I have a lot to say, but just heading out the door. I will return with MANY thoughts.

*When Preacher said that, my first thought was that he's said that, but it will turn out they're buried there, don't know why. Just to throw people off I reckon. Though if they are alive, aul Bert is still there^ 🤷‍♀️

Yes, you could well be right, I didn’t think of that. 🤔

So, we have, Vernon, Lily’s deceased husband, Nick or Bert.

I'm almost sure when Lily died it there was mention of a family plot or something at the farm (don't quote me though) so I imagine technically that counts as Buck (Lily's husband) being in Virgin River. I genuinely can't think who it would likely be other than those three as most of the other men old enough are just background characters, it seems odd it might be someone else. Or maybe it's going to be a way of introducing a new character I suppose.

catsliketowearsocks · 10/09/2023 09:02

I thought it was quite boring. So many of the characters are so dull that you don't care what happens to them.

Hiddenvoice · 10/09/2023 09:17

The timeline just confuses me the most. So in the longest pregnancy known to man, Charmaine got dumped, met a new man, got married and then he left her and she still isn’t 9 months pregnant 😂

It confuses the life out of me too. Alongside Mel meeting Jack, breaking up, fannying off at the last minute for life changing fertility treatment, finding out shes pregnant, being offered option of carrying out a DNA test and leaving her job, which, for the most part is hardly over-taxing work in a small town doctors office before she has so much as a bump! And that's only one I can think of.

I should have added, she also had the brass neck to scold her sister for getting married terribly quickly to someone she knew way back in high school, yet Mel is planning on raising kids and engaged to a man she has known less than six months herself at that point 😂

Yes! I found this hilarious, she was so annoyed at her sister but in a short space of time she decided she was in love and got angry when Jack didn’t jump at the idea of having a baby.

If her storyline had been over a year then Id maybe believe it but the fact that she’d only lived in VR for a couple of months is crazy.

Shadesofscarlett · 10/09/2023 10:43

And Brie was in court 4 months after the attack - during which time she had arrived at VR, fell in love with Brady, dumped him and started another relationship.

What happened to Lily's husband? DP thought Mel and Ava were sisters.

In one of the first seasons episodes, they said her husband died 6 months ago. In the Christmas trailer when Mel says she’s found her father and Jack asks where he is, I think Preacher said he’s still in Virgin River.

I haven’t watched the trailer. Well, there goes my idea that her dad turns out to Jack’s dad and they’re actually half brother and sister and therefore can’t keep being together anymore.

And yes, the timeline is crazy. I don’t think that I have ever watched a tv series where 5 seasons is less than a year. Especially considering just how much has happened in this short period of time in a small country town.

And how is that Calvin even knows that he is the father when it was only a one night stand?

ImustLearn2Cook · 10/09/2023 11:21

@CupOfCoffeePlease yeah I agree, Jack and Mel don’t really have any chemistry. Their relationship gives me the ick. I’m hoping it ends and she meets someone else.

Underminer · 11/09/2023 00:07

VR annoys me because I want the answers but it is getting ridiculous to watch.

Annette O’Toole’s acting at times is really crap, like a school play.

I also had the theory about Jack and Mel being half-siblings.

Totally agree. I've watched 3 episodes of season 5 and not enjoyed them at all. I might just read the spoiler thread and save my time for something else.

Basically I want to know-

Does Charmaine ever have her babies?
Do Mel and Jack get married?

I'm not interested in anyone else. They're all just annoying and slightly creepy. Even these 3 are slightly creepy.

I'm so disappointed, I thought I enjoyed VR much more than this.

MaybeOneAndDone · 11/09/2023 12:22

I started to find this season really repetitive in terms of the faux awkwardness of the early stages new relationships. (E.g Brie and Mike, Brady and his new interest). The speed with which people move on is also extremely unrealistic.

The show also becoming very predictable once the characters are in relationships. No couple is allowed to have more than 2-3 episodes of being happy without a contrived situation emerging to throw a spanner in the works.

Clefable · 11/09/2023 13:46

Can you imagine Brady's new love interest posting on MN?

'I'm a single parent to one DD, 8. We've fallen on hard times a bit and have been squatting in a motorhome, but we're having to move out because there was a major drugs bust and the FBI have taken over the land. Anyway, I've met this guy, known him about a week - he's ex-military and was involved in a drug-smuggling racket for a few months and stole money from his friend, but he says he became an informer for the FBI and it's over now (although another of his friends got shot and almost killed). He just came out of a serious relationship one day ago. We're going on a date tonight and my DD is coming with us. My friend said that it's moving too fast and he's bad news, but AIBU to think that she should mind her own business?'

This had me in a fit of laughter on my train home 😂 100% right though. There would be a recurring roar of LTB too, though that could be said for most relationships in Virgin River. Between dodgy relationships and pregnancies, there has to be something in the water down there!

Unihorn · 11/09/2023 23:06

The timeline is absolutely wild! Brie was telling Mel how jealous she was of how easy Mel and Jack "always" make it look when they get through hard times - it's been a few months!

Clymene · 11/09/2023 23:11

Until I read this thread, I thought each season covered a couple of months, not a couple of days.

It's blown my tiny mind.

Underminer · 12/09/2023 00:04

It’s really disappointing on what could’ve been a really nice season.

I absolutely love VR!!! I don't care what anyone else says, the acting is great and Mel and Jack have amazing chemistry. I can't wait til 30 November now! Who cares about weird timelines ?! This show gives me the feels :-) Haha, I'm a bit obsessed (especially with Martin Henderson!).

CupOfCoffeePlease · 12/09/2023 20:56

Oh wow. I do quite like the show despite all the random stuff.

But they really do not have chemistry?!?!?

I like it too, it’s easy watching and I do like the majority of the characters. The timeline does annoy me though and the fact that everyone is incapable of being single 😂 Preacher ended it with the instructor to try again with Paige. Then swore off women for an episode or two and has now fallen head over heels for someone who’s married! 😂 It’s a good laugh though, my husband thinks all the drama is hilarious, not sure id want to live there!

SpookySpoon22 · 12/09/2023 21:24

@CupOfCoffeePlease We'll have to agree to disagree 🤣 (did you not see S2, Ep 2?!!).

@Hiddenvoice Yeah, my DH thinks it's funny too!

Finishingoff · 12/09/2023 22:02

I reckon Mel’s dad is Nick as he featured much more this season. His sister is also the chief baddie now and it would mean Mel (and therefore Jack) would be connected to her as well.

Loopytiles · 12/09/2023 22:25

The episodes drag and characters are all annoying. No chemistry between the couples or friends.

Jack and Mel = snoozefest.

Don’t like Brady but as a PP says police guy’s deceit is just as bad.

Still like the scenery though!
