I couldn't see a thread about this, so have started one. Hope it is not a duplicate.

Have found it more and more saccharine but love the scenery.

And love reading comments.

Any one thinking of watching?

I love it!

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2023 22:06

I'm watching now on +1

It really should be on on a Sunday evening

littlefireseverywhere · 05/10/2023 22:16

I’m recording this, love the series, pleased it’s on again

Clawdy · 05/10/2023 22:17

It was all a bit sweet, but just what I needed to watch! The Wesley Binks story with the happy ending was just right.

justasking111 · 06/10/2023 00:11

Perfect start to the series

LIZS · 06/10/2023 08:13

The continuity was a bit annoying. No snow at the tower where he caught up with Wesley yet snow on surrounding hilltops and thick on ground at the farm? Tristan's absence was evident in the tone as well as physically.

justasking111 · 06/10/2023 09:32

Think the snow scene was photo shopped. Yorkshire had very little snow last winter

JaneJeffer · 06/10/2023 13:24

I couldn't understand why the farmer didn't tell Siegfried his wife had died?

That Wesley had some left hook!

SingingSands · 06/10/2023 14:15

I'm saving it up to binge watch as it's my comfort telly!

IwantToRetire · 06/10/2023 18:42

The story line and the acting of Mrs Hall are as though from a more serious drama, and she is surrounded by pantomime characters.

I think it a bit like Call the Midwife which initially was quite serious and then became a parody of itself!

The snow round the farm was explained that it is a though there is a different weather system the higher up the hills you go. (I have experienced this on a summer holiday happy in sleeveless top and taking a day trip into the hills and felt an idiot for not having gloves and a scarf!)

I agree with @LIZS it was definitely missing Callum Woodhouse as Tristan. Loved him in The Durrells too. Will have to keep an eye out for what he's filming now that has kept him from this!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/10/2023 22:58

So happy this series is back on 😁

I do find James a bit annoying though, was a bit of a stretch to believe he'd have gone after that boy at the duck race plus stalked him to his house

Sweet ending though.

Love Siegfried so much, I'd marry him 😂

SgtCatherineCawood · 06/10/2023 23:05

Get in the queue @Girliefriendlikespuppies 🤣

I agree! Definitely Sunday evening tv.

He's great as Tristan, just right, and a great relationship with Siegfried.

Notonthestairs · 07/10/2023 08:12

I looked up whether Tristan is back at all this series.

Hello magazine Grin suggests he was filming a horror mystery but also that he might pop up in a later episode.

Love his relationship with Siegfried and with Mrs H.

I seem to remember that Peter Davidson’s Tristan disappears for a quite few episodes ass well. Story line or other commitments?

Freysimo · 07/10/2023 08:27

I felt sorry for the poor shivering whippet. It looked thoroughly miserable and I can't imagine what kind of owner can have permitted it. Surely they could have used a dog with a thicker coat?

That's at odds with the books.

LIZS · 07/10/2023 12:44

Iirc "Tristan" was called up and maybe the void in this episode echoed that felt by so many households at the time, missing someone.

Clawdy · 07/10/2023 15:52

Yes, I know the Wesley story didn't end well in the book, but I felt like watching something happier!

purpleme12 · 07/10/2023 20:26

Why were they concerned about the dog at the beginning? Did the boy do something to the dog or something? I missed it somehow

It had distemper, I think.

James spotted the dog had symptoms of Distemper and the boy wouldn't let him look at the dog so he called the RSPCA who came out immediately so either the RSPCA were bored during the war or were just much more efficient back then than they are now.

Maireas · 07/10/2023 20:49

Well, people were encouraged to have their pets put down at the beginning of WW2, so I imagined that was what was going to happen.
