I think TLR is using Ryan. I think his hatred/obsession with Catherine overrides any love he has for Ryan.
I think the end will be Catherine potentially sacrificing herself for Ryan.

Catherine is going to die isn’t she 😩 argh I really hope that isn’t how it ends!

I don’t think TLR is using Ryan. That was the only bit of real happiness and love we’ve ever seen in TLRs eyes, when Ryan came to visit him. I can’t help but feel for TLR, as much as what he has done is just horrendous and vile. With a smackhead mother and abusive childhood, he didn’t stand a chance.

I'm so glad someone else feels the same!

I haven't seen the first two series since they were shown but I'm sure I remember an implication that TLR believed he was in a loving relationship with CCs daughter (whatever that means to him), and he said something like 'A boy needs his dad' in relation to both himself and Ryan. Which I found a teeny bit heartbreaking. One of the strengths of the show is the grey areas and the unreliability of other humans.

They seem to be going all out with the 'complete psychopath' line this series when there were glimpses of something else before..

It was Ryan who said “Revenge is a dish best served cold” in episode 2. Twice.

I hope he is developing a secret slow burning plan to get his revenge on TLR for what TLR has done to his mother, his granny, himself (the petrol) and his almost-Aunt Anne.

Yes i hope this too

Rhondaa · 16/01/2023 10:04

'I stand by the fact that I don’t think TLR is using Our Ryan. I do believe it’s the only bit of love and hope he has in his life.'

I agree. Even before he'd had much to do with Catherine he sort Ryan out, hanging around the school etc. So yes while he obviously isn't a good man I do think his feelings for Ryan are genuine, maybe an unhealthy obsession.

Ryan is just so easily manipulated. He so quickly confided in the pe teacher who has bullied him for months, it isn't hard to see he may have believed Royce's stories and excuses.

As an aside what is Catherine planning on doing in the Himalayas she seems to get out of puff at any exertion.

I think it’s something Sally Wainwright does so well. Just touches on TLRs past here and there. Offers up little bits of info as to how shit his childhood likely was - one of the CID team telling CC that no one knows who Tommys Dad is for instance. You just know he was probably conceived out of a shitty moment where Lynn needed a fiver for a bag of heroin. HV touches on the complexities of human life, human emotion, how people end up at the point they’ve got to. When Lynn told Tommy in series one that Becky was dead, you could see he was hurt by that. I’m not sure he raped Becky. I do think he loved her in his own way. None of this takes away from the awful crimes he’s committed of course.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 16/01/2023 10:14

I did also wonder whether TLR would sacrifice himself for Ryan. Not sure how that would play out though.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/01/2023 10:24

I stand by the fact that I don’t think TLR is using Our Ryan. I do believe it’s the only bit of love and hope he has in his life.

I'm inclined to think this might be the case too.

I now think that the series will end with Catherine forgiving TLR, possibly as he lies dying.

foxlover47 · 16/01/2023 11:00

I do really think Tommy genuinely wants his relationship with Ryan , like I said last night. He lights up when he's chatting to him and their interaction about the skydiving was so flowing and genuine between them both.
Catherine has been really cold to Ryan this series so far . He's told her he loves her a few times and she never responded ... I see Ryan as a lad who probably does need a bit more love in his life .. he gets that from Claire and I think Neil
Cares for him a lot too.
The alien form to fill In was hilarious

amaryllis134 · 16/01/2023 11:01

I'm surprised that anyone would
think TLR could have some sort of redemption story. That's absolutely not how I'd write it if I was Sally Wainwright. Think about it. He's raped two women,
killed several people and put Catherine in hospital for several weeks where she nearly died and had to have her spleen removed.
He's irredeemable and the only reason he can play the loving Dad is because he's behind bars and not doing (or ever will do) any actual parenting. He got bored of Ryan quickly on the barge. In real life, he'd
have zero time for Ryan. I think he also loves how much it angers Catherine.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 16/01/2023 11:11

I don't think there will be a redemption for TLR. He injected Ann with heroin and was going to rape her again before killing her, aside from the other horrible things he did.
Catherine would never forgive him because she knows he's not and won't be sorry.
It would be a bit daft imho to make someone we know is a rapist to actually not have raped Becky and for theirs to be a love story.

WandaWonder · 16/01/2023 11:13

This is bloke that deliberately ran over and killed a police officer in series 1? Amongst the other things?

Threadkillacilla · 16/01/2023 11:19

Tommy just uses Ryan to feed his obsession against Catherine. Remember when the knesovich goon offered Pfizer to sort out his problems with Jo and the cops? The mole must be reliable.

Mintyt · 16/01/2023 11:21

I think that woman who came into Catherine's office while she had the drugs out has taken them, as they were not on the desk after Catherine walk led out and back in and the envelope she wrote on was flat

LindorDoubleChoc · 16/01/2023 11:25

Interesting theories about Joyce on this thread - loving it!

Pretty sure Catherine put them in a drawer.
I don't think that lady (Joyce?) is dodgy, I think that characters there for Catherine to bounce off or take her temper out on. She's known Catherine a long time

Catherine puts the drugs away in the drawer then copies the phone number on to her hand - after the other woman leaves the room

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/01/2023 11:39

Ryan will choose between Catherine and TLR in some way. I firmly believe good will triumph over evil and it will show however awful the start of Ryan's life was, his upbringing by someone who loved and cared for him will be the key to his decision.

The person who suggested a siege at Ann and Dan's could well be right. I think Ann will get an opportunity to get revenge of some sort on TLR.

MetaDaughter · 16/01/2023 11:52

Pure speculation, but I’ve been trying to decipher the clues in the main publicity photo. (Surely no one can consider this any type of spoiler?) There’s a building that might be the scummy block of flats, but could equally be somewhere we haven’t seen yet. And there’s an isolated house - which doesn’t look like Ann and Daniel’s house but might represent it. And somewhere / something burning in a significant manner …

UrsulaPandress · 16/01/2023 12:04

I’m sure I recognised Ann’s house. Maybe it was used in Last Tango.

Wingedharpy · 16/01/2023 12:05

I think Faisal will commit suicide.
He's not a natural murderer- whatever that is.
He's a man on the brink, struggling to keep up with his more affluent relatives and the increasing demands for things from his wife (she wants expensive decking) and kids.
He's probably up to his eyeballs in debt.

We've seen him be all lovely to Ryan before and then attempt to burn him to death so I'm not getting the warm cosies.

Emotionalsupportviper · 16/01/2023 12:29

Funny she tried to pull his trousers off

I don't think she pulled them off as such - I think she just rugby tackled him and they were loose around the waits and came down as she grabbed his legs.

Mintyt · 16/01/2023 12:32

@JaneJeffer I think the bag was empty

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2023 12:33

I don't think that lady (Joyce?) is dodgy,
That information definitely means something to her going by her face when she saw the screen.
