Anyone watching this?
no spoilers but I’m already on episode 3 and love it!
Just George’s smile is melting me….

Found a screenshot of Bridgerton young queen Charlotte dancing in front of Vic's coronation portrait. Can't believe people getting shirty about that on Twitter. It's a fantastyverse people.

dessicatedblackbird · 11/05/2023 17:33

I can't believe that people are upset by it either. Programmes like this require suspension of disbelief.

I loved it, I'm going to rewatch it.

martinisforeveryone · 11/05/2023 17:37

Aaaah the women who started the Twitter thread is an American fashion historian. Some interesting knowledge there but quite earnest.

I actually loved one reply that said the presence of Victoria and Albert in portrait form, was a reassurance that everything turned out well in the end.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/05/2023 17:43

People like this worry me.

They are the same people who think the Crown is a documentary.

As for historical inaccuracies, is Victoria’s portrait the worst? Some people need to sit down with a cup of tea and reflect on their selective willingness to be offended.

vjg13 · 11/05/2023 18:22

I enjoyed it. I absolutely love some of the costumes.

AnyFucker · 11/05/2023 23:08

Binged it all today. The costumes, the sets, the actors, well everything was great.

Bridgerton passed me by as a silly bonkfest but I might give it a try now

MiniCooperLover · 12/05/2023 06:30

Loved the Brimsly/Reynolds story but didn't like Charlotte's questions to Brimsly at the end about marriage. The man had followed her every step for decades, how could she not know he's gay and alone?

Notonthestairs · 12/05/2023 07:35

"Bridgerton passed me by as a silly bonkfest but I might give it a try now"

IMO Bridgerton is a silly bonkfest and lacks much of an emotional punch. But it's fun & frothy, beautiful to look at, has some interesting mixes of music, some amazing flowers (bit niche there!) and some decent performances.

lljkk · 12/05/2023 07:53

The bonking scenes are mostly dull, I FF thru them.
Recommend don't FF thru Brimsley & Reynolds bonk scenes, though, lots of plot dialogue happens in their trysts.

The frocks, though, omg, the frocks! 🤩 😍 🤩 😍 🤩 😍
And the Queen's Hair. Incomparable.
I'd like to hear Golda Rosheuvel & her costume designers talk about those hair pieces.
\Because GR is actually middle aged now, would be cool to have her play herself unaged in the V+E romance prequel.

I think Shonda Rhimes is simply a better writer than Julia Quinn and Chris van Dusen (showrunner for original Bridgerton). I tried to read The Duke and I once and got about three pages in before having to give up.

I tried to read the first book too after watching S1. Like you, I gave up fairly quickly.
I was amazed anyone had managed to read it all the way through in order to adapt it.

Honestly... kind of is 😂 it’s almost paint by numbers romance tropes, first season is fake engagement, second is enemies to lovers and it’s looking like the third is friends to lovers.

They're very well done though if you like that kind of thing (I do) good ensemble characters, with interesting secondary plot lines going on, a fair bit of social commentary.

Queen Charlotte has a lot more depth though, I think.

It’s a revolutionary, silly bonkfest.

For which Shonda Rhimes has all my gratitude and admiration. (For production of the originals and creation of Queen Charlotte.)

I loved it. I did like Bridgeton 1 but haven't got past the 1st episode in Bridgeton 2. Is it worth trying again?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2023 12:51

Bridgerton 2 was utter rubbish, not even enjoyable rubbish.

Whinge, whinge whinge and the love interest has the all charm of a prison warden on duty.

MarciaSaysANumber · 12/05/2023 14:17

Brief, cute NYT interview with the costume designer. Obviously it contains minor SPOILERS for anyone who hasn’t watched.

Here

I thought this. I just couldn't take to the two characters at all.

cathyandclare · 12/05/2023 18:23

I wasn't keen on Season 2 either but I loved Anthony in Season 1 and I'm a huge fan of Jonathan Bailey in general, he was outstanding in Company. I just think the plot rewrite and the chemistry weren't right.

ToK1 · 12/05/2023 21:07

I really loved this. Had me in unexpected tears at the end.

Loved the scenes between Agatha and the dowager princess and Agatha and Violet as older women discussing their need for sex.

Loved Brimsley and Reynolds. And obviously Charlotte and George.

I also found it odd that Charlotte didn't know anything about Brimsley. True to how the real queen would have been I suppose but they appeared to be showing her differently.

The casting was amazing. Beautiful costumes and scenery.

Felt the music was less impactful this series.

Can't wait for series 3 now.

Agree, Charlotte was so likable when she first meets George, I don't think she'd be so uncaring.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 12/05/2023 22:46

I have just learned a top fact (may not be 100% true but Wikipedia and PopBitch can't both be wrong).

Reynolds is played by Hugh Dennis' son.

lljkk · 12/05/2023 22:52

Freddie Dennis, you can find his pic as Reynolds.

KillingMeDeftly · 12/05/2023 23:05

Oh god yes. I can see the resemblance now!

flumposie · 13/05/2023 00:35

Loved it. Preferred it to Bridgerton . Sobbed at the end.

I just watched this and the penny only dropped at the very end that I'd been watching 2 storylines/timelines. I was totally confused and couldn't understand why there were 2 queens 🤣

I enjoyed it despite clearly being very dense and not being able to follow the plot!

Oh I'm so glad i wasn't the only dense one, I was thinking why are there so many queens?!

I absolutely loved it, it was far darker and more nuanced than I was expecting for a Bridgerton series. I want to rewatch the 1st and 3rd now, with a big swerve of S2 which had no chemistry and felt flat

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 07/05/2023 23:21

Anything would be an improvement on the dismal season 2, but I’m not in a hurry to watch.

I had to be persuaded too, but you must!
