Is anyone watching? I'm finding it increasingly boring and Sam Claflin is woefully miscast, he's far too old and looks nothing like a rock star.

I watched it. He's lovely in 1977, but a bit seedy looking in 1970. None of the casting agents appear to have met anyone in their early 20s.

Unusually, I haven't actually read the book first. I've read her others.
But I've watched many a bbc4 documentar, so reckon I know how this one ends. It's easy Friday night telly though and a nice change from zombies or psychopaths.

I'm watching it and enjoying it but I love that 60s/70s rock star/fashion era. I've read the book and loved it so I know the story but still worth watching. Personally I think Sam Claflin is better in the later scenes as his beard hides his skeletal cheekbones.

I loved the audio bokk but this is just not doing it for me. The acting is rubbish and the main man not sexy enough. I wanted a Jim Morrison type😃

If you look her lips aren't in the right place - or don't show the effort needed for the style and volume of the song
If you Google it as well she gives an interview somewhere were she says she lied about her singing ability to get the job.
It's a common Hollywood practice eg it's not Rebecca Ferguson singing in The Greatest Showman

I binge watched 3 episodes and am loving it. I haven’t read the book though so nothing to compare it to.
i read on google that it was her singing. It said its also loosely based on Fleetwood Mac.

Equally what I'm seeing is could be that if the singing was a struggle they've beefed it up, tweaked it and auto tuned it in the studio and then layered it over the top in post production so that's why it looks like she's not singing live.

Just watched the first three episodes and loved it. The 70s are my era and it was like being young again for a couple of hours. I can’t wait for the rest of it to drop.

I quite enjoyed the book but found it a bit self-congratulatory & too cool for school. The review in the Guardian for the series was pretty damning & hilarious in equal measure!

I don't think an actress or actor ever sings live in a show, you wouldn't be able to pick up the vocals properly. It's always done in a studio and laid over

I hated the book so much I only read 2 chapters but I thought I'd give the show a go. I quite enjoyed episode 2 but the other two were a bit boring. I don't like the mockumentary bits (I know that's how it was in the book, but I'm not buying Sam Claflin looking wistfully off into the middle distance with a wry grin).
Also agree wholeheartedly with the Guardian review that this should have been a film. They go on tour and the next minute Billy (?) needs rehab and he's leaving the band? The pacing is all off.

I watched the first one today and came on to find a thread just so I could comment about Sam Claflin being a bad casting choice. He looks too old and just doesn't feel right for the part. I just googled his age, and he's actually younger than I thought. He looks early forties at least.
I'll carry on watching, but I wasn't blown away by the first episode. Loved the book.

I meant in the scenes where Billy was supposed to be a 17-year-old high school student SC looked about 60 in comparison!

I thought the book was awful
The audio book was great. I dont think I could’ve read the actual book. The casting here is all wrong. The acting rubbish and the singer not sexy enough. He does look like a fully grown man hanging out with teenagers. Creepy. Although all the range in that era. I was expecting it to be more like the film Almost famous
