed watching all of it so far.

SagaNorensPorche · 14/11/2023 13:19

Hope the link works for anyone that's interested - it's a pre-final season recap that was on The Crown insta.

I can't wait!

cyclamenqueen · 14/11/2023 13:36

I’m not sure , I probably will watch but will hate myself for watching . I am the same generation as Diana, without giving too much detail I knew people who knew her well and also know people who worked for her . It all just feels a bit too voyeuristic and a bit painful . Some of the last series was in very poor taste; the episode about poor Leonora Knatchbull in particular was dreadful and I gave up for a few months at that point, only watching some of the later episodes when dh wanted to catch up. It worries me that so many people think that The Crowns version of events is the truth.

That said, I loved the first few series , Vanessa Kirby was amazing as Princess Margaret and the sets and costumes were perfection. I just think they should probably have stopped in 1977.

1975wasthebest · 15/11/2023 07:59

Think I may take one day’s annual leave tomorrow to get going on it as I’m working at the weekend. I quite like the idea it’s all split in two parts as it prolongs the (hopeful) enjoyment, but the cynic in me wonders if Netflix have done this to get people who’d planned to subscribe for one month especially to watch the final season to sign up for one more…

4 and 6 is an uneven division of episodes but perhaps they wanted to get the Diana years over with in part 1 and there'll be a significant time jump for part 2. I don't even know what year it's rumoured to end at - Charles and Camilla's wedding or William and Kate's?

I think I read it doesn't go much beyond Kate and William meeting, so presumably it just covers C and C's wedding?
