I've started a new thread already in case I forget to do it. Might not be needed but I think there's only about 50 posts left on the old thread. Shall we say we'll start posting on this one from tomorrow (Friday 5th) ?

I would have been happy if any of the teams won as they all deserved it and it really was so close. However, saying that I got tingles up and down my spine when Cathie and Trish turned the page in the book and discovered they had won, it was a very emotional moment. I heard the moment played again on the radio on the way to work this morning and got a bit teary. It really meant so much to them, it was wonderful. To think right at the beginning they couldn’t even find the way out of the park!

A wonderful series, I really enjoyed it.

Kaftanesque · 11/05/2023 13:28

The reunion programme is lovely.Watching them tu4n that page again made me well up.

RaraRachael · 11/05/2023 14:08

I see there are cries of it being a fix - but not for the reason I thought there might be 🤔

bombayw · 11/05/2023 15:06

We found Mobeen's panic in the final quite funny, he's been so chilled throughout the series so far, it was interesting seeing him finally look flustered

I found the smaller one of the women that won quite humourless, but they did have a lot to overcome to win so pleased for them.

FriendofDorothy · 11/05/2023 15:53

When was the reunion on?

purpleme12 · 11/05/2023 15:55

10.40 last night.
It'll be on iPlayer. It's just the last episode of RATW

I don’t know about “fix” but it felt more obvious the production crew had had to get involved to maybe persuade people to engage/offer lifts this time, no doubt driven by the poor public transport options.

Fleabea · 11/05/2023 17:09

Did anyone watch the reunion? There were a few unseen clips including locals saying that hitchhikers in some areas had to wait 7 days for a lift so they did well to get the number of lifts they all managed to do. I guess the film crew helps alleviate fears that the contestants are nutters (and vice versa!)

IceandIndigo · 11/05/2023 09:24

I wondered that too. Especially since they won it would have been nice to see how they did it! Perhaps the driver didn’t want to be filmed.

I was surprised that they didn’t properly show the times at the end, but maybe the producers wanted us to believe it was closer than it actually was.

Yes, I'd have like a spreadsheet showing spending and earning by each couple at each checkpoint.

SoupDragon · 11/05/2023 19:24

I've just watched the Reunion and I think it's such a shame they eliminated the brothers. I don't think a single elimination round adds anything to the programme at all really.

KrasiTime · 11/05/2023 21:58

So so pleased for the ladies & have been avoiding the thread all day! I just identified with them so much, I’m limited mobility as well so understood the struggles but a zillion times more scary when it’s your sight.

To be fair though I’d have been happy with anyone winning, going out of your comfort zone in a foreign country & spending 24 hours a day with the same person really tests a friendship. Backpacked several years decades ago and so can relate a little to the challenges.

Well done to them all.

NCTDN · 11/05/2023 22:14

The more I think about it, the more pleased I am that they won. They certainly were the underdogs.

Paloma66 · 12/05/2023 07:23

I've just been looking at the info about on the contestants on the BBC website and realise that Ladi is younger than me! For some reason I'd built him up in my head as 'the older guy who is doing really well to keep up'. He's 52 and works in fitness and is pretty much the same age as Kevin. I thought by the way he behaved that he was retired and living a slow pace of life.

I'm glad Tricia and Cathie won but I'd have been happy for Monique and Ladi to win. I wasn't so keen on Zainib and Mobeen by the end.

Strange how we all take different views of the same thing, I didnt think Ladi came across as older at all, definitely seemed to act younger than Kevin to me.

I think he tried very hard to say things that made him seem wise so maybe thats where the older vibe comes from.

freddieatemyhamster · 12/05/2023 09:07

I didn't mind who won in the end, they all seemed nice, but glad for the 'older' ladies. I thought it was funny how when M & Z got there second and realised C & T had won they were immediately happy for them yet M & L were hacked off! Ha, just more competitive I guess.

As for the Reunion show were there some clips not previously shown? I had the feeling I'd missed an episode somehow! In a way the brothers were a bit superfluous to the Reunion show as they didn't add much to things and were only in it for a while. At least the moody one seems a bit happier now. Also, no mention of Tricia's (?) ill husband which was a dilemma at one stage.

the80sweregreat · 12/05/2023 09:18

What became of Tricia's husband and his kidney problems?
I didn't watch the reunion show

SoupDragon · 12/05/2023 09:20

I don't think they said how he was.

At one point in the programme it was said his kidney transplant had failed and he was back on dialysis

bombayw · 12/05/2023 09:35

I would love it if they did an extra show alongside the main one that showed what they got up to in the 48 hours they get at each checkpoint or whatever it is.

Funny how Mobeen and Zainab knew they were in front of Monique and Ladi but M & L didn't know they were last.

I don't think they were annoyed they didn't win just that they were last which I can understand

RaraRachael · 12/05/2023 11:20

There were definitely unseen moments in the reunion show as I don't remember Kevin and Claudia working at a theme park, I'm sure I'd have remember him dressing up in an animal costume!

purpleme12 · 12/05/2023 11:27

Yes that wasn't shown

SoupDragon · 12/05/2023 12:42

Dulra · 12/05/2023 11:12

Ladi admired in the reunion that they were gutted not to win didn't he? Nice and honest!

SoupDragon · 12/05/2023 12:42

I thought the bear costume was a lovely moment for K&C - I wonder if the rest of the work slot wasn't great or something?

I saw a news article yesterday saying that he'd sandfly become a double amputee following the kidney failure, which is such a shame!
