Can you imagine going on an outward bound course with Faisal?

Back when Corrie was watchable, Sarah Lancashire was brilliant as the equally brilliant Raquel. Her feature episode of Clocking Off is also one of my favourite episodes of that series (second only to the one where Lesley Sharpe's character has a boob job). It's on iPlayer at the moment.

There has to be a point to Ryan attending court in Leeds. TLR has done a deal with the OCG; lie to the police about the gangland murder in exchange for being sprung from court. He tries to take Ryan with him, and either Neil or Richard gets killed trying to intervene?

There also has to be some kind of point to Ryan's connection with the horrible PE teacher. Things don't look good for horrible PE teacher, but surely time of death and other forensics will eventually exonerate him? I can't help but think he or the pharmacist will die and Ryan and TLR will somehow be mixed up in it.

Time of death isn't easy to calculate, and a post-mortem is unlikely to reveal the site of a tiny hypodermic pinprick, especially if Pfizer puts it (say) in between fingers, or where she's badly bruised. Things like that tend to be missed unless the pathologist is looking for them - and this is not to denigrate pathologists, but if you have a victim who has received serious head wounds, and then they suffer a stroke as a consequence (which I think this would probably look like), they're unlikely to do a minute body search for an injections site.

I don't know if Neckbeard will end up getting charged, but he's going to have a lt of questions to answer - the girl is black and blue, Catherine knows he's domestic tyrant, his children will tell the police that "Daddy doesn't like Mummy" . . . maybe he'll be remanded. Maybe TLR will find out about it and he'll be got at.

Have to say - am neither doctor nor lawyer so am making this up as I go along . . . a little knowledge. . . dangerous thing . . . blah blah

I’m another who found the Shrine podcast a complete waste of time. A good ten minutes of pointless chat - then an interminable recap that was less useful than my own eyes and ears.

(But I hate most podcasts, so …)

Sorry that should have been for @DashingWhiteSergeant and @WouldJudasLeaveIt

Ahhhh!

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 15:23

Why was Joyce interested in the lab results for the pills when she was in Catherine's office?

That aught my attention, too - and I also couldn't;t believe that Catherine didn't close down the page and log out, no matter how much of a hurry she was in. The way she threw her glasses on the desk . . . does this mean that she misreads that licence plate later and goes off down the wrong track?

Faisal cant walk in a straight line without falling over, will he able to finish her off

I hadn't twigged how close together they lived

I think Faisal may become a bit more than a hapless pawn before the end of the series. He's been low-key running a drugs business that has begun to encroach on the Knezovic's, and managed to attract enough attention that they worked out it was him.

They just lost a massive amount of money and one of their safe houses when the woman jumped out the window, as well as the lad who was arrested. They're going to be keen to make up for their losses, and I think they will force him to work for them.

He's been low-key running a drugs business that has begun to encroach on the Knezovic's, and managed to attract enough attention that they worked out it was him.

I suspect that those two thugs were dealing in a bit of "private enterprise" with Pfizer, and that they will be just as keen as he is to keep that bit of information away from the OCG bosses.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/01/2023 15:33

I wonder if Faisal is taking drugs himself tbh, but I think his stumbling down the footpath was just to show his desperation/stress.

Did anyone else notice the doll on the table with it's head and face spattered in red paint? Those daughters are going to tell the police about daddy beating up mummy and he'll be banged up when TLR is transferred to the same place.

Unrelated but annoying point: there is no way that syringe was anywhere near large enough to administer a fatal air embolus, even assuming Faisal was able to competently administer an intravenous or intra-areterial injection, which I think is outwith the skillset of most pharmacists.

YES!

I thought it very poignant and symbolic.

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 15:34

(sorry - the doll bit(

@Emotionalsupportviper I was just saying this about both Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran, it's so refreshing to see women in their mid/late fifties who haven't got a face full of fillers and obviously aren't pumped full of Botox.

Isn't it just!

I love Siobhan, too. (And her complexion is fabulous!)

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 08:43

Yeah a ginnel is a passageway between buildings, so a row of shops could have a ginnel behind them, it doesn't just have to be houses.
The bit in Happy Valley where Faisal walked I'd refer to as "going down t'back of t'houses"

"going down t'back of t'houses"

<adds to 'Tyke - Geordie' phrasebook>

I'm surprised that anyone would
think TLR could have some sort of redemption story. That's absolutely not how I'd write it if I was Sally Wainwright. Think about it. He's raped two women,
killed several people and put Catherine in hospital for several weeks where she nearly died and had to have her spleen removed.
He's irredeemable and the only reason he can play the loving Dad is because he's behind bars and not doing (or ever will do) any actual parenting. He got bored of Ryan quickly on the barge. In real life, he'd
have zero time for Ryan. I think he also loves how much it angers Catherine.

I agree - he lights up when he sees Ryan because Ryan is the key to avenging himself on Catherine. I this he has a strong sense of "ownership" if Ryan - and if he can't have a relationship (on his own twisted terms) with him, then he'll destroy him to prevent anyone else doing so.

'I was just saying this about both Sarah Lancashire and Siobhan Finneran, it's so refreshing to see women in their mid/late fifties who haven't got a face full of fillers and obviously aren't pumped full of Botox.'

So true. They both look their age AND are gorgeous at the same time

That's a 5 isn't it?

Omg. Yes

Brain is obv thick with painkillers lol

TrentCrimm · 16/01/2023 16:03

Interesting that other people also thought Ann looked different. I wondered if Charlie Murphy has had her nose 'fixed' a little bit (not that anything was wrong with her nose btw!)

MetaDaughter · 16/01/2023 13:01

D’you think they’ll get through the full ceremony? I’m happily anticipating quite spectacular carnage - gangs and police racing to the venue, laden with weapons …

That's your average wedding celebration round here 😂

Coffeecreme · 16/01/2023 16:09

why did Nevis daughter touch the cup?
was she wiping fingerprints?
or checking it was a hot drink?

is she married to Catherine's son?

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 16:11

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2023 13:15

Ah but @LadyEloise1 we live in Ireland

The "Nosey Neighbourhood Watch" is alive and well in the North East, too!

midsomermurderess · 16/01/2023 16:13

@Coffeecreme She was checking to see if the cup was warm or cold. If warm, they were likely not far away.

UrsulaPandress · 16/01/2023 16:15

A proper ginnel

I found it really odd that the horrible PE teacher was controlling enough to keep everything locked up but his wife was just able to stand on a stool to access the keys.

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2023 16:52

Maybe the key holder was put up high out the way of the children rather than her ?

LavenderHillMob · 16/01/2023 16:58

I've known an accidental death from an unprimed IV line. Less than 5mls of air & definitely into a vein, not an artery.

You can refill syringes. The size of syringe doesn't have to be the same as the volume of air.

Many pharmacists do vaccines and more are offering phlebotomy. Especially those wanting to grow their business.

I don't mind if Catherine changes her mind about her trip as long as she doesn't die.

I think Ryan may kill TLR.

EsmaCannonball · 16/01/2023 17:03

I, too, don't like the idea of TLR having a redemption arc. I think Sally Wainwright is wary of the handsome psychopath or murderer trope. Despite making TLR crude and vicious and basically loutish in series one, there was still a lot of talk of him being hot and sexy. I half-suspected the teaching assistant storyline in series two was an attempt to show how pathetic it is to become attracted to men like him or to think that by loving them you will bring out the humanity that only you are somehow able to see. I think he's going to do something awful and then end up dead.

Rhondaa · 16/01/2023 17:13

'think he's going to do something awful and then end up dead.'

He will. He'll end up with our Ryan hostage, Catherine will happen upon his hiding place as she seems to have a sixth sense for like Lynn's basement.

Who will kill whom though is the question? I think Ryan will rescue Catherine and kill Royce. Then they'll both go to the himalayas <why the himalayas > and hopefully grubby Neil will not get a scene in any remaining episodes.
