Have now watched episode 4 twice.

My DD1 and I watched on Monday night and turned to each other while TLR was legging it out the court and said 'James Bond'

It's been implied that TLR struck some kind of deal with the Knezevics, whereby he framed one of their rivals for a murder Darius had committed in exchange for them helping to spring him from court when he went on trial for his part in said murder. So far this deal hasn't cost them much; two goons starting a fight at the court and a bike in one of their puppet shops. I don't think they have designs on killing him, unless there's some massive twist such as a terminally-ill Nev paying them to set this up so he can get his hands on TLR and whack him. I don't think this will happen.

I’ve just had a thought, what if they are the ones who finally bump him off rather than it being Catherine or the police? Not as a favour for Catherine, obviously, but because that was the plan in the first place?

Perhaps the entirety of Happy Valley is one giant retcon 007 origin story. Rebooting the brand away from James Bond being an ex-Etonian Scottish laird to him being a deprived, disadvantaged Yorkshire criminal who says ''ow do' and ''appen.' Joyce is a talent-spotter for M. It's why she's so nosey.

“because Darius ordered his killing”. And that is why TLR starts the series with the forehead scar. But of course TLR doesn’t grass him up and instead gives the name “Chris Oxley”. So if Darius wanted TLR dead - why did he arrange for his get away vehicle and change of clothes and ordered Ivan and the other guy to make a disturbance at the court? Does Darius want him out so he can kill TLR? And why would Darius want to kill TLR ?

I haven’t fully worked this out, at all, but I’d assumed - given how proud he was of the scar - that the apparent attempt on his life in prison was all part of a set up, to give verisimilitude to everything that followed. Just like setting up the chaplain to snitch on his ‘confession’.

However , the idea of a good Yorkshire 007 is also a lovely idea too and played by JN

Yes, I think the attempt on TLR's life in prison was all just for show (rather than actually wanting to kill him) which is why we've seen TLR looking so proud of his scars. Maybe it was to make TLR look more of a credible witness to the Gary murder 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was suggested on a previous thread that he could have even done it to himself which is plausible given what a psycho he is.

TLR has been so quiet in episodes 1-4 definitely think we're in for some awful violence from him before the end. He has nothing to lose so he will go out all guns blazing.
