Is it weird to say no game spoilers? I've not played the game so don't know the game story line

Who else is watching?

The 1st 2 episodes were really good

But wow. Ep 3 is amazing.

I actually cried over characters I'd known for less than 1 hour

That episode floored me. Not what I expected in a series about a fungi apocalypse. Absolutely beautiful.

No spoilers from the game please!

Hoppinggreen · 30/01/2023 22:09

We love it. Didn’t expect to and DH usually hates stuff like that but DD suggested we watch it .
Makes Mondays better

Newnamefor2021 · 30/01/2023 22:26

We have not seen three yet but enjoying it. It's very accurate to the game, according to DH.

BodGaoithe · 30/01/2023 22:26

What an amazing episode; I was in bits.

elderberryink · 30/01/2023 22:34

Have just had a low key argument with DH about that episode as he was disappointed by the lack of zombies. I was until this night unaware that I was married to a 14 year old boy.

Anyway, I thought it was one of the best single episodes of telly I've seen in ages. Overall it's an amazing adaptation of the game. Admittedly it's been ten years since I played it (a team effort with DH as I'm great at strategy but can't shoot straight especially when zombies are fecking sprinting at me) so I don't remember the finer details but the overall storyline and themes really strayed with me and this series really captures them whilst at the same time feeling very fresh.

Completely random but also, I'm so glad Armand from White Lotus got to grow old with someone 😂

elderberryink · 30/01/2023 22:35

*stayed not strayed. Really wish there was an edit button!

MotherOfHouseplants · 30/01/2023 22:52

What an incredible episode of television. I don’t think it’s a game spoiler to say that 90% of the development of Bill and Frank’s relationship from tonight’s episode is not in the game. They are presented very differently there.

I hope Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett have just bagged themselves an Emmy each.

Offleyhoo · 30/01/2023 22:54

Episode 3 was just fantastic, especially Nick Offerman. Don't know anything about the game.

Mushroo · 30/01/2023 22:59

Brilliant episode. I’ve never played the game and have no interest so I’ve come to the series completely cold.

The first two episodes were good, but episode 3
was incredible, really enjoyed it.

@elderberryink didnt even notice it was Armand! Good spot

RandomCatGenerator · 30/01/2023 23:02

@elderberryink ahhhhhh it was Armand! Great spot.

It was heartbreaking. Totally unprepared for that. I was expecting zombies, not a beautiful love story!

memoriesofamiga · 30/01/2023 23:08

I love the game to bits but I'm glad they're adding extra into the story now and it's not a straight game adaptation. It brings an extra element. Excellent tv.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 30/01/2023 23:14

Watched episode 3 today. I'm not a cryer usually but it got me. It was a very well done episode!

Snapespeare · 30/01/2023 23:16

It was a perfect episode- the diversion twist when we thought we would be following the woman and her baby on the evacuation truck and instead it turned into a beautiful poignant episode about love and caring for someone through little, meaningful gestures.

I have been single for three years. I believe I now need to wait for a mushroom based zombie apocalypse, dig a big hole outside my house and wait for a perfect man to fall into it (knowing my luck, he would - of course - also be gay and not eligible for romance, but we would cook some excellent dinners and play the piano together and paint and stuff, which is still a good outcome)

I’ve been waiting for a Last of Us thread! Just need to watch ep3 then I’ll be back.

ladydimitrescu · 30/01/2023 23:21

I'm still in pieces! What a masterpiece In television that was. Just stunning.

You'll need a box of tissues.

Gilead · 31/01/2023 03:45

Episode Three was one of the most beautiful pieces of television I’ve seen in my 64 years. I was in pieces!

brittanyfairies · 31/01/2023 05:42

How amazing was that episode? So beautifully acted and written.

Whenever I see Nick Offerman I always think of Parks & Recreations but this was a million miles from that.

My 18 year old DS watched it about 30 minutes after me and rang me in tears because he was so moved (and he's played the game).

Thank you whoever said it was Armand because it was bugging me the whole episode trying to work out where I had seen the actor before.

I've been waiting for a Last of Us thread since it started, so thank you.

MotherOfHouseplants · 31/01/2023 07:42

Funnily enough I had exactly the opposite thought - that it was a genius bit of casting as the first sequence was exactly how Ron Swanson would have approached an apocalypse. It seemed that he had been cast to type but then Frank arrived and Bill's character blossomed into something else entirely.

RandomCatGenerator · 31/01/2023 10:50

I was so worried Frank was taking advantage of Bill. Like he realised he was a closeted gay guy and thought, yeah, this is the way I can stay in this safe, beautiful compound with a piano and amazing food and wine. It was so lovely when you realise that they are really in love and stayed together until death.

Also:
”Who’s the girl?”
”There is no girl.”
”I know.”
❤️

GCSEstress · 31/01/2023 12:21

@RandomCatGenerator I was thinking the same, except I was worried he was actually going to kill Bill when he was playing the piano, so he could take his house.... but then the kiss and the tears in Franks eyes! 😢

Also, that 'last day together' scene broke me! The music they played is actually one of my favourite pieces- Max Richter, On the Nature of Daylight ❤ Beautiful.

Very clever how they made you feel so much for a couple in such a short space of time.

Botw1 · 31/01/2023 12:24

@GCSEstress

Yes, I felt that part was really tense

I was waiting for him to kill him

MyFlapsClap · 31/01/2023 13:37

It's SOOOOO good. One of the best things I've watched since Station 11 or Watchmen I think. Episode 3 had me properly sobbing. It's a total rollercoaster each episode!!

IClaudine · 31/01/2023 13:48

I keep thinking about this episode. It really was tremendously good. Can the rest of the series live up to it? I hope so.

Pemba · 31/01/2023 14:47

DH and me watched the first episode, as it had been hyped up so much in the media. We liked the first section set in 2003 when the disease started, and with the main guy's daughter Sarah. Disappointed to see Sarah get killed off, and everything else after the time jump seemed a bit dull. I don't know if we'll bother really. It seemed quite derivative, of The Walking Dead and of the film The Girl with All the Gifts (infected child restrained in a wheelchair, that bit was quite poignant actually). I remember back when The Walking Dead started, it was exciting right from the start (but I gave up on it eventually when Carl got killed off).

I understand this is based on a video game? It's a shame as there are some good actors in there, the guy that was Prince Oberyn (?) in GoT, Nick Offerman (?) from Parks and Rec, Anna Torv (not seen her since Fringe, which was brilliant). But it is not grabbing us, is there anything worth sticking it out for? I am thinking the popularity is mainly just because the game was popular?
