So much to fit into next weeks episode.

I wonder how much Poppy has witnessed before now and how much she will tell the police.

I think you have to bear in mind that although we have a week between episodes to process things, the series so far has only taken over the course of one week. Tonight Catherine said she had arrested Joanne a week ago.

In that amount of time, Catherine has found out about Ryan visiting TLR, followed and confronted her sister, kicked Ryan out, got Neil to agree no more visits, found out about the court date, a found out about the escape, heard that Ryan was in court, lost Ryan and then found him again. All while dealing with a missing person turned murder enquiry and getting head butted in the face during an arrest. I'm not surprised she's not forgiven and forgotten everything yet. She's probably not slept in god knows how long.

Ryan had shown Catherine his loyalty by taking and sending the pics of the stooges on the station platform.

Catherine must have known at that point that he could see clearly what TLR is.

No hug, even of relief, when he came safe to Nev’s?

Richard wasn’t showing love to Ryan: he put his career first when Ryan was begging him not to go out. Emphasised that Catherine had told him to stay with Ryan. Ryan was frightened.

Faisal / PE teacher link is because Faisal is under the control of the OCG now linked via Darius to TLR. It will be an ending of justice is done, but morally, not via the conventional CJS. PE teacher may well go daaaahn for the controlling violent psycho that he is, tho’ innocent of his wife’s death.

Maybe Faisal will give a lead to the OCG. Blaming them for forcing him to give drugs to the dead woman.

Busting TLR out just to have him sitting around a dingy room seems a bit of a waste of an episode.

Couldn’t disagree more! It was a phenomenal, counter-intuitive piece of writing. The most dangerous man in the North wrapped up in chintz, playing a crappy video game.

And that line about the gears on the bike being poetry! Just amazing to … humanise him like that. And the way he was there, tethered, and they made us stare at his beautiful face and shudder at the evil piled up in his head. It was properly, properly chilling.

I agree with a pp that it would have been better for Ryan to have been adopted as a baby in another area by a new family

I get that Catherine is at the end of her tether but I’m missing the wit and compassion that always provided some light relief in such tragic situations. But maybe that’s the point, there is none of that left with TLR on the loose again.

All the open stuff that isn’t directly TLR though:

• repeated mentions of the wedding
• Faisal’s drug dealing
• Faisal as murderer
• Neckbeard’s pattern of breaking then rescuing his students
• Rob’s news story on Darius

It’s hard to imagined how that all gets wrapped up in one episode!

Feels like so many loose ends to tie in the final episode! Obviously the Ryan - Catherine - TLR triangle. But also Poppy, neckbeard, Faisal, Darius.... doesn't seem feasible.

Catherine will always have my support. The fact that she's survived everything thrown at her and right now is behaving like a bitch on wheels to everyone around her makes total and utter sense to me.

Crazy theory which I don’t expect to happen but want to share it anyway.

TLR raped Joanna during his stint of freedom in 2014 and concieved Poppy. This is when Joanna’s diazepam addiction began (in this theory, I don’t believe we’ve been given a timeline on the show) as a way of coping. Neckbeard has known Poppy is TLR’s all this time hence the bullying of Ryan because he sees him as TLR. Neckbeard being the twat he is has allowed his anger about the attack on Joanna to manfiest as increasing his abuse toward Joanna and emotionally neglecting Poppy, acting like she doesn’t exist. TLR probably doesn’t know Poppy is his. Neckbeard will see TLR’s escape on the news and assume TLR did it.

Yes, I was expecting the Ryan and the PE teacher stuff to be more developed. Not necessarily grooming but just something more.

I think there was a lot of…this is going somewhere…and then it doesn’t. There have been not red herrings but I guess just as in life. Maybes and could have beens.

I don't think the cast has been great this season. The pharmacist and angry husband are particularly unconvincing.

I thought that PE teacher was going to offer a bed to Ryan (when Catherine kicked him out to go to Clare) - in line with Joanna’s comments about his pattern of bullying then rescuing. Then I thought Ryan was going to discover the body and get pulled in as a suspect - with everyone believing he was a chip off the old TLR block.

But didn’t the moors look beautiful? They make my soul sing.

I've always liked Catherine but I've also always thought that she's sacrificed so much for Ryan that he couldn't but be aware of a current of resentment running underneath her love; a resentment which often surfaces.

There was definitely the feeling of a scene missing in the rush this week. Wouldn't be surprised if it was filmed and cut due to time restraints. But we definitely should have seen how and when the discovery of Joanna's body was reported.

Fair enough, still wouldn’t be surprised by a twist about Poppy’s paternity though (to explain the tension between her and Neckbeard) and they will have to link this story to the main story at some point so why not through TLR? Even if the finer details are completely different, maybe he knows Poppy isn’t his but not the details.

As I said won’t happen but not completely out of the realms of possibility.

This with bells on! It’s like he is human. In my head I’m like I can see why Ryan would go with him.

I think the dynamic with Poppy is simply that she’s more obviously damaged by the DV and “weird” (the coat wearing) so more difficult for him to like and more rejecting of him. Wearing a coat all the time is an easy way of signalling, “fucked up child”. No other reason for her father to reject her.

As I said above - I think she may provide the Faisal / Joanna link from something previously observed.
