1 also, I think. I genuinely couldn’t move from my chair for a few minutes after the murder of Kirsten, with the bleep of the police radio instead of the theme music. TLR is less of a pantomime villain in it too. Just a regular soulless waste of air.
All of them are brilliant for a game of “What was she/he in?” Grin
I felt old enough when Con O’Neill rocked up as grimy, weak Neil, but the Detective questioning Rob in the latest episode was in one of the original Cracker series as a murderous teenager and it feels like I only watched that a few years ago Shock

@CuriousMama
I love Donald Pleasence, one of those old school British actors, can be both chilling and do comedy, his daughter was fantastic in HV. So WRT to the thread on Brooklyn Beckham earlier, some talented people have equally talented children……my case in point being of course Ashley Cowgill, (Joe Armstrong) son of the immensely talented Alun Armstrong, he definitely inherited those acting genes and has worked hard in his acting career.

I agree he was immense. I'm in my 50s but watched plays and films more suitable for older from being young. I don't mean sexual or graphic violence. Just mature. I saw little women at the theatre when I was 3. Mam and nana used to take me.

It was horrific. So chilling. And so sad about the last words Catherine said to her.

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 21:00

@CuriousMama
they really don’t make them like him anymore, he is in one of the best Columbo Episodes ‘Any Port In A Storm’ I also love Richard Burton….sorry to derail thread maybe we should have an ‘Old School Adorable British Actors’ thread would be interesting, buts lovely how threads can evolve 🥰

Inhibitor · 28/01/2023 21:00

Thanks @Towntroubadour, it is indeed a beautiful part of the country. I used to feel embarrassed of my Yorkshire accent but not now! It was literally just a couple of seconds (and I don’t even own that car anymore).

I happen to know that a scene that’s not yet been aired was filmed on a street that is a dead end with an amazing view of the hills at the bottom - would make a spectacular view for an end scene. I wonder if something happens to CC while trapped by the dead end? That’s my current theory.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/01/2023 21:04

Sally w does like using the same actors in her stuff

Just watching an old Scott and Bailey - written by Sally and guess who is in it

Kevin Doyle aka john the murdering detective in s2

Even though I had seen that twice I still think it was so shocking and heartbreaking, you just knew straight away that she was so out of her depth and had that sense of doom with that incidental music they have used throughout it’s so powerful, and the rescue of Catherine by Ann when Catherine was lying on the street and yes ‘regular soulless waste of air’ sums that up.

@Blondeshavemorefun
is Vicky in Scott and Doyle as their boss as well I think ?

the80sweregreat · 28/01/2023 21:06

The actors look so young and fresh faced
They are good little stories

Is that the one with the New Order theme tune ?

AutisticLegoLover · 28/01/2023 21:15

Scott and Bailey was brilliant. I binged that during the pandemic I think. Nicola walker is in it too. I feel she is typecast but she's amazing.

He'll always be Mr Molesley to me 😉

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 21:16

@Blondeshavemorefun
murdering mr beige detective John was really good at that ‘shitting himself’ expression wasn’t he ? great acting you could almost see his bowels ready to empty at times

<honks noisily into tissue>

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 21:18

@AutisticLegoLover
yes ! and I would put ‘Unforgotten’ in my slot below HV as the best British series ever made

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 21:21

@Blondeshavemorefun
scott and bailey - whoops sorry not Scott and Doyle (doyle is mr beige John murdering detective)

cant get over how in series 2 when he went back home thinking he was off the hook and was throwing schoolboy insults at his wife, he was so obviously feeling all empowered and took it out on her

Emotionalsupportviper · 28/01/2023 21:24

fairypeasant · 28/01/2023 19:19

This. It's making me quite grumpy when people say "maybe SHE'S actually the bad one" when we've SEEN the abuse. It's misogyny.

This is how abusers get away with it. People - women - make excuses for them.

"She isn't such a saint herself"
"If she hadn't done X"
"If he had done Y"
He has a lot to put up with"

Nope - bullies are bullies. they are responsible for their own behaviour. Stop blaming woman.

Agree about all of these actors. Timothy West and Prunella Scales' sons are fab actors, too - and I love Rory Kinnear, son of Roy.

TwoMonthsOff · 28/01/2023 21:35

@Emotionalsupportviper
Who is the son that played in the lord lucan thing? Think that may have been Timothy wests son? In which case totally agree he was brilliant
think he played lord lucan -it was a good drama

i tell you who I didn’t like much though was Richard Harris son Jared, he was in mad men, had absolutely zilch charisma and not that great an actor as well

just looked it up it was Rory Kinnear played lord lucan (Roy Kinnear was hilarious -sadly missed)
I think I need to watch that again

Rory Kinnear, I think. I have quite a crush on him Was watching him in "Bank of Dave" the other day. I loved it.

Today I got sick of Times Square murders and have watched cartoons instead - How to Train your Dragon, Sing, and am now watching the Dance Fight in Puss in Boots.

Good times. 😁

EsmaCannonball · 28/01/2023 21:43

I thought Kevin Doyle was brilliant as John Wadsworth. He really captured the tragi-comic pathetic-ness of the character. The funniest bit in Happy Valley is when he thinks he's got away with murder and is singing along to Don't Stop Me Now in his car.

Emotionalsupportviper · 28/01/2023 21:45

Rory Kinnear is an excellent Shakesperian actor too (I got the Hollow Crown history plays for Christmas a few years ago - can thoroughly recommend)
