I don't think the teacher is planning to groom the grandson. I think he was just happy with the Information that his dad was in prison to hold it over Catherine in case she meddles in his business with his wife. Hubby is also watching this never got that vibe. Its so nice to be able watch something we both like. We normally watch totally different genres of TV.

HRTQueen · 18/01/2023 10:03

The teachers wife Joanna has mentioned how he gets before he forms some sort of relationship with one of the pupils (always boys who have dysfunctional home life) that’s grooming he should only have a professional relationship with them

I think the teacher will end up in prison with Tommy but can’t work out why Neil is so involved unless he is just trying to get Ryan to love him as he misses his own children

I think Catherine’s love for Ryan is complex there is that hatred for Tommy and she sees Tommy in Ryan tied in with her guilt and grief I think in the end she will be tested and realise her love is unconditional

MetaDaughter · 18/01/2023 10:34

He already is! It was there for all to see, surely?

Emotionalsupportviper · 18/01/2023 10:37

Agree @MetaDaughter - I think grooming doesn't always have to be sexual. It can be a power kick, too. Neckbeard likes to be able to make or break/ and control these boys. It makes him feel powerful.

HRTQueen · 18/01/2023 10:50

it may not always be sexual but he is sexually very aggressive he was about to rape his wife in the first episode. And she mentioned that he gets this way when these relationships start and something along the lines of she didn’t know what they got up to

maybe Catherine will be thankful Tommy hurts or even kills the teacher in prison …

Can anyone tell me how the P.E teacher is able to afford the house they have on just his teachers wage? Big balconies at the back etc and only him working, seems odd 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also, is he a paedo then? Is that why he’s so angry and unhappy in his marriage etc?

I keep wondering that too, I'm in Yorkshire and that house would cost a good 600k maybe more.

Thewinterofillness · 18/01/2023 11:13

@storminabuttercup Exactly, seems strange as there’s no way a teacher could earn enough, unless he has a wealthy family etc 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah could inherited or anything I guess. I suppose they had to put them somewhere near the pharmacist to film the dodgy backs run. There's been no hint that it matters so suspect it's irrelevant that he has a big house

HRTQueen · 18/01/2023 11:20

There was a mention of him wearing expensive tracksuits and his wife wearing primark

his car is expensive too I think there probably is something about their wealth as it’s being made obvious and that he likes golf/going to the gym

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2023 11:23

The teacher may have inherited that house ?
Car might be on lease / credit
Joanne might have worked pre children or had some money left to her , or takes in ironing ?
So many reasons they seem better off!
Plus houses are much cheaper in certain parts of the UK too, might have been a 'doer upper 'originally ?
( or maybe it was Just the perfect place to film everything and could be rented for filming purposes without too much hassle )

the80sweregreat · 18/01/2023 11:24

I'd say his the one with the money rather than her though. Or she had to hand it all over to him when they had the girls

Thewinterofillness · 18/01/2023 11:48

Yes, I don’t think she had any money as she would have left him

rosegoldwatcher · 18/01/2023 12:19

@HRTQueen "I think the teacher will end up in prison with Tommy but can’t work out why Neil is so involved unless he is just trying to get Ryan to love him as he misses his own children."

Last night I read a few reviews of HV and one of them said that the shop that Neil works in is involved in money laundering. So might Neil be being pressured/threatened by the Kneževićs via his boss?

storminabuttercup · 18/01/2023 12:21

I thought about Neil being threatened but it's only in this series that Tommy covered for them and they've been visiting for a year

HannaHat · 18/01/2023 13:02

Bit of a weird way to describe a 16 year old boy 🤔

?

JaneJeffer · 18/01/2023 13:09

Maybe nothing will happen
Yeah not worth watching the rest really

colourmebladd · 18/01/2023 13:15

Nev Gallagher (George Costigan) played Bob in Rita, Sue and Bob Too back in the 1980's.

Oh my goodness! Loved that film way back when and knew SF was Rita but had not realised Nev was Bob.

I wonder if he'll ask Catherine if she fancies a jump? Grin

PrincessScarlett · 18/01/2023 13:18

Maybe teacher Rob has a little side earner going on which is where he gets his money from.

Agree that grooming isn't just sexual. Maybe he's grooming vulnerable kids for the drugs gang. County lines is a huge problem at the moment and fits in with Happy Valleys ongoing drugs problem.

That's really weird! Ryan has been friends with him from the beginning too

CorporateBull · 18/01/2023 13:27

George Costigan played Adrian Mole’s dad. I love him and his roles.

I think Catherine is meant to be flawed. And we’ve known since series 1 that she struggles with parenting Ryan. I don’t think she always does make the best decisions, and that’s a key part of her character.

I agree that we’re not likely to see lots of twists. It’s not the style of Happy Valley. We tend to know what’s happening before the characters if anything.

And he shagged Claire back in the 80s!

This is an interesting theory. I can’t quite see the teacher being involved in drug dealing, but who know. Maybe that would explain the house, car, flash clothes etc?

Someone needs to unlock that fridge
