I couldn't see a thread about this, so have started one. Hope it is not a duplicate.

Have found it more and more saccharine but love the scenery.

And love reading comments.

Any one thinking of watching?

Well, people were encouraged to have their pets put down at the beginning of WW2, so I imagined that was what was going to happen.

Maybe but the RSPCA lady said the dog would be better off with them but I suppose that could be a euphanism for better off put down.

Could be. Probably unlikely to be rehomed in 1940.

The story line and the acting of Mrs Hall are as though from a more serious drama, and she is surrounded by pantomime characters.

I think it a bit like Call the Midwife which initially was quite serious and then became a parody of itself!

The snow round the farm was explained that it is a though there is a different weather system the higher up the hills you go. (I have experienced this on a summer holiday happy in sleeveless top and taking a day trip into the hills and felt an idiot for not having gloves and a scarf!)

I think Sam West is amazing.

SgtCatherineCawood · 07/10/2023 21:21

I can see so much of his dad in Samuel West but not his mum!

Absolutely love everything about this show but was left wondering why the post box is in the middle of the road and why there are no war time blackout curtains or tape on the glass windows.

LIZS · 07/10/2023 21:44

Thought same about windows, especially as the Herriots did not even seem to close their bedroom curtains.

BristolBlueGlasses · 07/10/2023 22:01

@LIZS Exactly! Paper thin curtains left ajar with the lights on.

Clawdy · 08/10/2023 08:19

Yes, that postbox looked really odd.

LIZS · 12/10/2023 21:35

Blossom Sad
Mrs Harbottle not going down well!

justasking111 · 12/10/2023 22:08

Happy ending for Blossom and the ferret. The actress who played Mrs Harbottle I'm sure I've seen her in something else.

She's been in a few things over the years. Shetland for one I think.

5foot5 · 12/10/2023 22:27

I've played ferret roulette! Though the ferret was put in a barrel with holes knocked in the bottom edge rather than an overcoat.

Clawdy · 12/10/2023 22:31

I was rather hoping she'd turn out to be nice and marry Siegfried!

LittleMonks11 · 12/10/2023 22:31

I'm saving for Sunday evenings. I still have to watch last years Christmas special though before I start this season.

JaneJeffer · 12/10/2023 23:58

Was that Jen's magician boyfriend (IT Crowd) with the dead rabbit?

Spareincoming · 13/10/2023 13:58

@JaneJeffer Yes it was! My brain made the connection at about 4am… late stage pregnancy brain fixated on where do we know him from!

JaneJeffer · 13/10/2023 14:05

Thanks @Spareincoming C5 always plonk a big preview over the credits which is annoying when you want to know who an actor is!

Oblomov23 · 14/10/2023 17:42

Watched 1&2. Loved the book-keeper and Siegfried dealing with her, or not. Enjoyed.

Maireas · 15/10/2023 10:28

I thought that was a better episode. The farmer and the ferret story were good, as was the introduction of Miss Harbottle. Mrs Hall still seems conflicted about her relationship with Mr Moustache, although flowers and buttered creams should help her decide.

Neve McIntosh

she was the Sister in Bodies (Jed Mercurio)

Leeds2 · 19/10/2023 00:37

Just googled the name of the actor who owned the ferret, and he was Mr Chaudhry in Waterloo Road! I wondered why his face seemed so familiar.
Also James Bolam as Blossom's owner. Surprised there hasn't been more media coverage of that.

KimberleyClark · 19/10/2023 07:23

The Wesley Binks story was much sadder in the books. He was a neglected child, the dog died and Wesley went to the bad again and ended up in prison.

He was also Troy in Benidorm 😃

I've never watched that!

KimberleyClark · 19/10/2023 10:43

I agree with you OP that it is getting more and more saccharine. I watch it for the lovely nostalgic music and the scenery. People didn’t take their children into pubs in the 40s did they?
