Just chiming in as someone from South-East Europe... the way they've researched/portrayed the Knezevic gang is so lazy - the language, the accents, and the cultural references are all over the place! No idea if they're supposed to be Romanian, Croatian, Serbian, Albanian... and then one of them has a weirdly Russian accent when attemptinga to speak Serbian/Croatian...!?

How hard can it be to get some local actors, or at the very least employ a consultant from the region to help them construct a more compelling narrative?

They did have one Croatian actress playing Ilinka in Season 2, but while she could speak Croatian, they gave her a typically Romanian name, which again makes no sense.

Just another instance of "oh well they're all Eastern European gangsters, doesn't really matter, let's just mash it all up."

For the record, I don't oppose having Eastern Europeans cast as gangsters - I think it's quite fun! lol. But if you're going to do it please get it right, it's 2023, you have the internet, there's no excuse.

I hate it because I otherwise love the show but the way they've done the Knezevices just takes out all the suspension of disbelief.

I noticed when trawling IMDb, that Winnie (old lady who took Ilinka in) is actually English but I'm sure I remember her speaking Croat? I confess I did not know it was Croat, but I believe was meant to be.

Agree on the accent fails for shows.

Ironically the worst right now is Alan Cummings’ on the Traitors. Mel Gibsons was better

I thought that! I'm not Scottish so thought I just be wrong, but it really jarred and seemed odd.

That Neil would get it ☝🏼

He'll still have that bear-hair chest tho 😱

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 28/01/2023 16:35

My DH was a lorry driver longtompotand he once had to use an Eaton twin splitter which had to be double de-clutched (double-clutched in the US) each time he changed gear, which he found very irritating. The system is meant to give smoother gear changes for heavy vehicles like lorries and tractors. I think you've got the theory right emotionalsupportviper DH found it stressful having to remember to do this and couldn't wait to get back to his regular lorry, though some drivers love them.

Faisal made heavy work of going to see Jo that time. Maybe he'll fall off the side ?

Faisal seems barely able to put one foot in front of the other at times. Annoyingly overdone.

Hairy chest but not Tommy

It's Neil

For some reason that doesn't work for me.

Sorry, Neil - no offence.

If it's any consolation I'm probably not your type either.

Isn't she Angela Pleasance? Donald Pleasance's daughter?

I was impressed with her, too - I don't know how accurate her pronunciation was but it certainly sounded very fluent,

Have had a horrible experience just a few minutes ago.

I was a day ahead of myself and was happily counting down the hours - then realised it was only Saturday.

Please hold me in your hearts, everyone. I feel lost and betrayed.

Oh viper. That is more distressing than the picture of beardy Neil upthread. #StayStrong Flowers <from t'allotment>

Catchphrase and the Masked Singer?

Emotionalsupportviper · 28/01/2023 17:39

Don't watch either of them

I'm consoling myself with a documentary on the Times Square Killer on Netflix.

I read an interview a few weeks ago - I think with an actor - and they said the last episode will leave viewers ‘reeling.’

I’m guessing this means a goody character will die?

Yes and she's 81

I'm baffled that we've got posters saying maybe Rob wasn't abusive, he was going to rape her. We saw it.
It's as dangerous as the idea that Tommy didn't really rape Becky.
I don't mean to sound snappy but please stop it. Just because it's TV doesn't mean there aren't women reading this who may be put off reporting a sexual assault

This. It's making me quite grumpy when people say "maybe SHE'S actually the bad one" when we've SEEN the abuse. It's misogyny.

Back in the day...

I’ve loved Con ONeill for bloody years, ever since he was in Brookside. He was brilliant as Pharoah in the early 1990s Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamboat (when Jason Donovan was Joseph for the first time). Also saw him doing a Pinter play. Very talented actor, and the fact that he can make himself so unattractive in Happy Valley is testament to that talent! Neil just looks like needs a bloody good wash.

Towntroubadour · 28/01/2023 19:45

@Inhibitor, very jealous you’re on screen. You live in a lovely part of the country.

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 20:16

Just watched Rogue Agent with JN
I can recommend it , was a nice way to spend two hours even though his another 'baddie ' in this too

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 20:24

@CuriousMama
I love Donald Pleasence, one of those old school British actors, can be both chilling and do comedy, his daughter was fantastic in HV. So WRT to the thread on Brooklyn Beckham earlier, some talented people have equally talented children……my case in point being of course Ashley Cowgill, (Joe Armstrong) son of the immensely talented Alun Armstrong, he definitely inherited those acting genes and has worked hard in his acting career.

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 20:25

@the80sweregreat
where can I see Rogue Agent please

Saucery · 28/01/2023 20:35

Having only decided to see what all the HV kerfuffle was about a mere 3 weeks ago, I am all caught up and dying to see how it all pans out!

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 20:39

@Saucery it doesn’t take long does it with only SIX 45 minute episodes per series, I’m used To double figures series like the US ones

having caught up with series 1 and 2, which one did you prefer? I think series 1 is flawless and will always be my personal favourite
