Daisy Jones and the Six

Is anyone watching? I'm finding it increasingly boring and Sam Claflin is woefully miscast, he's far too old and looks nothing like a rock star.

@MermaidEyes https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a43213723/daisy-jones-and-the-six-tv-book-differences/]

according to this, there is a very early band member who gets drafted to Vietnam and does there. I also read in a Wikipedia entry about the book that Teddy dies of the heart attack that he recovers from in the show.

How 'Daisy Jones & The Six' Differs From The Novel

Amazon's adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's rock and roll bestseller took some big swings with the finale's ending.

@NeverApologiseNeverExplain ah thank you, that must be what I was thinking of. It was only a few months back I read the book but I read so many they all roll into one eventually!

Blossomtoes · 26/03/2023 12:13

Thanks @NeverApologiseNeverExplain, you’ve just saved me re reading the book. I was sure Billy and Camilla had more kids in the book.

They had twins as well.
I don't think they quite knew what to do with csmila in the series. In the book, she basically wants to be a wife and mother and says you can happy a happy unfaithful marriage or an unhappy faithful marriage, but she's ruthless in getting rid of her competition. She doesn't have an affair with Eddie, although I think Graham is meant to be a bit in love with her.

I did like his the did Eddie as the malcontent; you can always spot them in the documentaries. The ones who wanted to be lead. I also liked how in the book, there's another band member you hear about, but basically has fuck all to do with them afterwards and has about one thing to say.

I thought it was a boating accident whilst high on drugs but maybe I’m getting carried away with myself! It was awful but I had to see it through. They could’ve chosen so many actors musicians with an edge to them. It was good to see Suki Waterhouse cross over from modelling and be actually good at it often they aren’t.

Another one who crossed over from modelling to acting and is good, in my opinion, is Cara Delevigne. Watch Carnival Row to see (though it is a very different TV experience to DJ&T6!)

Finished it last night, on the whole I enjoyed it! Cried a river at the ending even though I had read the book and knew the storyline. Totally agree that SC was completely miscast as Billy. I thought Riley did ok as Daisy though! The music parts were a bit shite... I skipped over some of the stage performances as they were very samey.

HollyBerri · 28/03/2023 21:15

i haven’t read the book so had no expectations but loved this. Did we all watch something different? I thought Riley Keogh was amazing - i would not describe her as ordinary at all - she is gorgeous. I cried buckets at the end too.

NeverApologiseNeverExplain · 28/03/2023 23:21

I don’t know why people keep saying Sam Claflim was too old. If you watch archive footage, you’ll see that everybody looked older for their age in the 70s. People stay youthful for longer these days.

And he’s only 36 anyway!

Teenagers didn't look like middle-aged men.

I haven't watched the last two episodes, I don't think I'll bother.

Was Billy Dunn a teenager throughout? He was a married man with three kids by the end of the book. And Sam Clafilm most definitely doesn’t look like a middle aged man, he wears his 36 years very well.

Mirabai · 29/03/2023 12:56

Don’t bother. It got worse as it went on. I found it quite depressing. And then they didn’t turn out to be a super successful group like FM who continued despite the love/hate marriage/divorce affairs and serious drug addiction.

So I watched Bohemian Rapsody and that cheered me up no end.

LarryandLeon · 29/03/2023 13:04

I’ve watched it all now. I did quite enjoy it. I agree with pp that based on their songs & performances they didn’t really seem cool. But were Fleetwood Mac cool? Genuinely asking.

LarryandLeon · 29/03/2023 13:06

I think their only good song is that first one (can’t remember the name) & in real life they would have been a one hit wonder.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 29/03/2023 13:27

I enjoyed the book much more than I thought I would. It was the first TJR book I've read. I don't like the show at all.

It's a personal thing really but I just don't think Daisy or Billy are anything like I perceived them in the book. I would have preferred someone unknown to have been Billy. I've given up after 3 epsiodes.

peachescariad · 29/03/2023 13:33

Binged it in one night - loved the music and the clothes.

Absolute not, no. That’s why I was never into them.

But cooler than this bunch tbf because they were good. Nicks has a very distinctive voice and Buckingham and McVie were good guitarists.

My DH bailed at this point and I watched the last two episodes myself. I think they're worth watching, the last one at least!

Cassiusclay · 29/03/2023 14:09

I loved it so much I glommed the book straight after. Preferred the TV series though. Quite a few differences between book and series incl. in the book they are way more successful. Agree Billy look v. old in the hey days footage yet better in the current day footage.

Stevie Nicks was, and is, the last word in cool. Check out footage of her performance of 'Sisters of the Moon' on the 1982 Mirage tour: she's absolutely mesmeric. Lindsey Buckingham appears to kick her onstage, after which she disappears, leaving him to sing the bridge. Then she storms back and delivers the most spellbinding, furious, passionate performance, shouting incancations in barely comprehensible tongues and whirling like a dervish whilst never missing a note. I've seen nothing to equal it, ever, in any of the many rock gigs I've attended and although I wasn't there it's something I'd have given my teeth to have seen live.

Same as when she's singing 'Silver Springs', hollering down the mic at Lindsey about her voice haunting him forever. The fictional 'Daisy Jones', much as I liked Riley Keough's portrayal, has nothing on this woman.

As for the rest of the Mac being cool, I'm not sure any of them are, or care about being so. Green and Buckingham were both geniuses though, IMO.

SerafinasGoose · 29/03/2023 15:11

PS. 'Rumours', cool. 'Tango in the Night', not their finest hour. Subjective opinion only.

Mirabai · 29/03/2023 15:22

Rumours was not cool, you can even tell that from the naff cover. By 1982 they the musical equivalent of mom jeans.

Nicks is a cool woman with a distinctive voice but that doesn’t mean their brand of folk pop rock lite has any street cred.
