Is anyone watching? I'm finding it increasingly boring and Sam Claflin is woefully miscast, he's far too old and looks nothing like a rock star.

Older Daisy is def channelling Stevie Nicks from bbc 4 documentaries.

Daisy is much prettier than Stevie 🤷🏻‍♀️

She REALLY has a strong resemblance to Elvis in some shots.

The turning point for me was the episode focusing on Simone which was genuinely interesting (as she isn't self absorbed like daisy). I've still got one episode to go but I've enjoyed the second half of the series. I like the references to punk etc coming on the scene.

Re. Fleetwood Mac being cool. I suspect they started to be seen as MOR /dad rock like Dire Straits etc and appreciated for their musicianship rather than being cutting edge. Certainly by the 80s they weren't cool.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/04/2023 20:43

Yes, they were dismissed out of hand by The Reynolds Girls!

I think those late 60s/early 70s west coast bands were very much of the moment. Granted, by the 80s and 'Tango in the Night' that moment had very much passed. No WAY as 'dad rock' as the likes of the Grateful Dead or Dire Straits, though.

It's so sad Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison didn't make it out of their 20s. Would have been interesting to see how they would have evolved, The Doors in particular. But when you think Jefferson Airplane evolved into ........ Starship. 😭

@NooNakedJacuzziness yeah, I'd much rather jack

The best thing about this programme is the background music. It plays like one of my Spotify playlists!

Yeah, but I was a 12 year old Jason Donovan fan when that single came out, and even I knew that the Reynolds girls were not in any position to be calling other groups uncool.

I loved the last episode. Felt bad for Eddie- he was a pretty sympathetic character given that he was the antagonist. The bad guy for me was Graham- trying to manipulate and gaslight Karen, who was light years out of his league.

I agree. Creating a soundtrack for this series was always going to be a tall order, but it did prompt me to go and have another listen to the music of Lisa Marie Presley. I wasn't overly familiar with her stuff, but I found it surprisingly good. It's quite dark and intense, and whilst her voice might not have the incredible range of a Nicks or a Joplin, it suits her style perfectly. I much preferred it to the series soundtrack, although Riley Keough holds her own well as a singer and has the added string of being a pretty decent actress to her bow.

Lisa Marie's work couldn't be more different from her father's, but just to look at her there's no mistaking whose daughter she is. She is the image of him. Such a beautiful woman, and Riley is also very like her.

On a less happy note I have just Googled the Reynolds Girls. Oh, my eyes and ears!

I'm bereft. Have finished the series!
What shall I watch next????

Ooo will check it out. Thanks.
I thought they were great. Loved the show. Ok Billy not so much. But I was totally hooked!

Done 8 episodes over 2 days( I am retired)!

I think the music is quite good- evokes the era so why they chose Patti Smith for the theme song? Because it’s infinitely better of course.

It is entertaining but somehow lacks pace. I did fall asleep through a few episodes( as I said I am retired ) before I nodded off they were snorting lines sober and when I woke up they were snorting lines drunk, all a bit too cliched.
Everytime I look at Daisy I think of Florence Welch and I don’t think the make up artists did very well ageing them.
I am not familiar with any of the actors- apart from Suki Waterhouse but for me Camiila Morrone is about the best actor.
Off to do my own drugs…..anti inflammatories and statins ( I am retired, did I mention it?)

Hahah, agree about the pacing. The first half of the series is slow. Then suddenly she goes to Greece and everything picks up and you actually see performances 😄 and it gets some way to portraying both Daisy and Billy as addicts, in a kind of sanitised way. Agree as well about Camilla and although I've read the book I still found the ending very sad. And yes re. using a Patti Smith song as a better choice. The songs the band performed were all over the place in terms of style and era - they had various people contributing including I think Jackson Browne, so they weren't bad but they weren't very cohesive.

We've just finished it, and really enjoyed it. I think they could have made two series if they'd fleshed out the characters more and didn't do big time leaps.

I was interested that I still had empathy for both Daisy and Billy, despite their huge egos. I found the final episode really satisfying - I wasn't expecting a redemptive arc.

It doesn’t have street cred because it wasn’t that good is the point. It’s very, very middle of the road. And their 80s stuff was cringe.

This is purely your opinion - entirely subjective, and as likely to be right as wrong given that everyone has different musical tastes.

MrsMitford3 · 23/05/2023 07:56

I just finished it-a bit late to the party but I loved it.

Love the music from that era and the costuming and sets were fantastic.

I have't read the book so I think easier to just watch this and take it as it comes. I will don my hard hat and say I liked the casting. Even Billy.

I thought Billy and Daisy had great chemistry.
Warren was fantastic-def just loving life.
I have watched some interviews post production and Riley, Suki and Camila come across as having a really nice relationship although I know they could be acting

And I also cried at the end
