I have a lot to say, but just heading out the door. I will return with MANY thoughts.

Was certainly a big twist at the end! I have my thoughts on who it will be but it seems a bit predictable if it is.

Who? I can't think who it might be. Not Vernon, surely?

CupOfCoffeePlease · 09/09/2023 13:30

THANKYOU.

So many things to say.

But before I forget Hot New Doctor... was trying to date Mel (early 30s) and now Muriel (late 50s?l

And seriously Calvin?!?!?!

And poor Brady actually felt sorry for him . She wouldn't date him as he was acting with a secret but will date policeman with the same secret.

And really a lot happens in a small village doesn't it.

Oh and can we talk about "carnival". That's not a carniva!! That's a funfair!

And how pregnant was Mel? Did she just give up work?

CupOfCoffeePlease · 09/09/2023 13:31

And why on earth would mels mum have dated someone in VR. Isnt the whole idea that Mel escaped to some remote small town... (not that this is the first unbelievable thing...)

Sirzy · 09/09/2023 13:40

I think it will be Vernon, he is about the only male in the right age range really.

Mel left because she didn’t want to work with the new doctor but knew that they needed the new doctor to stay.

User16328715 · 09/09/2023 13:42

There is not that many to choose from to be Mel's father, only Vernon really, as they would have had to have been there about 30 years ago, don't know exactly how old Mel is meant to be and still there

CupOfCoffeePlease · 09/09/2023 13:45

Google suggests Mel is 32 but it also mentioned the book. And now I'm scared to Google as I don't want any spoilers from the books if they're following them!

Clefable · 09/09/2023 13:58

Brady is never lucky. I have such a crush though. Mike is boring.

Did anyone else think Lizzy and Denny's pregnancy is being set up for Mel and Jack to adopt or something?! Just came so close on the heels of them deciding to look at other options for their family.

The miscarriage stuff was really well done I thought. I felt so sick for her with the bleeding and then the ultrasound 😢

Vernon is too obvious to be her dad surely?? BERT?!?! 🤪 But yes I can't really think who else.

Why the hell did Charmaine have sex with Calvin?! Assuming it was willingly.

OP posts:
Clefable · 09/09/2023 14:02

Also poor Jack, he went from being the potential father of three children to none! Does that mean Charmaine was cheating on him with Calvin? Confused

New doctor gives me the creeps. Muriel deserves better.

OP posts:
TwigTheWonderKid · 09/09/2023 14:02

Don't you think Vernon fathering two surprise children is just a bit odd? But agree, not sure who else it could be?

Dotcheck · 09/09/2023 14:03

Can we talk about Charmaine’s pregnancy though?
She’s 8/9 months pregnant and most of the 5 series has taken place in those months.

How?

HOW?!?!

CupOfCoffeePlease · 09/09/2023 14:19

Yes the length of her pregnancy is the biggest issue here!

I can't think of any other annual things to get a sense of time (have we had the "carnival" and xmS before?) Or has it all really taken place within a few months!?

Jack and Mel have no chemistry.

And Did docs wife previously have such a big role as mayor and a "chief of staff"?!

Clefable · 09/09/2023 14:23

I think it's just over a really short period of time, which is weird as some stuff feels like it should have taken much longer! But I think every season is like a month or two. Wasn't there a time skip in one of the early seasons?

OP posts:
User16328715 · 09/09/2023 14:28

Mel would have only been at VR for about six months if the timeline follows the pregnancies which can't be surely as so much else has happened.

BackToOklahoma · 09/09/2023 14:29

I think it’s too obvious for them to make Vernon, Mels dad. I think it will be Nick.

I’ve really enjoyed this series. I felt sorry for Brady. And Jack thinking he was going to be a dad to 3 children to losing it all. I was so hoping Mel was wrong with the ultrasound.

Clefable · 09/09/2023 14:30

There hasn't been Christmas before have we, so it must be all in one year! I googled and apparently it does take place over like 6 months or something!

Why didn't the affair partner sign the letters but did mention Virgin River a lot.

I was thinking of Bert but Nick makes more sense and Nick has been in season 5 more than others.

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 09/09/2023 15:22

I felt the wildfire episodes were great, they really added something different. I feel the actress who plays Mels acting has gone downhill though, she is starting to make me cringe. I thought the series was okay (mainly due to the wildfire) until the last few minutes when her sister found the letters in the Christmas box (has nobody ever looked in this box before now?) Then tells her in the most casual way imaginable that not only was her mum having an affair on her dad, but she was more than likely the product of this affair? Aside from the fact the affair partner just happened to live in this little random place called Virgin River that Mel just happened to coincidentally move to. I don't know, it seems to be getting really farfetched. And Lizzie possibly pregnant? It feels like someone is either pregnant, having pregnany issues or giving birth a bit often now 🙈

TwigTheWonderKid · 09/09/2023 13:23

I thought Vernon then thought it was too obvious. So, I'm going for Bert 😂😂

AnneShirleysNewDress · 09/09/2023 15:29

What happened to Lily's husband? DP thought Mel and Ava were sisters.

Clefable · 09/09/2023 15:30

Ooh yes!!! She is their sister and will adopt the baby so Tara can pursue her career!

What happened to Lily's husband? DP thought Mel and Ava were sisters.

In one of the first seasons episodes, they said her husband died 6 months ago. In the Christmas trailer when Mel says she’s found her father and Jack asks where he is, I think Preacher said he’s still in Virgin River.

When Preacher said that, my first thought was that he's said that, but it will turn out they're buried there, don't know why. Just to throw people off I reckon. Though if they are alive, aul Bert is still there 🤷‍♀️

Clymene · 09/09/2023 23:44

There's definitely been winter before. I'm sure there was snow.

Glad to see in the preview that Charmaine is finally giving birth as she has had the longest pregnancy known to women

Muriel and doc are a bit 🤮
Remember when she was always hitting on vernon?

Think lizzy giving Mel her baby to adopt is a very likely scenario.

It's sooo terrible but I kind of love it.

Yes, you could well be right, I didn’t think of that. 🤔

So, we have, Vernon, Lily’s deceased husband, Nick or Bert.
