@Emotionalsupportviper - didn't Catherine say yesterday that Claire has since told him everything?

Oh - I must have missed that. Will have to re-watch (a third time). Awful job, but I'm willing to take one for the team. 😁

Bearchugg · 17/01/2023 08:34

I didn't watch it when it originally aired but I binged the first 2 series in a few days, love it! I'm not finding this series quite as good yet, but not sure if it's because having to wait a week between episodes so some of the build up and suspence is lost?

I'm enjoying all of the theories, I do think her sisters boyfriend is a bit dodgy but not sure in what regard yet. The storyline of the PE teacher and his wife doesn't seem clear what the connection is to the main story, I reckon he will be put in prison for her murder though then something will come out about his relationship with Ryan and TLR will find out?

Just know the finale will be epic though.

Think it's the new Bradford station?

A poster from the area saw that the original police station has been sold off, and this filming takes place in the local swimming baths.

Or meets this woman

My word!

That's a scary lady -there's a dinner woman at newcastle Uni refectory like that.

What prompted the outburst above? Had the walkers gone onto her land, damaged crops or something? I've had a quick search but can't find it (but I'm not very "tech-y".

Emotionalsupportviper · 17/01/2023 09:10

Is Ok - I found it - disagreement over the price of a cup of tea (but not straightforward).

Nepalese lady's side is here.

Emotionalsupportviper · 17/01/2023 09:11

Whoops!

Sorry - no more derail.

Frankly, i'm on the Nepalese lady's side, even if she's exaggerated the tale because I think the British woman was a tight *rse.

As you were, back to the valley.

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2023 09:23

Ryan had told TLR about Mr Hepworth hasn't he? Interesting theory about him ending up in Sheffield too

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2023 09:43

Yes Tony in shameless

Was also in being human

WinnieFosterReads · 17/01/2023 09:59

I don't think Catherine will die. Sally Wainwright tries to reverse tropes so her women are strong; the men are weak; the usually overlooked older women are the main characters etc. It would be too 'traditional' to kill her - hopefully! 🤞
But statistically Ryan's outcomes wouldn't be good. iirc he has a mum who took drugs and killed herself; two recovering alcoholics as role models and a dad who is a murderer and rapist, and in prison. And although Catherine loves him, she isn't around much and she's not been able to counter any of TLR's manipulations for the last 18 months. Ryan is so vulnerable and that makes me scared for him. Although can I just add I love his friend. Their conversations were so realistic 😃

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2023 10:04

Cesco was interrupting all the time !..
He seemed a good little actor
It was funny when Catherine said ' he doesn't normally give a toss about homework !'
Although Cesco mentioned GCSE's , so they are both switched on about all that.

I think TLR has rewritten in his mind, maybe during his first stint in HMP, his relationship with Becky. He has probably forgotten all the bad things he thought she did which he would feel would have provoked his anger towards her and his treatment of her, which is why he doesn't feel he has raped her and the relationship was consensual.
I think he loves Ryan whilst Ryan is doing and saying the right things. As soon as Ryan starts to think for himself and say or do anything TLR doesn't like, he will switch. The psychopath is only just below the surface.
I'm not sure about Neil being TLRs dad. I think he is afraid of him, and I'm not sure he is working for any drug gangs, but could be wrong.
I didn't understand why Catherine didn't say anything about the silver car going round the block several times.
Not sure if Joyce is a bad 'un or just being nosey.
I think they will know it was Pfizer who gave Jo (poor Jo, I so wanted her to have a happy ending with her girls) the meds as there will be a batch number on the packet which will show it came from his pharmacy. Plus she has the packet in her pocket, unless he removes it after injecting her with air. Neckbeard will rewrite history about how he loved her etc but the girls will give things away without realising, especially the youngest. I hope they do.
TLR will escape from the court with the help of the drugs gang, or by having Ryan there, they will abduct him.

VivaDixie · 17/01/2023 11:58

Ow do

I have just read 25 pages of this thread - I had to completely hide away from all social media yesterday as me and DH watched it on iplayer last night. This is how invested we all are!!

I am hoping - and this sounds terrible - but a pp said above that SW tends to reverse tropes and write the women as strong. If Jo dies then is that her 'woman' thus saving Catherine? I do hope so. I hope neckbeard doesnt fool social services that he is a good un and gets to keep the girls, I want them to go to a lovely foster family who will nurture them.

Poor Ryan @WinnieFosterReads when you put it like that the poor lad hasn't a chance.

It is breaking me how Catherine is treating Ryan, I have a teenage DS and when he says he loves me I make a point of giving him a big hug and an 'I love you' back.

If the real police every struggle with a whodunit mystery they should just post the case files here in telly addicts. Mumsnetters would have it solved in ten minutes.

The Mumsnet Marples!

How can neckbeard have such a nice house - always told teachers don't earn much.

Plus agree possible grooming - he literally lit up when he heard Ryan's dad was in prison.

Its Yorkshire. We own a house similar to Catherines... worth about £160k I believe now.

New build 3 bed is about £240k.

TitsInAbsentia · 17/01/2023 12:29

I really need to leave London 😂

I don't think it'll come out that TLR didn't rape Becky, how can it? Becky must have told Catherine he did and there's no proving otherwise. I think he probably did love her, or think he did, in the same way neck beard will say he loved Jo and all other violent abusive men say their love the partners they beat and rape.

Exactly this. TLR battered his mother but also grieved when she died.

We know he's capable of rape and capable of denying it, like he did in series 2 when he said he'd been "fitted up" and that Lewis had done all the bad stuff.

The fact that Becky killed herself after having Ryan makes me believe that he did rape her and that she was traumatised-- but that's not to say that he saw it that way. Look at the court cases where men are acquitted of rape because they say the woman enjoyed rough sex, even if she dies in the process. TLR's truth is whatever he wants it to be.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/01/2023 23:48

Did anyone else notice the doll on the table with it's head and face spattered in red paint? Those daughters are going to tell the police about daddy beating up mummy and he'll be banged up when TLR is transferred to the same place.

Unrelated but annoying point: there is no way that syringe was anywhere near large enough to administer a fatal air embolus, even assuming Faisal was able to competently administer an intravenous or intra-areterial injection, which I think is outwith the skillset of most pharmacists.

BoreOfWhabylon thank you, you've answered what I was wondering - wouldn't you need quite a lot of air injected to kill someone? I was just thinking about people on drips in hospital, they go into veins (do they?) and they must get air bubbles in sometimes, and people aren't dying of it all the time? Or at least from what I've seen on hospital TV programmes!

StellaAndCrow · 17/01/2023 15:06

I can't think even what I would like the ending to be. What would be a "good" ending? Is there a way that it turns out well for Catherine and the baddies get their comeuppance?
Although TLR is a nasty murdering psychopath, getting him out of the way does nothing about the main problem of drugs in the valley, and the corruption that supports it happening. Is there any way that any of the high-ups get taken down?

StellaAndCrow · 17/01/2023 15:12

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2023 01:20

Jesus it takes me longer to catch up with the thread than to watch the programme Grin

And I still maintain that there's something dodgy about Richard!

I agree. His body language was off when he was talking to Catherine and the way he said "I'm sorry". So here's my new outlandish theory:

What if Richard is TLR's dad and Becky only found this out after she had the baby possibly from Tommy's off her tits mother and couldn't cope with the knowledge of that?

Yes, when Richard said "I'm sorry", I thought he was going to reveal that he'd known all along about Claire and thingy taking Ryan to see TLR. It looked like Catherine maybe though that too.

MetaDaughter · 17/01/2023 15:19

Yes, Richard’s little speech was very cunningly written - I was holding my breath, too.

midsomermurderess · 17/01/2023 15:27

I don’t think that Richard, or someone like him, would have had a life that would have intersected with TLR’s mother. She was a shambolic, casual sex-working addict. Unless he had a paid encounter with her, their lives would never have crossed.

I think it'll just end with the inevitable showdown, Royce will come a cropper and our Ryan will see he was a bad 'un all along.

Catherine will drive off into the sunset after forgiving wet Claire, while another plot emerges of gangs and drugs proving it's a vicious cycle that will not end. We can only hope grubby Neil isn't given any speaking scenes, let's hope he is left to fester in his one bedder.
