I couldn't see a thread about this, so have started one. Hope it is not a duplicate.

Have found it more and more saccharine but love the scenery.

And love reading comments.

Any one thinking of watching?

I can't wait for the Christmas special!

Helens dad shouting made me jump out the chair 😳

eggandonion · 09/11/2023 22:25

It is especially good because it's tucked away on Channel 5. A secret series!

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2023 09:33

I missed it again dammit

eggandonion · 10/11/2023 09:44

Our channel 5 is on an out of the way bit of the list...so I missed the first couple of episodes. Mostly we watch their royalty programmes and nice travel programmes. Im decidedly old and middle class.😀

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2023 10:20

Fecking Sky Ireland eh? @eggandonion it's really annoying

SirChenjins · 10/11/2023 11:34

Loved that episode! If the Christmas Special features a baby and the start of Hall/Farnon romance I shall be a very happy bunny.

Clawdy · 10/11/2023 12:00

Looking forward to the baby storyline, but I really don't see Siegfried and Mrs Hall as a couple. Maybe it's because I read all the books, and in them, she's just a kindly old soul!

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2023 12:01

Old Mrs Hall would have a conniption if she could see this carry on

eggandonion · 10/11/2023 13:20

Siegfried needs to employ a kindly vet nurse to woo.
@JaneJeffer we ditched sky for saorview😉

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/11/2023 13:35

I need James and Tristan to return.

It’s not very realistic for the times.

SirChenjins · 10/11/2023 14:15

It definitely isn’t realistic - but it’s heartwarming viewing for the dark Thursday evenings

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 10/11/2023 14:20

I'd happily be his dental nurse 🥰 Dd says he's not even good looking but I love him. He makes me laugh and feel comfort and joy. I she'd a few tears last night and know I will with the Christmas special.

Houseplanter · 10/11/2023 14:45

Im really torn about the chemistry between Mrs Hall and Siegfried. Certainly mutual respect, and a close friendship developed through living together and supporting one another through some very difficult times.

Not sure if it's romantic chemistry, but the fact that it's debatable is, I think, because of clever writing and acting. It's creating a 'will they, won't they' element.

Just love it.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2023 14:46

@eggandonion can you record C5 on Saorview?

eggandonion · 10/11/2023 15:59

I think you can record onto a hard drive from saorview but only from the station you are tuned into. And no player thingy. I d love the bbc player. But it saves about 400 euros a year... I wish rte would show best of channel 5.
I will rely on someone here to remind me about the Christmas episode.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2023 16:09

RTÉ end up getting ACGAS ages after C5 @eggandonion so I usually record then and can watch the whole thing without missing episodes but I wish they would get it at the same time as C5 or even a week later would do me!

eggandonion · 10/11/2023 17:22

Like Eastenders would suit@JaneJeffer . I do like a cosy series in winter. Even if its a bit silly.

Wbeezer · 10/11/2023 18:19

The real " Siegfried" married a woman called Audrey...

SirChenjins · 10/11/2023 18:33

It has to happen 🤞

Hellocatshome · 10/11/2023 19:07

I think I prefer Siegfried and Mrs Hall as comfortable old friends than lovers.

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/11/2023 13:35

I need James and Tristan to return.

James will, probably sooner than you think.

I have read most of the books and I seem to recall that he completes his training as a pilot but never actually has to fly in earnest because some minor medical issue prevents him being a pilot. Then I think the decision is that if he can't fly he will be more valuable if he returns to civilian life because, after all, vet is a reserved occupation. I would have to dig the book out to remember the exact details.

Think Tristan served through the war as an officer but in a veterinary capacity.

Very pleased Mrs Hall is staying as Anna Madeley along with Sam West are such great talents.
What I don't understand though is why Gerald's sister can't come to Skeldale and live with him!? I mean, if it means her brother's happiness and he's the one doing the looking after... surely a no brainer!

Yes that doesn't really make any sense but I never liked Gerald anyway.

Nothing like 'Edward' or the WW1 flashback episodes from last series.

Totally agree. I wouldn't mind a few soppy bits, but then back to the real story.

It seems to have been taken over by the writers of Call the Midwife who cut out all the real problems they faced as midwives, to just have sentimental personal stories.

I just want to say I agree with this. Call the Midwife used to be an excellent, gritty series with great social commentary and not always a happy ending. Then it got taken over.

All Creatures' original series was gritty too with humour and wit, sadnesses and joys and the first series of the remake started well but has gone the same way as later Midwife.

Still - Siegfried is splendid in both versions
